Great video. I love how you kept it to 5 minuets and still did great on explaining each item and why you take it. Hope you had a great time

We did that loop few months ago. Yeah, you've got pretty much everything you need.

Eagle Rock Loop is a great hike--arguably one of the best hikes within a reasonable driving distance from Dallas / Houston. I've done it twice, and did a post-hike gear review a couple years back. Have fun!

Thanks! And thanks for watching! This was our second trip as well. Such a great hike and we had a fantastic time. The first time we went in winter; completely different experience this time around.

Hi, I'm planning on making this hike. So in this case you need a big backpack right? my 35 litter won't cut it, I would expect. Do you have to ration your food, h2o, and stuff as well?. What about bathrooms? do you also have to take something like a portable one or are there toilets along the trail? If you could give me a list of the essential stuff and tips I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

19 lbs isn't bad at all. I'm used to 45lbs minimal rucks (overkill I know) will be doing this loop in March for spring break. Thanks for the tips!

ERL, you are never far from a road and most have decent enough traffic even on a slow day. With that in mind, I would seriously cut down the first aid kit. How many minor cuts are you going to slap a bandaid on during a rainy wet trip with all those water crossings? Zero! Bring some ibuprofen some gauze pads, a sterile combine pad, and small roll of self adherent wrap for a serious injury. That is all the first aid you need. Should something serious happen, you can patch yourself as best as you can bail quickly enough. Anything like bandaids and stuff for small wounds won't get used. If you get a decent sized cut but plan to continue, use gauze and duct tape from your repair kit. Happy hiking!

That's good feedback, thanks for the comment. My first aid kit is always one of those things where halfway through the trip I'm asking myself why I brought all of this stuff, but when I go to pack up for my next trip I inevitably throw the same kit in I used before. I always justify it by saying it's only a couple of ounces extra, but I would pay a bunch of money to cut those ounces through some lighter weight fabric or some other nonsense so it defies logic. You're definitely right. Thanks for watching!

Is the in reach needed out there? Or do you get a cell signal?
@TheDataDispatch
@TheDataDispatch 6 жыл бұрын
Not much of a cell signal at all. Crossing over the ridges on the west side I think we picked up a signal on a couple of them, but that's about all that I can remember getting.

TheDataDispatch ok. It's like that for us in other parts of the Ouachita Forest too. As long as I am.capable.of getting some.kind of brief service on a summit somewhere. Lol. We are planning a hike through it. I've got detailed maps and a Suunto mc2g compass but no locator beacon. I have just been reading some people say the trail gets indistinguishable at some points.
