I like the fact Alex doesn't distort his signal . His good clean sound really helps to enhance his sound .
@chrishampton19813 жыл бұрын
Absolutely and it inspired me to do the same thing when I upgraded my bass rig this year. Created a 4 stompbox pedalboard going tuner to clean preamp to compressor and overdrive and using additional distortion and compression from the bass head to make the sound more aggressive and sit better in the overall mix next to the guitars and triggered bass drum sound of my band

I mean, it just makes sense, since the guitars are already distorted - otherwise you'd just add more fuzz and end up with a frequency salad. A bass is made for low end and that way it just does that, without making everything muddy... I suspect it kind of would, if it weren't a little "gnarly" in the low end - so it still shines through (just like he said)
@imtiaz3 Жыл бұрын
Yea it's a unique and interesting use of the B7K and even more when he had the B3K. It's an overdrive pedal with distortion but he dials it in such a way that he gets the aggressive attack but no fuzz or distortion. It I find it sits way better in the mix than going more crazy with the OD effects. It's inspired me to setup my darkglass pedals in a similar way where when engaged, nothign is fuzzy but it's articulate, especially with my 2 other guitar players. The B7K gives him alot of options, but also to avoid getting the fuzziness, when he had the B3K, I recall him saying he'd go into a compressor, and use that to lower the signal so he wouldn't get too much distortion from the B3k. Once again, very unique use. It's also funny how his B7K has his blend setting set at 100% wet and no clean signal. Very counter intuitive and it's what I can only describe as a clean OD metal tone, which is a contradictory name.

I think it's definately a good rig he's using, having those those two direct signals going to the board, seems to me like a very good option for the sound guy to tweak his sound and make sure he cuts through the mix. Let's be honest, mic'ing up a cab alone can be limiting to sit you in the mix.
@TheStarshipBand4 жыл бұрын
It's interesting that he goes from the Bassbone preamp into the Darkglass. He did that when he was still using the old B3k too. I have the B3k and I've always plugged my bass into it then going from the pedal to the preamp stage of my Little Mark II and then to a Mooer Radar cab simulator (not using a real cabinet). Apart from lowering the volume before hitting the pedal as he says, are there any tonal differences going bass > Preamp > darkglass vs. the more typical bass >pedal > preamp? is that a signal chain that could/would work with other pedals as well (e.g. envelope filters, chorus, flanger ecc.)?
