Wasn't born yet but this has to be the golden age of drag racing. No BS just balls out racing.

As an old C/Gas, B/MP and B/Altered (and later, Pro Stock) racer from the 70"s, this is tonic for my heart. Back then, competitive racing was available to anyone and was a helluva lot more fun!

Dang it CPTV.....how the hell you expect a guy to get any work done in the shop, when you keep posting videos like this one??? I mean really....considering my first drag race attended was in 1964, Irwindale Raceway, in So Cal. Love the nitro, especially AA/FA's, but a huge part of "The Show" was the larger contingent of Sportsman racers. Just in the first few minutes of film....ALL those names were familiar to me. I've mostly spent my racing time in the Sportsman ranks, a fact I'm proud of to this day. Thank you so very much, for honoring these classes, racers and families, by putting together this film for all to enjoy ✌😎

Whenever I go to a drag race I spend most of my time in the sportsman pits. The pro cars are all the same. It's the sportsman classes that have the interesting variety of machinery.

I miss those great days of racing! I went to the US NATIONALS for many years, the first was either '70 or '71. Watching some of the greatest legends of drag racing, far too many to count that are no longer with us! Being a Ford fan for over 50 years, I remember the joy it brought me,to see them win! From the stockers all the way to later on,the Ford powered FC & TF! "Ohio" George, Jim Waldo, Jim? Van Cleve,Bruce,Kurt Neighbors. I think his last name was Williams & his 6 cylinder altered! Last but certainly not least, the greats of P/S,"Dyno" Glidden, "Grumpy", Sox & so many others! Damn I miss them so much!

First year at Indy was 1963. I still have a $2 pit pass from that first year. After the gas coupe & sedan classes came modified eliminator, which I greatly miss to this day, and I’m 79 years old! Never will NHRA top that old modified production class! Never ever!!

@nashvillecop1 I was 10 in '63. At 17 was my first, so '70 was my first of many years attending this great race.

@ 27:30, I sure do miss 330-foot under power Alcohol Funny Car burnouts! With today's clutch setups and tire compounds, I understand why those are no longer necessary but, I still miss it!!!

Great video. First I've ever seen with pro comp in action. Great driving job by Jeg at 9:54. Those things were mad dangerous back then weren't they? Mad fun to watch too.

Awesome video before computers ruined drag racing. Sportsman racing class racing at its peak here. Modified is still by far the best class in drag racing. Nothing like high winding small block Corvettes and Camaros
