"Port wine" is from Porto, Portugal originally named "vinho do Porto" and just someone poorly translated it to Port wine instead of Porto wine 😅 Also they are usually a bit more expensive as they have 20% of alcohol (instead of around 12% as in normal wine) and the process of making it is a bit more complicated. Edit: being a smartass I wrote it wrong. It of course should be "vinho do Porto" not "vinho Porto". And actually a translation "wine from Porto" or maybe even "Porto's wine" make it even more understandable 🤔

So the poached eggs, for anyone who wants to know the easiest method! stop spinning the water! You wanna bring it up to a SIMMER! not bubbling away violently cause that will seperate the eggs. I usually bring up to a boil and then lower the temp to a simmer so I know it's gonna stay that way. Add vinegar to the water. That binds the eggs without needing the tornado. User as fresh eggs as you can and at room temperature

Continue befriending him at Whole Foods, as you mentioned, then maybe try finding a restaurant that serves some of the cool food you are asking him about and just casually saying, "Hey, I found this restaurant that serves XYZ, maybe we should try it out!" I agree that making friends as an adult is REALLY HARD! My husband is out of town all week long and I literally have no friends to do things with. Then when he gets home I talk his ear off and he looks at me like "Woman! Please me quiet for awhile!" LOL!

Both are valid though. You can be healthy, AND eat a damn cake. You can be fit, AND get a pizza. These things aren't mutually exclusive. And even if you're trying to lose weight, restricting yourself from having that treat doesn't really help you. Just eat it. Don't punish yourself over it. Move on. Realizing I can exercise, eat healthy and have chips, sodas etc when I want because food isn't good or bad.. changed my life.

For the figs part; I am Mediterranean and I don't know if we are doing it right but we usually open it in half with bare hands to kind of push through the skin for all that red parts to be pushed out. This way, you look through it bc sometimes it has little worms inside. Once you make sure there is none you just eat it. And no, you don't eat that extension at the top. I don't know if that was clear or made you more confused. English is not my first language. Best wishes ❤ ♥

@@BeatriceCaruso You can also do the real chef-y hack of putting your egg into a little clingfilm pouch. Put a piece of film over a ramikin dish or small bowl, drop your egg in, gather up the edges your film and you can tie it up like a lil pouch over a wooden spoon or skewer or something so it can rest over the top of the pot and hold the pouch into the water without egg pouring everwhere. You'll get perfectly formed insta-ready eggs, and no need to wash your pot as all it had was water.

Figs are amazing but they, similarly to pineapple, have an enzyme that eats away at your tongue....as I remember every time I get carried away eating them because I love them so much. Not dangerous or anything as far as I know but it definitely feels like I've burned my tongue for the rest of the day! Also, it helps if you turn the poaching water for poached eggs down to a bare simmer so that the floaty bits don't go everywhere! A little vinegar also helps solidify the white a bit faster, and fresher eggs make for fewer floaties since the whites haven't lost as much thickness :D

Poached egg secrets: use a high walled skillet instead of a pot; use brand new eggs, because they’re still attached to the membrane (old eggs are good for deviled/hard boiled eggs for the opposite reason); and add a dash of vinegar can help keep it together! Also, light circular motion, not so vigorous. You’re doing amazing, and I hope this helps 😘😘😘😘

Hi Bea! I assume another person probably pointed it out but when you eat figs that might not be totally ripe they sometimes still contain what’s called fig latex in the little nubin. We have a fig tree and my granny thinking she’s a professional Gardner or something ate one off my tree and she had an itchy weird feeling on her tongue and thought it was poisonous. She was fine! Anyways love your videos always! You are helping me realize a lot of my own life lately ..dieting, binging, possible ADHD tendencies… I just really love the journey you are going through and it is so relatable.

Covid really doesn't help with making friends does it? I think making friends as an adult is just a matter of finding people who are also looking for friends and have similar interests. It takes more intention and probably making the first move. The fact that a lot of people dont want more friends or are just more selective means you need a fairly big pool of people and in these socially distant times its not that easy.

Just wanted to add that my favorite recipe with figs is pasta (cooked with white wine), blue cheese, walnuts, and figs. When I lived and worked in Greece, I made this all the time because figs were free and the rest of the ingredients were cheap and I was poor. It was such a fancy and filling meal. I still make it ten years later and guests love it.

For the eggs, you'll have an easier time if you turn the heat down before you add the eggs. Bring it off the boil, it's the bubbling that shreds your egg whites. Edit to say that chicken and fig dish looks amazing! Figs rule.

Figs! I got so excited about the figs! Figs are such a Mexican thing. My dad’s father used to grow the white ones. He also had a tree that grew well in El Paso ,TX too. I assume they like the dry heat. The more squishy they are, the better. And by squishy, I mean you feel like your finger is going to go right through the soft soft skin. SO DELICIOUS!

I feel you on the wine-being-in-liquor-stores confusion! I grew up in Seattle (where you can buy basically most common wines/liquors in any grocery store), but moved to New York to live with my girlfriend. We needed some ingredients for beef stew, including red wine...I wandered around our grocery store for like, a good half hour before I called my girlfriend and asked her where the wine was. (It was in the liquor store across the street. lol)

My mommom loved poached eggs, she had this little silicone bowl thing that she would crack the egg into, and then put it into a pot of boiling water to cook. Seems like it would be a lot simpler and maybe less messy than the tornado method 😂 There's a girl that works at the thrift store and every time I see her we start having a nice conversation and she has such a great personality and I really want to ask her to be my friend but I have no idea how. Making friends as an adult definitely is a struggle
@KUHNAFSPA
@KUHNAFSPA 3 жыл бұрын
Next time you see her, tell her how much you appreciate her conversations, and then let her you'd like to become better friends. Then maybe invite her to check out a museum/go visit a local park/get brunch together, or perhaps do some other thing related to conversations you've had previously. Kinda like asking someone on a date, except you're stating your platonic intentions. Good luck

I made 2/3rds of my adult friends (both genders) with a variant of: I really like talking to you and wondered if you wanted to try hanging out as friends? If not, its ok. I have 100% success with this method so far. disclaimers: I am female, and therefore there is less societal pressure/expectation/worry from any countepart, that i am secretly trying to weasel my way into romance via. friendsship. This is tougher for men, and thus i cannot claim my method will work as well for a man/male-presenting person.

Here's a tip for poaching eggs. If you take the small glass custard cups and crack 1 egg in each (if you want 2 eggs) float the custard cups in a pan of boiling water and cook to desired doneness (about 3 minutes) Make sure you put a lid on the pan or deep skillet. That way your eggs are not at all watery and will be perfectly uniform on whatever platform ie toast, greens etc.
