There exists a bit of a disconnect on the planet Sera. Mainly, where did the locust come from? have they always existed or were they recently created? I believe I have the answer on where they come from! If you are still reading, its the Sires. But where exactly do the sires originate from? lets find out!
I hope you enjoy Gears of War Locust Origins: Sires Explained 2018 (Lore)
Thanks for watching Roanoke Gaming!

Man, I was so scared of the sires when I first played this level. The way they moved so feral-like, how unafraid of death they were, how they would never truly die until I blasted them apart with the gnasher or sawed them in half. It was these and the Berserkers that truly scared me in GoW.

From what Film Comics Explained have said about them in his Imulsion video, the Sires were Niles' first attempt at creating humanity's next evolutionary step by splicing human DNA with creatures from the Hollow using Imulsion. After he moved to mount Kadar to continue his research, he used stem cells from Myrrah, who was one of the miner's child who showcased immunity from Imulsion, on the Sires to stabilize them and thus create the Locust. The usage of Myrrah's stem cells to create them led them to form a hive mind network that allowed her to control them

See I always figured the Sires at the facility being the first evidence of the connection but not necessarily the first the be created. Like the tunnels to the Hollow wouldnt be that hard to find for early man. So its possible a little of both the arguements exist. Early man turns into "sires", sires create locust or proto locusts, facility experiments happen, and a fresh more intelligent locust varient is made.

I always thought the locust and humans evolved independently from each other, but the locusts were found by the humans, and they wanted to create a hybrid version of Human and Locust. All of these hybrids failed in becoming a link between the two specieis except for one, The Queen. Queen Myrrah is the same bred as the sires (A hybrid) but she was the only experiment to evolve correctly. But she betrayed her human creators and led the Locusts to war, who worshipped her as a Queen.

The Locust are less than a hundred years old if they truly descend from the Sires. I always found the 'origin' of the Locust to be rather...nonsensical. For instance, the US was founded in 1776, but, the US was founded by people which already existed, who could build and produce offspring, and even had an existing infrastructure to work with, as well as a constant new supply of people from other countries to expand the growth, and even then there are less than 400 million people in the US, the Locust Horde on the other hand, are the result of offspring of mutated humans, the population of the Locust could not have exploded so rapidly unless they have a rapid gestation and growth process. The Locust were a global threat, not just to the COG, to everyone on the planet. For a new force to pose that great of a threat to multiple nations across the world, as well as be able to be a seemingly indomitable threat, they'd need to have a large disposable population, as well as have a means of replacing the losses. One could argue they made up for it with the hollow creatures, but they still needed Locust soldiers in order to make up the bulk of their military.
@XBLArmory
@XBLArmory 6 жыл бұрын
The Locust were a mutation of humanity yes but a pseudo intelligent lifeform drove those mutations, the emulsion wanted human bodies, the emulsion kept trying new things to take over human forms but humans would just die so the emulsion acting as intelligent genetic editing CRISPR got down into modifying human progeny. this design process was done through eugenic selection in a pass fail fashion and it appears that captured humans weren't just good for labor they were being used as broodmares. I see the Emulsion as a hive-mind, programming the mutated offspring of their hosts not just on a genetic level but on a neurological level as well and that the emulsion switched from wanting vessels to wanting to save itself from being consumed as fuel which is why the emulsion drove the locusts, who were more susceptible to the emulsion's influence, to cull the humans, now that humanity has seen the danger of emulsion and is trying it's damnedest to go green the emulsion went back to pursuing it's goal of hominid vessels and that's why the Swarm exists and why they seemingly rely on locust oldguard revived from their slumber induced by frozen emulsion. The Emulsion realized the War could be over in a flash as soon as the first lightmass bomb went off and That is when the emulsion knew it would need to protect it's creation but also drive humanity away from using emulsion and that is why shit got so fucking weird in G2 and G3. Emulsion like Floodmass in the halo games gets smarter the greater it's volume, that's why emulsion is often seen in great subterranean lakes but it's also imaginable that the Emulsion can settle in smaller amounts and hit thick stone and get suspended in higher strata and this explains weird malformed shit like the ashpeople and the Formers The Swarm is probably the result of emulsion finally developing it's self into a sustainable genetically stable biomass that has given the emulsion direct control over neurons, more than just a pseudo intelligence it is a real intelligence now and likely is on it's way to self consciousness. As the story continues we'll likely see that the emulsion has realized it didn't need a central human core-mind, a queen, but that itself has developed it's own inner voice to replace her and people will claim they are ripping off Westworld with the bicameral mind stuff when this was probably in the works since G2.
@dracohalo117
@dracohalo117 6 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately it is confirmed in canon that The Swarm are in fact, a further mutation of the Locust and not a mutation of Imulsion (that would have been a better origin honestly). However, the issue is this, the Locust developed a functioning military, a functioning society of immense proportions, an enormous population using reproduction as their sole method of increasing their numbers, within a manner of about 70 years. Even if the Emulsion is a smi-intelligent organism, there is no way for a society of that magnitude, with no existing infrastructure, starting from scratch, to pose a logical threat to equally advanced societies. I am not opposed to humans and Locust being related, the Emulsion could still have mutated early humans, and the Sires are an example of how early humans may have mutated, but for the Sires themselves to be the original Locust Species, the ones from New Hope research facility, from a biological and societal standpoint, makes no sense. Emulsion did not create that society, the Locust did. It would make more sense that a few hundred or a few thousand years prior, humans found their way in the caves and first came in contact with Emulsion, and these people became the first Locust, breeding themselves into castes, forming tribes, in time developing the massive society we see in gears 2. In fact, in Gears 2, Myrrha actually has Locust traits, which they removed in Gears 3. Emulsion could have been what birthed the original Locust from mutated humans, the Sires could have been the proof that this was the case through a similar mutation, and Myrrha could have been an example of a human being afflicted by emulsion and keeping their mind. But they instead went for '70 year old species develops number and military with no aid or infrastructure strong enough to challenge already established and powerful societies'
@XBLArmory
@XBLArmory 6 жыл бұрын
It sort of makes sense if you think of emulsion as really invasive and having the control over genetic selection. For non emulsion guided life evolution takes millions of iterations to make a significant adaptation and that is because of two things. Your DNA is stupid it has no idea of how to be better it's not something that can think at all and that same DNA takes at least 15 years before it has a viable opportunity to be passed on, that level of data compilation and data transfer while done at high speed in short bursts is basically dead weight for 2 decades and it's not even indexed for making edits. For Emulsion guided organisms The second you die That trace amount of emulsion is taking information on your genetics back to the Emulsion lake mind under the ground, that mind is getting massive amounts of data on human's locusts, nature of their demise etc. If the emulsion was trying to create a vessel to control and designing for that intent it wouldn't have taken too long to get data back on failed attempts and could start implementing the methodology changes in human hosts almost immediately early attempts created violent creatures that are more like wild apes because emulsion wanted a vessel, a vehicle not to simply be along for the ride, the problem here is that this iteration process took a good bit of time, what would be better is if the emulsion could have a population center of test subjects within spitting distance of the lake mind to reduce iteration time thus locust civilization. Seriously doubt the writers considered this from the beginning but it would explain locust civilization existing the way it did, it's also something that might explain savage locusts but I'm betting there is different lore explanation there too. As to Swarm not being Part emulsion that is sort of silly, The Writers and developers aren't going to give away that plot point now, they want it to be revealed explicitly in the next game.
@dracohalo117
@dracohalo117 6 жыл бұрын
Perhaps, however even with that, 70 years to create an entire biological species from a base source of a limited number of mutated test subjects, which evolved into a species with such a diverse yet rigid caste system, an enormous population capable of replacing its number as fast as they are destroyed on top of an enormous city structure, it really is pushing it. I could belive a couple hundred years, but 70, I am not so sure.
@dracohalo117
@dracohalo117 6 жыл бұрын
It isn't necessarily the source of the Locust which is the issue, it is the amount of time from source to conclusion I find issue with, seventy years is not long enough for a species to reach a population density in which they could achieve a poipulation large enough to be a global threat, on top of conquering enough of the Hollows to be able to attack the whole world, it is established that the Hollows are populated by many subterranean lifeforms.

My interpretation is that the Locust species has existed for much longer, perhaps a recent of earlier Seran finding the hollows in the past only to become mutated and turned into the original Sires. Much later they were recreated, albeit by accident, when humanity was re-exposed to Imulsion. It was only during the Locust-Seran War that the Imulsion was able to interact with enough new humans to evolve human lambency.

For the record; lore states that sires are technically lambent humans. some of the women where pregnant; they gave birth to the locust, which are different. It's the reason that they where affected by the countermeasure

True, but I did mention towards the end that some other humans were lambent but turned to formers, the sires were different, tho I honestly wonder why that is the case

Sires moved to Mount Kedar. In gears 5 Kait goes to mount Kedar. Put 2 and 2 together.

pretty confusing, pretty sure the humans in the GoW universe colonized Sera while the locust were already calling it home.

Say all of what was in the video is true. If it is, then how do Lambent make Lambent creatures? Because it affects the Locust. Its the whole driving force behind the war.
@RoanokeGaming

I believe that to be a plot hole. Like why did the emulsion make formers in gears 3 but make sires in Gears 2? the Emulsion makes lambent by mutation infection, but maybe its the dose that turns them lambent not just mere exposure

While the second game makes it look like the Locust had a subterranian society that existed for centuries, It seems like Gears 5 tries to retcon the history of the Locust.

Nope, gears 2 explains the locust come from the sires, the hollow has always been there but the locust are new additions

locust being human or evolving from humans is a bit disappointing. i like the idea of them being on the planet before humans.

Well shes human and she was one of the scientists who apparently first started working with the Sires. Eventually she became their queen and went insane with power, your average coming of age story lol

The sires then became the locust. Thats where the locust come from man

Roanoke Gaming Idk where you read that from. If I'm not mistaken humans were experimented on because they were trying to create a perfect hybrid that can be near imulsion. The regular miners that tried to collect that for fuel got rust lung. The locust were always underground when humans were on land, but emerged because the locust underground started mutating into lambents.

I had read that the sires went underground when they moved them from the facility and the sires ended up becoming the locust eventually, strange, where did you read yours? because my info could always be flawed

Roanoke Gaming I read it on the Gears Of Wars website forums. I played the game after release and was curious as to what the Sires were becsuse there wasn't enough info for me in the game, besides knowing they were once human. I went back to check and their website shows me an error 404, but can still be found on google.

Yeah it’s time for an updated version. I don’t like how this was written,( not your video, I’m referring to the lore of the locust ). The humans made the locusts. The thing that bothers me the most about all of this is it totally ruins the mystique and Awe of the locusts, they’re basically science experiment gone wrong. Which is fucking stupid. But the part that really pisses me off. As you expect me to believe, this whole science experiment started at the beginning of the pendulum wars. Which is essentially somewhere under 100 years before e day. Do you expect me to believe, humanity accidentally created a sub species of human. That escaped underground, created a society or nation that spanned the whole hollow of Sera, Create its own religion and caste system, mutated into different types of locusts like boomers and kantus, but more importantly built up an army large enough and sophisticated enough to fight the entirety of the surface of the planet. We’re talking billions of people. They did all this in 100 years, less even more like 90 years. Does that not make sense? Takes millions of years to evolve, at the moment humanity is losing its pinky finger, in about 1 million years we Will have four fingers, yet locus managed to evolve into different subsets in 90 years, well much much much less. It’s too much to write honestly, all the in discrepancies and things that don’t make any sense. Whoever wrote this lore is an idiot. It’s fucking stupid and I hate it. It would’ve been so much cooler if the locusts have always been in the hollow, and maybe at some point millions of years ago some of them went to the surface and slowly evolved into humanity which would make us a sub species of them. How cool would that be, but making them a science experiment gone wrong that 90 years later returns to the surface with a large enough and competent enough armada to bring the entire world and all its nations and all of its technology and all of its armies to its knees? Fucking stupid.

I much preferred the idea they just evolved separate to humans and have always been down there. The whole 'humans made them' is boring generic and unoriginal. A cheap story trope.
