That was the first thing that came to my mind too :D His fellow Canadian musician is using Line 6 spider.. ugh.. :D It does the job for Dev at least.
@AlexrooXell7 жыл бұрын
Glenn thinks that the Line 6 amp sounds horrible when it comes to recording and trying to get the best sound possible. For practice, you can use anything that you like, but he puts the emphasis on not using a "practice amp" for a serious recording. He has some points but also he goes a little too harsh on this amp. For practice purposes, any amp could do just fine :)

One guy online gave it a one star and didn’t even bother to experiment with his own presets. He just shat on the dozens if not hundreds of factory presets. I actually tried this Line 6 amp today with the Devin Townsend presets (imagine that lol) and it sounded REALLY impressive. I’m saving up for one currently

Out of all the artists I admire and there are a few Dev is top of my list, he simply has worked and worked through so much to get where he is, never given up, always original and true to his musical beliefs. Still amazes me that the mainstream media pushes out and promotes manufactured pointless rubbish with zero longevity and ignores the fact that artists like Dev the band with my mate R.V.P play such amazing inspiring and original music!
@minkorrh Жыл бұрын
Hell, look at how long it took Rush to get into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (not that it means squat)....what I'm trying to say is the guy running the RRHOF admittedly dislikes prog rock/metal, and the majority of peoples musical tastes are not sophisticated enough to actually appreciate progressive music....hence the cookie-cutter crap. I shouldn't be so judgemental as it's ok for what it is, but when it comes to artists that really stand out for the correct reasons, they would never have me as a rabid fan like I am for DT. I'm pretty sure if given the chance, 90% of people would find something they really like in his catalogue.

LOL. They really take some heat considering they were the first company to really push the modeling. I still play through an HD500X floor unit and I have no reason to upgrade. Does everything I need and when compared to the newer units and tones, the upgrade cost is nowhere near warranted. I'm an apartment dweller and don't gig, so the stereo headphones are the shit when I can't run through the monitors.
@ZedChuva6 жыл бұрын
I've used nothing but Line 6 since 2003, and have never had problems with their product. Well... I was disappointed in the HD500, cause of the DSP issues, but that aside, they are tops in my book. The Helix, is a thing of beauty.

I'm fairly certain he uses that guitar for the Casualties of Cool stuff and I think a lot (though maybe not all?) of that is in standard.
@Kwyjibo20067 жыл бұрын
Ahh good point! A couple of Casualties songs (Mountaintop, Forgive Me, The Bridge) are definitely in open C but obviously not all of them are. I think the guitar is fairly new though, and that Framus made it for him for the Dunlop Casualties session.
@guitarguts6667 жыл бұрын
there is nothing wrong with using a Line 6 as a practice only rig. It definitely can't do live, "any of them" for that matter. But so long as you could get close to your sound is the point and if you have your real rig mapped correct, there will be no difference. I use my old Spider II 75 Head and the FBV "FirstBornVern" Shortboard all the time for everything I practice at home. Might be time to end the cabling nightmare and go with this setup. not a bad layout at all Dev. Thank you for sharing. Would like to see more on the tweaking on a cabling diagram layout for this like your described.

I have the Line 6 Axsys 212, which was essentially Line 6's first modeling amp way before the spiders. Out of the stuff that they've put out since, including the flextone amps, the Pods and all the spider amps, the Axsys 212, in my opinion of course, sounds the best out of all of them still. It's the one out of all of them that legitimately sounds like I'm plugging my guitar into a tube amp.

"Opinions are like assholes. Everybody's got one and everyone thinks everyone else's stinks." I never got why some people get so upset over the preferences / likings of others. If there wasn't a market for Line 6 devices, they'd be long out of business. They definitely have their place in the modern guitar world, in my opinion.

So the spiders natively work with the G10? That's amazing! I may have misunderstood as I'm in a really loud room with no headphones but that's quite sexy.
@wyldweasil7 жыл бұрын
first Ziltoid was recorded on a POD, I'm sure people will be quite surprised that some of the other albums like Addicted were also recorded on "modeling" software, so they can hate all they want, Dev can make this Line 6 stuff work. So can Twelve Foot Ninja
@MFKR6967 жыл бұрын
You're better off with something like Guitar Rig Pro, Amplitube or Bias Desktop (in no particular order) if you're going the modelling route. I'd take the tone I can get out of my computer over anything from Line6 any day of the week. If you're gonna plug computer speakers into it anyways, you might as well use a computer. What's more? You can run your computer into your stereo, hook up some active monitors, or simply cut out all that crap and go the "silent" route with some 'phones. Plus, with the setup I'm using, I can patch a dry signal straight through the DI into an amp, simultaneously, if I really need one (I don't, usually.) Needless to say, these days if you want big-bucks tone, you don't need to shell out the big-bucks. If you really had to, you could tour with an I-Pad and a couple of active monitors.
