It depends on what you require from a motherboard. None of the ASRock supports more than one M2 PCIe 5.0, which for me it's a no no.

Hello!!!! how possible you didn't included the Asrock Gaming Nova X870E , for only 349.00 us dollars on Neweeg USA it have everything the other manufacturer charge you for 200 even so 300 dollars more ,The Nova , Taichi Lite and Taichi are the only boards that no compromise at all the x16 speed pcie line , you can install all the ssd nve drivers you want , also have a killer VRM much better than the Asus Hero , black plate, digital post code and so and so for less than 400.00 us dollars

I had to get a new motherboard my x670e tomahawk broke (my GPU release switch broke and my GPU was not seated firmly) so I ordered a MSI x870e carbon it will arrive on the 8th of October. Hope all goes well I have an 7800x3d 7900xtx

If you want more Gen 5 ports those lines are shared. The main PCI Gen 5 x16 gets speed reduced to x8. The asrock motherboards offer less PCi 5 gen ports but leave the main GPU PCie lane alone.

@ thank you for the reply. I bought gigabyte x870e for my white pc otherwise I would have gone for the taichi. Anyways I now only use 2 gen 4 nvme so shouldn’t be a matter , 4tb sn850x and 1tb sn850. Might go for a 4tb gen 5 or 8 tb gen 4. Appreciate the reply

Sorry, I have to say this, but almost none of the X870 and X870E boards can be recommended. When you present such motherboards, you should also mention the weaknesses. Most of these boards have serious weaknesses, which especially with the high price, are simply a NO-GO! Please mention the STUPID LANE SHARING of the boards, otherwise this is not a serious presentation. These are certainly not "top choices". Most of the 600 boards are simply better connected and also cheaper too. It's your responsibility to be fair and honest with your viewers, which means not recommending overpriced rubbish!

@@LANPOCALYPSE Yes, that's right. Unfortunately, it/they don't have an independent extra PCIe slot for add-in cards. Only a x8/x8 configuration with the 1st GPU slot. Otherwise it/they is/are okey and the best board/s I've seen so far from the 800 series.

Yes, lane sharing is a problem with the X870/X870E. Only a few X670E on the market allow connecting 2 x M2 Gen5 and still keeping PCIEX16 slot with all 18 lanes..

I don't understand why x870E has so many restrictions about storage, as x670E had not... The most interesting boards are asrock riptide/nova, as they only disable the second/third pcie slot (not many people uses them, right?)

No you just need to update the bios, 7000 and 9000 seriese CPUs can work on b650/b650E and x670/x670E if you have any of those then just update the bios if you want to use the new gen

I find it crazy how often the video talks about the good price-performance ratio. Manufacturers have almost tripled the price of motherboards in recent years. There is hardly anything with a good price-performance ratio as long as we accept these prices, even call them good, and continue to buy early.

I am disappointed, I feel like manufactures are holding out on us. These motherboards look exactly the same as the last 2/3 generations. It’s good see the half handful quality of life improvements but at the same time the boards have almost exactly the same features. USB 2.0 in 2024? You can basically only use them for keyboard and mouse (which most of them are Bluetooth anyway) and yet you still find so many of them. Give us more usb 3.2 and usb Cs instead that we can actually use them. SATA ports? Nvme have gotten cheap enough that you can buy severals and if you need more space DAS and NAS are affordable nowadays. Board sizes? ATX and E-ATX cost more then the high end CPUs and only a handful of people buy them which are either enthusiasts or people who know nothing about PCs and end up not even using half of the extra features anyway. Why are M and I motherboards offering still low? What about back connectors motherboards? Where are they? I think it’s time for manufacturers to step up or people will soon realising that there is no point in upgrading unless your good cpu is over 10 years old.

i have to say it would be good to have more usb ports on the back since i use up all 11 usb ports on the aorus x570 xtreme and upgrading to a new hardware i would have to sacrifice almost half of them i also want to see more 90 degrees plugs for the 24, 8, 6 pin and for more cable management over all they are all good motherboards

The rtx 5090 is still using pcie gen 4 so you can use it with almost any mb and amd mb b650 b650E x670 and x670E can use any 7000 and 9000 seriese cpu you just need to update the bios if you have it dont waste money on the new mb

After my horrible experience with Asus Crosshair Extreme X670E and the Asus RMA process and getting the MB back and still experiencing stability issues and usb disconnects. I am done with Asus. Not to mention that the EA anti cheat software crashes Armoury Crate and makes all EA titled games unable to be played on an Asus MB.

Gigabytes was always My #1 chose but they made all their X870e boards with 6-layer PCB, Mid Loss signal vs 8-Layer low loss signal as even their B650 Elite boards came with 8-Layers until they cheeped out on their Ice Boards and on all their new boards except the Master for $500. To me the best is the Asrock NOVA for $350. I can no longer buy Gigabyte and Asus quality went down but they still charge you just for their Name.

Question: What is max no. displays (4K @ 60Hz) which can be connected to these X870/X870E boards, to be driven from iGPU on 9900X? I understand all these boards have 1x HDMI and 2x USB 4 (supporting DP over USB). In principle, each USB 4 port could output to two 4K displays @ 60Hz (using an MST USB-C to dual DP adaptor). So I wonder whether it might be possible to drive FOUR, or even FIVE 4K @ 60Hz displays from the iGPU via X870/X870E Mobo? (of course, another limitation is max no 4K @ 60Hz displays supported by 9900X iGPU itself, I heard this might be a max of FOUR, but unconfirmed?) I am planning new build using Ryzen 9900X and an X870/X870E Mobo. Will not be used for gaming, for productivity only. I won’t install a discrete graphics card, will rely only on integrated graphics. I wonder if the answer is the SAME for all these X870/X870E Mobos, or would some of them allow to connect more 4K displays than others?

Actually there isn't one single X870 motherboard on the market that supports 2 x M2 PCIe 5.0 and an expansion slot PCIe 5.0 x16 all connected at the same time. They will always share bandwidth and when 2 M2 are connected, the PCIEX16 slot operates at up to x8 mode. The only boards that don't have this restriction to my knowledge are paradoxically based on X670E. 3 are from ASUS, 1 from GIGABYTE and another from MSI but that's all.

Hardly any content makers talk about lane sharing with the GPU. If you use 2 x m.2 pcie 5.0 the GPU runs at x8 not 16. That concerns me. The Asrock Tichi and Nova don't. Wifi 7 is useless unless your router supports it and hardly anyone's does. USB 4.0, all my gear connects with older type usbs so you need adaptors. I will buy a 5090 and a 9800x3d they won't be inserted to any of these boards I'm afraid. Gave you a thumb up though :)
