I love that you installed the handle. It just grinds my gears that you didn't do it on the indented other side of the front. xD
@GeekDetour6 ай бұрын
I see… yeah, the right side is a bit more recessed in the center. When I have time, I will make a variation of my model and I will post it too - the one at the left is already on Printables (link in the description). I usually open doors and lids with my left hand, so the main task can be made with my right hand - I didn’t even consider making the handle for the right side because of that. Also, a handle at the right side might partially block the vision of the touch display, when you are standing up and looking down to the printer. But that’s the beauty of DIY solutions: anyone can choose what’s more important and fits best your preferences. Thank you - that was eye opening.

I was always reluctent with resin I wanted one but got really chatty about my printers with professor second I mentioned resin she told me how a professor of hers she liked died from doing art in resin for years. She got a horrible dose of cancer from not taking it serriously and kept reminding me every time I mentioned resin about the VOC fumes, and other dangers. My biggest issue was the fumes, I saw the little filters but then read you replace them way too often, then saw the preorder for the 4 with the hose slot in back and bundle for their filtration system and yeah I finally put in an order for my first resin. I been printing and selling prints at art shows for last 2 years, even got p1p with ams in my collection but there was always some projects I wanted to do that FDM just couldn't handle so resn taunted me. And now with the flip so attaching a real filter system not the tiny ones you got swap out more often I feel more confident plus all other research like I got a couple spill trays already for when I almsot got the Mars 3 last year, But the saturn 4 ultra just seems to have all I want now. Plus after going from ender 3s to a p1p I can't do the "go cheap go better later" no more lol Like the auto calibrate alone feature on p1p makes it so my 2 other enders have not been used one time in over a year. I mean the p1p can print faster then the 2 enders, and again I don't have to spend an hour or more calibrating it if I let it sit for a long time to get good quality I just hit calibrate and come back later and its good to go. So yeah I like this has a real bed leveling an all those little features, I know I could "git gud" and not need them but at same time at the price why not just get a machine where maintenance is lower? Plus its more forgiving for some one new to resin. But yeah I can't wait for next month its gonna take more start up, but with the filtration and the printer I can always start with a container hand shaking and use the Arizona sun to cure. But eventually, I get cure and wash station I just hope some one comes out with a wash station that this can fit into. Hopefully, they start working on that soon at Elgoo But I am super excited for this I got ton of projects planed i couldn't do with my p1p, gonna miss AMS multicolor prints but not love no print lines I got sand off, and sacrificing fine detail for FDM

The bed re-leveling definitely needs more research. I've adjusted mine the same way, and it needed loosening on the left (left from looking at the machine, platform right?) as well. The issue is this changes the spring pre-load and whether or not this correctly maintains parallelism on subsequent layers as well as the behavior of the force sensor needs investigating. I'd spend good money on a 1st or 3rd party bed upgrade which integrated "perfect" one time (multiple geometry locks) leveling (jack screws per corner?) while still leveraging a spring-loaded system or not. The spring-loaded bed and tilt release substantially change base and transition layer geometry and pressure. The result is inconsistent elephant foot across prints with the same settings and resin. No single solution results in a clear, consistent dimensioning of the first layers and I find dimensioning flaws as high up as the first 5-8mm of print depending on how much bed is used and the parts being printed. Large base layers need an option to step the tilt mechanism itself much slower instead of having to practically fry the base layer to the bed to safely adhere larger prints and warping / partial fails is still an issue with some resins.

Hi there! Please, watch my video on the Mars 5 Ultra - I present a solution for what you just described: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYvapomAZ6eIosk
@aaronb11385 ай бұрын
@@GeekDetour I was referring to using your method with thread locker from the Mars 5 Ultra video. I used this method on my S4U, so I put my comment here not thinking about being clear about that context as I was bouncing between tabs. My concern is leveling the bed by loosening the screws to get even pressure at "Z=0" against the screen also changes the spring pre-load. While I think the adjustment is better than not as I did have some left to right adhesion and base layer thickness / elephant foot variations, the changed spring pre-load affects the spring compression between the upper base plate and build plate during all travel moves including the "compression" stroke the S4U / M5U have during the screen / tank rising back up from release. With the camera, you can see distinct flex of both the upper base, build plate, and arm during each part of the release and reset to "top dead center" stroke. It's especially pronounced during base / transition layers and the first couple dozen after. By the way, on the resin pooling at the built plate edges, yeah definitely getting my money's worth out of a silicone spatula I keep next to the printer there. That said, most of the resins have pretty strong surface tension, so any kind light contact I make with the tank sides pulls resin off quicker. With that in mind, I might test notching my build plate edge / corner or adding a short thin wire barely sticking off the corner to act as a wick. Sanding to a steeper edge is logical, but the bare metal (vs paint) and sanding grooves will also increase the energy available to keep the surface tension holding the resin in place.

6:14 _"[The camera] sees well in the dark"_ Uh? Other testers of the Saturn 4 Ultra out there have pointed out exactly the opposite: the camera is not IR, hence has no night mode ability, and indeed it cannot see in the dark at all. Someone even added an LED light strip inside the enclosure as a workaround!
@GeekDetour8 ай бұрын
I should have rephrased that, would be most accurate to say: “the Lid is super dark when you see from outside - even so, if there some light on the room, it’s enough for the camera to see well.” You are right: in complete darkness, there won’t be anything to see.
@fluxcapacitor8 ай бұрын
@@GeekDetour Ok. This makes me think: is it a good thing to light up the interior of the enclosure with white LEDs to record prints at night? I wonder if these LEDs, that emit in the visible spectrum, don't shine also some of their power in the UV spectrum - that would slowly cure the resin into the vat, if it's the case.
@GeekDetour8 ай бұрын
That’s an excellent point. Ideally, it should be an LED encapsulated in an UV blocking protection. I don’t know how much UV a white LED generates, if it is negligible or not. That’s for some research 🧐

The arrow and "Front" label actually designates the edge of the plate that slides onto the the handle. In otherwords, in Chitubox "Front" faces the rear. I only realized after adding tags and numbering 6 models. One failed and stuck to the film. I was able to see the numbering system. I then looked at chitubox basic which uses the build plate in the UI, where PRO just has the grid. It's VERY confusing.

How did you test if that latching mechanism is "perfect every time", didn't see a dial test indicator - just curious because it's a feature on a part of the printer I had trouble with in the past on other machines - overall repeatability.
@GeekDetour8 ай бұрын
You have a point: I didn’t use a needle dial to test for tolerance between each insert. What I know is: the old mounts (the ones with the ballheads) you could feel everytime you inserted it, they would rest in different positions and the paper tests indicated that the position was slightly different. The way this one on the Saturn 4 is machined is very different than that. It rests on a completely flat surface and you feel it. Also, the springs on the build plate guarantee the contact against the screen. So, yeah, even if it has any variation, the whole system actually worked fine for me perfectly in my test prints without the usual fussing that I was so (sadly) used to do. @FauxHammer just released his review - he printed way more than I did, and his results are the same: it just prints great and easy.

@GeekDetour8 ай бұрын
Sure! When the Lid is UP 90 degrees (it stays), you need 70cm of total height. You cannot safely operate it if you have less (the cover should at least rotate and become “horizontal”) it gets even taller if you continue pushing it more to the back. You need 43cm of depth with the lid opened. 33 is the depth of the printer with the lid closed.
@GeekDetour8 ай бұрын
You need at least 40cm wide to access the lateral and “turn” the printer on with your hand, as well as space for the Wifi antena. About Resin Smell: I don’t like it. I print much, muuuuch more with filament. I love the quality of the resin prints 😄 When I print resin, I set it and I go away… I finally have my Workshop separated from the house, so I “go back home”. Oh, sure, the iPhone 16 will also be better than the current iPhone 15 (usually, hopefully). The Saturn 4 is an exciting machine because some changes are very welcomed (the lid, the latch-quick-release and printing without needing to adjust anything), all of that for a very accessible price. These are reasons enough for many people to get a newer printer. For people that are happy, lets say, with their Saturn 3, maybe it doesn't justify the upgrade.

@GeekDetourАй бұрын
First, I appreciate you using the links. It would help if I could see photos of your failures. Are you participating in a Facebook users group? It helps a lot. More important than settings is the temperature of the resin: during winter, if you have the printer in the garage (my case), it is more challenging. The resin should be near 25°C. Bellow 20, it gets too viscous and adhesion becomes a problem. To me, the challenging thing to master (with almost all resin printers) is where to put supports, how much support, how thick they must be.
