They work decently when they aren’t dealing with unexpected things or when they don’t have to think critically. There’s quite a few scenes where they are silent during combat because they already know what’s going on so they are quiet. When their tiny minds are prepared for combat they what they do best: constantly advance forward without fear while shooting endlessly in the general direction of the enemy. When they get caught off guard they don’t process fast enough to react leading to their needless comments and their untimely deaths.

@wouterkessel48524 жыл бұрын
@@EloquentTroll If you make the tank a droid of its own it both can no longer be used by their organic commanders that use the things as mobile command posts, and if anything goes wrong with the tank it becomes useless. Meanwhile if it has a droid crew, they can in theory at least just get out, fix the problem, and start the thing up again.
@wouterkessel48524 жыл бұрын
@Yair Correa You do realize the stupidity of that answer right? As that would mean that the moment the tank breaks, you're no longer able to actually control the damn thing, as it would be highly likely that, with the not too capable programmers they use, that would be the first thing to break. Creating an even worse problem, as now you don't actually have anyone that knows how to control the tank, courtesy of the CIS's cheapskate behaviour which meant that as soon as something can be done cheap, you need to do it as cheaply as possible (I.E. if you've got something that can control the tank, you don't need to program droids to be able to do it themselves, nor train organic allied troops on how to use the vehicles.)

Most B1 battle droids had so limited mobility they were walking targets from the start, making them only good as semi-stationary turrets, so enforcing that style of attack by placing them at sniper nests would probably have been the best use of their limited resources. Sadly, they were mostly deployed as foot soldiers in vain. At the start of the war I can understand it, B2 battle droids were still not common enough to fill the ranks, but nearing the end, most B1 battle droids on marching armies should've been replaced by B2 battle droids at the very least, making the armies significantly more stronger, since they appeared to be more resilient in battle. But let's not forget, the droid army was built to give some struggle and be defeated, not to win. Making shitty clankers who spend more time pointing out the obvious and have 10% of the mobility of a clone trooper with 1/4 of the brains is definitely the cheapest way to carry on a war with the minimum investment.

The B1's had more memory in sound recordings to help them remember orders from commanders. However, the amount of sound recording memory was excessive. So, B1's spoke a lot of their subroutines and commented on their situation so that they could store it in their sound recording memory. This allowed them to just mentally play back a recording to understand what they should do. Obviously, there are many limitations as B1's typically recorded a subroutine, for example how to man the artillery, only a few times before deleting the subroutine. This prevented them from accessing the full subroutine and also caused them to not always access the correct actions due to the limited data set of only a few recordings, for example understanding how to man the guns in a battleship but now on the surface of a planet due to limited recordings. This resulted in B1's being very chatty, but also having a difficult time understanding their situation. Ironically, due to this method of memory conservation, B1's always talked about what they knew, and never asked about what they didn't know due to the subroutine's sound recordings only recording things a B1 has done, not the full potential of what a subroutine can do.

@Flint_Inferno5 жыл бұрын
Honestly, that is an ingenious explaination
@almondpotato94835 жыл бұрын
@@snipingflute4346 Well, the average B1 does not have to pick a new commander on their first couple of battles, so by the time the B1's had deleted their original Leadership Subroutine, they would not have voice recorded themselves picking a new commanders. So, when they actually had to pick a new commanders, only a few rare B1's knew what to do from previous experience or had not deleted the subroutine yet. And it took a while for the other's to figure out what to do because B1's can only communicate by talking, and are just slow in general.

@@MachineMan-mj4gj thats ah, thats not how overclocking works. You typically don't see computation errors, rather the CPU is not stable, and will cause blue screens of death due to mismatch of northbridge and multiplier clocks. Heat can also be an issue, but the box will never "explode"

The reason why is that the droids programming had worn out overtime causing the droids to gain personality from the technological decay that occurred. The personalities weren’t the only things that the droids developed, they also developed disabilities like being really stupid or not functioning properly. In my series they started out strong but soon decayed and withered away due to the cheapness of the B1 battle droid. Another thing in my series is that some droids were assigned to things that they weren’t supposed to be assigned to. Such as a rocket battle droid commander given authority to conquer and govern planets. It drove the droid f*cking mad. Later on he goes mentally insane and dies in his own base due to disrepair and the lines of code eroding away. A new rocket battle droid would come to take his place earning the name era 2 or 2.0 and he would cause more terror across the stars for years to come. By the events of revenge of the sith the droids would be worthless wastes of alloy and programming even then in my series the clone wars lasted way longer than 4 years, it lasted for 10 years. Droids then would be far gone due to the cheapness and how low quality they are.

Personally I liked using them as comedic relief. Though I never understood how AI with personality is cheaper then AI who serve a function. I liked the droids from the movie as well. I guess the move from central control to autonomous required individually? Also I was a little disappointed the scene from Ryloth where the droids discuss the older droid models being faulty and they the newer ones were superior was not included in the video.
@shadowhunter08155 жыл бұрын
It is not, that they were programned with personality, but rather, that the A.I. developed a personality, dou too much information and updates in too short amount of time as they could handle. Technicly speaking, the Seperatists gave their army collectiv dementia.

In star wars it a basic rule that droids need memory wipes to function perfectly like... well droids. If no wipe happens their ai gets buggy and develops habits and quirks thus starts to develop a personality. Those wipes however cost time and personal to perform them. The CIS decided to save money there and thus the droids didn't get enough wipes to prevent them to develop personalities. Thats also why R2 is the way he is. Hardly got any memory wipes for decades.

Basically, frequent impromptu updates combined with infrequent memory wipes caused quirks in the droids programming. Both Legends and Canon allude to this with R2-D2, who never had a memory wipe which developed his unique personality. I believe this is why he survived running the blockade of Naboo; After seeing the other astromechs being destroyed, it looks like he plugs his own power supply into the shield generator to get the shields operational long enough to complete repairs. Thinking outside the box. Thoughts on this anyone?

One of them is like "Hey look at B1! No wonder he got destroyed! He's one of them older models controlled by a central computer!" then either the same droid or another says "Not us! Were there other generations of the B series battle droids that never made it to mass production? I know of the B1 standard model, the B2 Suuper Battle Droid, the B3 Ultra Battle Droid and the BX series Droid Commandos. No i think the X in BX realy is just an X and not a 10. After all the B3 itself was a realy yoused Prototype. There maybe were Plans and ideas for a B4 but they were nevr Developet. After all the B3 already is a freaking Monster that was a huge Challange for two wary Powerfull Jedi. I doubt the CIS could improve much about the B3 for a B4 aspecly because the B3 already was WAY to expensive for Mass Production. Kinda depends. If the B1s are massed in numbers, the Predator and Terminator would probably do better, both being able to formulate more complex strategies. Xenomorphs though might be too aggressive, attacking despite facing overwhelming numbers. I wouldn't imagine a xenomorph getting past the single digits, simply because the main advantages they have wouldn't be very useful against battle droids.
