Frankly the biggest issue I have always had with SW is that it doesn't understand the scale of manpower and resources required for a galaxy wide war. You look at Star Trek or even better the 40K series, you can see and hear the absolute scale of conflict with literally billions and trillions of lives involved in the conflicts. Even one of the most extreme exaggerations of the total Jango clone production run was less than 2 billion clones, and that itself is a massive stretch from the more commonly accepted numbers. That sounds like a great deal until you realize the sheer scale of war. World War II, a war fought when the global population was less than 3 billion, had 20 million combat deaths across the various nations. For reference Coruscant is believed to have 1000 billions, or 1 trillion lives on that planet alone. If we used JUST Coruscant as our ratio of expected deaths to supply the appropriate ratio of lives needed to reach the same percentages you would need 10 BILLION clones just for the population of Coruscant. This is to say nothing of other major plants and populations. Tl,Dr SW maths for conflict makes no sense.

@@Isometrix116 interestingly that is actually part of the evidence used to help with the 2 billion number estimate. Reason being it is implied it is 1 million units, but never really specifies if that means a unit as in an individual clone or a battalion size unit of roughly 500-800 clone troopers as referenced in episode II. But as you say, even THEN it is nothing in a galaxy of trillions against trillions of droids.. 10 billion would be needed to DIE to reach the WWII equivalent, let alone another 90+ billion to account for the soldiers that didn't die, and again that is just if Coruscant was the only population drawn into the war to give us scale. Coruscant may be populous but to think that the 10s of 1000s of planets wouldn't produce populations in excess of 10s or 100s of trillions is crazy. And given 10 trillion the number of causalities becomes almost immeasurable. It even puts Alderaan into perspective when you consider that the lives lost to destroy the main financial backers of the rebels would be inconsequential compared to the lives saved by ending the rebellion in a real conflict.

Still, if the Republic introduced conscription of just 1% of the population (of the member worlds) that would be a massive fighting force that would overwhelm and crush the CIS, assuming they could equip and transport such numbers. Of course the billions upon billions of 'Imperial guards' would go "WTF is order 66?… _oh hell no!"_ Now play with higher conscription rates and imagine the number of Storm Troopers…oh!

To be honest I always saw the closed helmet as an advantage because if buzz droids jack your cockpit seat you could just attach your oxygen into a another container same if your forced into a battle without oxygen and you could still breath normally and plus if for example if clone Pilots crash and survive they can still fight on the ground if there armed mainly because they are also wearing armour unlike the pilot uniform used at the latter days at the clone wars they are pretty much one sided they are only used for piloting ships and nothing else

Another problem is that they don't separate between gunship pilots and fighter pilots or at least in the clone wars series. We see hawk fly gunship and headhunters. The same thing with warthog and I think oddball.

Maybe they first trained on gunships as they were already designed when the Clones were made, but later on they needed pilots for the newer craft. It made sense to take clones already trained to fly one ship type to learn another, than to train a grunt from _the ground up,_ so to speak, to be a pilot. In the real world existing pilots are taught to fly new planes, such as taking F-15 pilots and turning them into F-22 pilots. It's just in the GAR they transitioned to completely different types of craft. But then a T-16 can prepare you to fly a X-Wing.

Awesome video, I agree the CIS had a distinct advantage during space conflict, I always argue that with my buddies cause they don't seem to understand that CIS star fighters had advanced programing and were capable of performing evasive maneuvers that would kill clones and regular pilots due to the sheer speed. And the sheer numbers of the CIS fighters reeked havoc on the clone starfighter corps.

Hust91 turns in space are very different than turns in atmosphere. Basically a turn would just change the way you face. But you would still be moving the direction you were going. The engine that was accelerating you would then be decelerating you, and then you stop, and then you start accelerating in the new direction

The problem wouldn’t be the durability of the star fighter, it would be the durability of the pilot. An ai doesn’t have to worry about passing out from g forces. In space there is no air resistance so there is no limit aside from your propulsion systems on how many gs you could pull, no human could beat an ai controlled fighter ever unless electronic warfare was extensively used

They probably lacked the experience needed to give them a real advantage. They would have been the once in need of the larger army, but they could never produce faster than the CIS had, especially due to the unwillingness to go all-in shown by many members of the Republic. Plus clones were all-rounders. A droid can fullfill one task, a clone pilot any.

I think a lot of it has to do to the lack of any droid production infastructure in republic territory. The republic didn't have the equipment required to mass produce droid armies and navies while the C.I.S already had large industrial planets that can (e.g. Genosis). In the outbreak of the war the 2 sides simply used what they already had, the republic used clones, while the C.I.S had droid foundries.

First off, love the idea of Pilot Week. Starfighters are one of my favorite parts of Star Wars, so I am excited to see the pilots get the love they deserve. Now, if I were a Republic Starfighter Corps fighter pilot, I would definitely want to fly a Y-Wing. While not the fastest, they were tough and had a lot of power. Plus, I’d feel much safer having a gunner to watch my back and an astromech to both handle repairs and help with hyperspace navigation

Oran Neeson I doubt it. They grow up within one year, because are in incubators until they’re grown up. Outside of that incubator they probably age slower. Despite that, I think they still age faster than regular clones.

@@thazmat The irony that this is a reversal of the US Civil war. The Federal Army had the best industrial capability but it had mediocre to poor officers. The Confederacy had the best officers but poor industrial capability. The industrial capability beat out the Confederacy in the long run as they had to co-opt every from guns to cannons near the end. In this case the Trade Confederacy (who also were the ones to secede) lost because of the Jedi.

Star fighters weren’t the true space killers but the buzz droids and tri driod fighters where the true menace and the fact the star fighters didn’t need droid poilots. Also love how the tri fighters where made by the bug race colloids!. For as small the tri fighter is super fast and had probably the most diverse weapons.

*Jango Fett,* the template for the clone army was a natural soldier and great warrior - and _Jedi killer_ (the real reason he was chosen …mwahahaha), but *not a* exceptionally gifted *natural pilot,* still competent, but not the best. They should have* (and eventually did rush jobs with Sparta clones from confirmed Aces) chosen a different donor to be the template for their flyboys, a specialist pilot. While the chronology is wrong could you imagine a clone pilot Space Fighter Corp based on Han Solo ! (Assuming his skill isn't based on latent Force sensitivity which can't be cloned). * The Clone army wasn't designed to win, but to drag the war out and eventually to _kill all the Jedi._ A military designed for *pure victory* and to win would have used more than one clone template to bring in different skill sets and areas of natural ability. The aforementioned ultimate natural pilot (there must have been candidates, Wedges dad? There were enough space battles and conflicts pre war to provide a few tested legendary aces, maybe among the outer rim). And a clone of a strategic and tactical genius [a Wormhole caused Captains Sisko or Picard to fall through ! A step up from Han Solo time traveling…], to make the officer Corp and Generals, rather than a bunch of *militarily untrained Jedi* that incompetently lead clones to being slaughtered and Jedi being corrupted with blood on their hands (and eventually to be leading a charge when their men _66 them in the back…)._ Someone chosen for their brains and ability to think and improvise on the spot while remaining calm and not getting flustered. Harder to choose as there aren't the proving grounds of major wars to demonstrate potential, but there's enough conflict, and promising candidates from academies to give it a shot. Then there's support staff ect, which are a waste of combat clones. A _gifted_ mechanic would be a logistical advantage. But at this point maybe droids should be considered. *The army was flawed because it was meant to be flawed.* Most of us could design a better GAR on the same budget if Palps wasn't there to interfere *[*choking sounds…final gasps…💀].*

If you want to kill Jedi you only have to put enough shots into them to over power their defenses. Even a shotgun would have been enough. The only thing that helped them kill Jedi was their undying loyalty to the Emperor/Chancellor.

And remember vulture Droids can land and move on the ground makeing them basically flying tanks. They could be in the air one second and on the ground shooting you on the ground another second.

Another problem is lack of originality on the organics part. The original series were all cloned from one guy and given identical training. So they had a very limited repertoire of moves. The droids on the other hand probably had thousands of moves programmed in. The only real advantage of organics over droids is unpredictability. And you don't get much unpredictability when everyone thinks exactly alike. This is also why planetary defense aces did so much better. They could think outside the droidships box.

If I were to become a pilot I would definitely fly the z-95 headhunter. It’s the fastest republic star fighter and is very durable too. It’s one manned as well and there isn’t a lot to shoot at from behind

This was true and the same with warhammer 40k. Necron's air superiority was overwhelming. Their pilots could do impossible motions and maneuvers that living things cannot due to physical constraints. Their disadvantage however was lack of warp drive. The necrons never really got into the invading side of things.

Headhunter would be filthy to fly, super fast small. And very maneuverable! X wing wouldn’t be bad as well lil slower but turns on a dime

I loved ARC-170s, though my second choice is the V-Wing. ARC-170s are tanks, heavily armored and having larger crews than any other fighter we've seen in the movies, lending a sense of comradery to them (and it just so happens I have two brothers who were also disappointed when Battlefront 2 (2005) did not have three person crews). V-Wings are also great, and have a very sleek look. Even if the ARC-170 is one of the slowest fighters in the movies, I'd rather fly that (or be a gunner on it) than be stuck in a Z95 Headhunter.

One of the oft-forgotten disadvantage of having a follower that doesn't question orders is that if they are given a directive that is only slightly flawed; they will perfectly execute their given directive even if it leads to self destruction in a completely wasteful manner. In other words, they lose the ability to become responsive and able to adapt to new battlefield circumstances. No commander can be 100% aware of everything going on the battlefield, past, future and present. Where a clone pilot may set out on an objective; only to find the circumstance is not precisely as the commander predicted it and thus adjust accordingly; a dutiful droid incapable of questioning orders or betraying its directive would carry on even if it took them into an obvious trap/ambush. Good soldiers follow orders... but they are also able to not follow flawed orders, decipher the command's intent rather than follow his commands word for word and react accordingly to a changing situation or unforeseen events. These are arguably the clone's strongest ability; not their aiming skills, physique, but their ability to think and adapt on the battlefield.

I would like to fly in a TIE Hunter or a TIE Predator, because they have everthing, Shield Generator, Hyperdrive, very good armament, and speed and are incredbly manouverble

I think the y-wing is always the best choice. U have torpedos, a defence turrent, hyperdrive and good shields. In my opionion the extra clone with the ARC is not needed. Sadly the Laat has no shields and normally don't come with space equip.

It's funny that cannonically tri fighters were heavier than vulture droids but in the battlefront games they are shown to be weaker and have less armor than vultures.

Physics nerd here, high speeds won’t kill you (unless you hit something), high acceleration or deceleration will. For example, riding in a car going on the highway is fine, but slamming into a tree is deadly (deceleration). Fighter pilots feel the force of changing their direction and speed, limiting them in maneuvers at high speeds. Not a commonly known distinction, but now you too can wow your friends and strangers on the internet.

Modified it would have made a good Jedi ship, especially for special missions. It could be fitted with an aftermarket hyperdrive (a common mod) which meant no vulnerable and attention drawing hyperspace rings left in orbit. _And it came with shields as standard._ It didn't scream Jedi, useful as it lead opponents to underestimate the pilots skill, or to realise there was a Jedi about if they found one hidden near a sensitive facility. It's one weakness was it didn't have a astromech slot, but perhaps a extended version or higher priced special edition could be made, after all it was a old design so a bit of upgrading might be possible and then you have a slightly less powerful X- Wing, but still a versatile craft. And it's apparently better in atmosphere, which is useful for getaways from or raids on a contested planet.

The only part of the new battlefront games I like is the fighter combat. I'm not easy to shoot down... unless I've managed to butcher the entire opposing team to the point they ACTIVELY hunt me down... immediately upon sighting me and get me out the second I spawn in.
