I love how practical the Sith code is and how useful it is irl. Peace is a lie, there is only passion. Because peace brings stagnation and passion is the only thing that drives us forward. If you ware at peace you care little to bettering your surroundings and yourself. But Passion is all about bettering yourself and your surroundings. Be better! Find your passion and get off your lazy ass and work towards what you want! Through Passion, I find Strength! Through my desire I shall gain what I need to obtain it. Basically I use my passion to learn/train/practice for my desires and while doing so I will not only gain physically what I need but I also gain knowledge of my desires. How to get it, who to know, what to have, why everything is the way it is. Strength is the ability to achieve your desires. Through Strength, I find POWER! The power to move towards my desires. The power to change things. The power to act, and with it the confidence that only comes from strength of will, knowledge and body. But also the political power of people that surrounds it, their respect and influence. All the means needed to achieve my desires are now in the grasp of my hand, all I need to do is actually use it. Through power, I find Victory! You did it! You gained what you wanted! You have achieved it all! Use your power to go the final step! Don't cover, don't hide! MOVE FORWARDS! The whole code is built around actually achieving what you want to. Not to maybe possibly do so, but to actually to it! Through Victory, my chains are broken! You will now see just how far you have come, and ever step empowers your future ones. The greater your passion the deeper your strength and the wider your power! Victory is never the end! It frees you to do more, so much more. In any field too! And so do those around you. They know what you have achieved. They know you are to be trusted, that you know what you are talking about and what you are capable of. This opens doors you never knew existed for you. The Force shall set you free. As long as you follow the path in it's entirety, you will succeed. Believe in the process. Make your own path, for it is inevitable that you shall reach it's end. A very practical way of breeding competence. I love it as it is applicable to everything in life, no matter how big or small your passion may be. I also like how no step is defined. So it applies to everything. Basically if you want something go get it! Can't, figure it out! Then go get it! The more unobtainable the more valuable the journey to get it is, but gaining it is just as important as the journey. As is what to do after gaining it. Soo good! But easily soo Evil! A code that can be corrupted to any end but also further any goal. It fits the Sith and the Empire so damn well!
@88Spint7 ай бұрын
Also, the Siths interpretation of the code is all about emotion and use of the force. With passion being a symbol for strong emotion, strength being how much of the force you can use, power being what you can to with it and victory being what you are able to achieve with that power. But the only emotion the code stats is passion. The rest is just how they themselves see it. They made it a tool for war, pain, suffering and revenge. How awesome of a writing tool is this!? It's so goooood! :D

@ariesstorm95773 ай бұрын
I feel like the Sith code works better for the individual, for one who wants to do better and become the best version of themselves. This perfectly aligns with the Sith’s sense of self, which isn’t always a bad thing. Doing good for others is all well and good, but it can be detrimental to your own progress. Why waste your life for the sake of others who would likely not do the same for you? Also, how can you hope to help others if you are unable to even help yourself? I also think the Sith code is more useful for improving mental health. There is nothing more crippling than depression and the Sith code may be the better option for finding the drive to push through if not overcome depression. The Jedi code feels like it is submitting to it, to accept it and let it rule over you. Don’t get me wrong I’m all about the peaceful life. Peace, harmony , serenity are all good things that I like, but for my mental health I find the Sith code is simply better. Ever had those days where you just don’t have the get up and go and all you want to do is waste the day away laying in bed or on the sofa? That’s where the Sith code comes in handy, recite it and let it drive you to get up and be productive. Because if there’s one thing depression hates, it’s productivity. Even if you only walk to the nearest shop and back, or even the end of your street, you have a dealt a devastating blow to your depression, all thanks to the tenets of the Sith code. And when you’re feeling refreshed that’s where the Jedi code comes in: the depression has been put in its place and your mind is at a healthy place, use the Jedi code to help keep that mental stability for the rest of the day. But first use the Sith code and break those chains of depression that keep you shackled! Also the Sith code itself is not evil, nowhere does it say to commit atrocities or acts of evil, they are things that come from the individual self. Sith culture and customs are responsible for that, not the code itself. I firmly believe that one can live life as a pacifist and still follow the Sith code. Passion, strength, power. These are internal things. Strength doesn’t have to mean the muscles on your arms, it can mean mental strength. The same goes for power.

TBF no matter how tempting it is whenever I play as a sith in SWTOR, I always go out of my way to free slaves and befriend the common soldier. On one hand, you can simply interpret it as a sith seeing an easy way to gain power and influence to kill or overthrow those above them. But in the other it's because the sith code really feels like it resonates with those beneath the galactic society's feet. The Jedi, time and time again, end up just servicing the upper echelon of republic society, always making excuses for why they allow horrific crimes to continue. Personally it's why I think both Anakin and Ahsoka became disillusioned with both the Jedi and the Republic, because slavery was everywhere. The Jedi order could have easily purged the galaxy of slavery, but became scared that it would upset the balance of galactic economy and society. Slavery and poverty breed feelings of hatred, of feeling chained down, of defeat. All things that the sith code pushes you to destroy.

As only virtues that one should apply to themselves as individuals. Darth Bane saw it as rules of the universe, and thus applied them not only to himself, but the rest of the galaxy, mostly through tactics and strategy. For example, the first line of the code, "peace is a lie," he applied by giving it to the jedi. He wiped out all sith but himself, making them believe that peace had been achieved, and thus left their guard down and allowed the Sith to eventually conquer the galaxy. Freedom either way is the cornerstone of Sith philosophy, and through personal achievement you can find one way to pursue liberation. This, to me the most important Sith values would be as thus. Liberation, self centeredness, determination, a commitment to your individual values and ambitions, passion, and self mastery. We currently live in an age where people are often indifferent and cynical, so I think that Sith teachings would show them that they can ultimately live for themselves. Survival has its basis in the vision and Sith values that we prefer above all others, more of these values can be said to be; the inner control, common will, self-discipline, warrior mentality, absolute individualism, independence, vitality, and perseverance. The point of Sith values is to create an individual that has the abilities or power to pursue what they like and survive in any environment. Our vision for a better future and world order is centered around the appeal to strength, power, and knowledge, as well as to all Sith along with victory. Since victory can be shared by all diligent and cunning individuals who work just as hard and do as good of a job on their self-development, we would say our vision is about making the world more suited for all by our aggregate actions towards order which makes it possible for the strongest/best as well as ambitious and victorious to gain freedom and gain perfection in all ways, to master oneself physically, mentally, spiritually, emotionally and financially.

This is a very interesting video. If I may chime in, disagree in order to start respectful discussion though: This idea that the Dark Side is wholly corrupting and something that exists outside of the "True Force" is a product of Jedi philosophy. According to Chirrut Îmwe from Rogue One, "The Force darkly surrounds those who are about to kill." If this is to be believed, This means that any animal that consumes matter to survive is technically in tune with the dark side. A rabbit doesn't flout the ][natural order the way this video describes those using the dark side do by killing and eating grass, and a wolf also doesn't flout the natural order of the force when it kills and eats the rabbit. The dark side is just as much a part of the force as the light side. So, while claiming it is sentient is true, claiming that it wants to corrupt people to flout the natural order seems incorrect, because the dark side is still part of the force, part of the natural order. The dark side merely gives you the option to do so if you wish, though it likely doesn't explicitly encourage it. This is all to say that the dark side is something less like an addictive drug like cocaine or nicotine, and instead functions more like alcohol, in that it makes you more reckless/bolder with your decisions. The dark side doesn't seek to corrupt, the same as alcohol doesn't seek to make people abusive. That is just the nature of people. Alcohol doesn't seek to make someone braver or make them happy, either, and neither does the dark side. It is important to remember that the Sith doctrine is diametrically opposed to the Jedi Code. The Jedi code doesn't personify the Light side though, and similarly, the Sith Code doesn't personify the Dark Side, and I think we could stand to treat the codes of jedi and Sith as separate from the light and dark sides of the force. What they ultimately reflect is someone's interpretation of that side, and enough people found it agreeable that it stuck around. The Sith code is ultimately Similar to the Jedi code in a way I am kind of sad didn't get mentioned in this video. Both the Jedi and Sith codes deal with freedom. There is a John Green quote from his U.S. history series that I think summarizes the difference between the Jedi and Sith codes perfectly. It was something along the lines of, "It wasn't so much about the freedom to drink booze, it was freedom from the temptation to drink booze." The Jedi code was all about surrendering to the will of the force and letting the force guide you instead of yourself. The Sith Code was all about freedom to do what you wanted, regardless of the Force's actual wants. To recontextualize the John Green quote, "It wasn't so much about the freedom to [do what you want,] it was freedom from the temptation to [do what you want.]" The Dark side, wants people to surrender to its will, the same as the light side wants people to surrender to its will, so claiming that the Sith code represents the dark side, when the dark side theoretically wants the opposite seems like a pretty direct contradiction. The Jedi code offers freedom from a guilty conscience, and the Sith code offers freedom from consequences, which is the real reason why so many Sith seek immortality. It isn't to flout the natural order in the name of the dark side, it is to flout the natural order against the dark side, using the Sith code as justification. The Jedi do much the same, but I left a similarly huge rant on your community post about it already, so I won't go too far into it. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

I think they're two sides of the same coin, the mirror and its reflection. There is no death, only the force. There is no light side, only the force. There is no dark side, only the force. The dichotomy of the orders is yet another illusion of separation of the force to meditate through. The force itself is non-dual. So each interpretation of it is veritably infinite, and valid as an aspect of the force. For the force flows through all things, and all things are one in the force.

What makes the Sith the biggest threat in the universe is something they might not outright say, but for all intents and purposes, their ultimate goal is essentially to becomes gods. They never stop trying to achieve this goal, believing it is within their reach through the perversion of the Force via the use of the Dark Side. If the Force bows to the individual, specifically the Sith, who intend to enslave it to heed to such, they could shape life however they see fit and choose who is worthy of power or who isn’t. There will be no limit to what they can and will do.
@leiferikson8509 ай бұрын
And thats why they fail from an in-universe perspective. The force will not kneel, it allows, maybe just endures a pseudo-master-salve relationship (Think of Kotor 2' Sith - Impossibly powerful in their own way but also bound, dependend and shackled by the force through their feats) but after a certain threshold has been reached it will fight back and plot to destroy them. Best example is Anakin being created by the force to cleanse it of Palpatine and Plageuis corrupting influence over it - with their lifes... (Source: Darth Palgeuis novel)

@@DarthNox66 The Dark Side corrupts life, breeds the unnatural. Some are born more sensitive to the Force than others. If the Force bows to the will of the individual, there would be no limit to what somebody can will. They could disconnect somebody from the Force altogether, stir and manipulate midichlorians, perhaps even grant power or absorb it. They could strengthen connections, tap into abilities once beyond the reach of so many. There is literally no limit to what they could will. Doesn’t that sound like a god? With the Dark Side at their beckon and the Force bending to the Sith, they can create their own version of life. Dark plants or shadowy creatures, or corrupt what life already exists into something else. The Dark Side of the Force is already corrosive and corruptive of life and its surroundings. The unnatural can become commonplace.

Bendu (character) is kind enough to offer wisdom and whatnot but is apathetic towards the effort of fighting the tyrannical empire. Kreia is active and passionate about the well-being of the galaxy but would go through insane methods of making others suffer or die for others to prosper. The person's side of the force doesn't just come from the powers they use but also where they morally stand. I don't know how mentally healthy it is to regularly use something like force lightning since it derives from hate.

A few points:- 1) I would say it's less Sacrifice vs Selfishnes, but more Unity vs Individuality. The Force is made up of the energy of every living being, it's will is arguably the will of all life (including a Sith's own). A collective if you will. Jedi seek to obey that will (in Sith's eyes they would be willing slaves), to become one with that will (and in so doing loosing their own), Sith meanwhile seek to impose their own will on the force. This is more then being free of the force as you described but rather ruling the will / energy of every living being. 2) The goal of the Sith (as per the Sith Code) is Freedom. Where you describe it as free of Will of the Force (which is correct) I would take it further. Sith seek to free themselves of all restrictions whether imposed by others or themselves. Thing is if ONE being has complete and utter freedom then all other beings are not free at all. Because Sith seek freedom, they impose slavery on others.
@amyb.63689 ай бұрын
That puts individuality on the side of "evil" though, which I don't believe at all. Standing up for what you believe in, going against the mob, leading, not being fooled by dictators trying to rule sheep, advancing the human race with new ideas, etc, are all by their very nature things you need individuality to achieve, and are all good things that the Jedi would also stand behind. I see it more as whether you believe in an outward power of goodness (something like a god or a solid set of principles) or believe yourself to be the greatest goodness. Because if you believe the latter, your goodness will be flawed because all people are flawed. And so you are more likely to just do what you want, let yourself go to your worst instincts, because...what's stopping you if you don't think that's a bad thing? Put another way, narcissism is to individuality as mob rule is to teamwork. Sith are narcissists rather than individualists.
@sarethuskami50829 ай бұрын
@@amyb.6368 Thing is in terms of the force? It very much is 'Evil' (again in terms of the Force). I don't know if you have read the Recluce Series by L.E Moddiest but there was sequence there that reminded me of Star Wars when I read it when I was younger:- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wise Master was giving student a lesson and basically said:- If you use magic to light a fire for a freezing child, you give yourself to Chaos. (Fire is Chaos magic). If you use magic to heal a murderer, then you give yourself to Order (Healing is generally Order). In other words magic did not care the reason why you called on it, it cared on how/what you called. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- That always reminded of Star Wars. Call on the Force to heal some-one out of passion, you are dark-side. Call on the Force to kill someone because you (and the Force) have dispassionately judged them as a threat...you are light-side. Again the Force does not care if you are calling for murder or healing or visions etc. HOW you call it is what defines you as a Light-Sider or Dark-Sider. Call on the force when you are in-tune with it's will, great you are light-side. Call on it when you want to go your own way against the will of the force, to impose your own will on the force...You tread on the path of the Dark Side. NOTE: Keep in mind we are not talking about Han Solo or even Admiral Piett being 'individualistic' or 'orderly'. We are talking about FORCE-USERS being individualistic etc... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Basically a Jedi is meant to harmonise their own will with the Larger Will (The Force). Most heroes (especially in fiction) though are more individualistic. They might defend Society from outside threats but they are very willing to push-back against society if they feel society is constraining them un-fairly, so they would probably all end up as Dark-Siders eventually. Heroes again in fiction tend to be passionate, defending their 'nakama' or group etc... Such a path would lead most 'Heroes' to the Dark Side (if they had/used the Force).

The Sith code may sound appealing at first glance with its promises of freedom and power, but as many Sith themselves will tell you, it's a trap! Cue the obligatory Admiral Ackbar reference. For all their talk of freedom and power, they are actually slaves to their own emotions. The Jedi on the other hand are different, while at first glance you may think they try to suppress their emotions that is not the case, at least for the Jedi who understand nuance as some don't and do try to completely suppress their emotions like Ki-Aid-Mundi, they teach to not let you're emotions control you, emotions are apart of everyone there natural, it's not about having hatred, anger, passion, or whatever, it's what you do with them. I mean look at Obi-Wan he defiantly has hatred for Maul for what he did to Qui-Gon and Satine, but he never lets that anger consume him, but he doesn't pretend it's not there or that he doesn't still care about Qui-Gon and Satine. On Qui-Gon to Anakin in Chapter 21 of the Mircro-series, "I know. I miss him too. Not a day goes by that I don't look to his teachings for guidance." On Satine when Bo-Katan questioned if she even meant something to Obi-Wan in Clone Wars season 7, "She did. And still does. But I cannot let my emotions cloud my judgment." The Jedi are all about controlling their emotions, and trusting the Force knows what to do. Now not everyone trusts the Force, but that's okay, many people in the Galaxy just want the freedom to do their own thing, live their lives, accomplish their dreams, and be happy, and as long as they don't hurt anyone with their freedom then that's fine. The Force, despite its name, never forces its will onto others, it merely asks for permission and if it doesn't get it then it accepts because if it did force its will on others it would be no better than the Dark Side. Both the Force and the Jedi know this, and that's why they let the regular Joes just live their lives how they want, and even let Jedi leave the Order if they want to because they don't think the Jedi way is for them because they respect the freedom and happiness of all life. Whereas the Sith do not, the Sith Order doesn't just let you walk away if you want to leave, there is no real freedom, you're a slave to the Dark Side and if you want out of the Sith then you have to fight for it, because staying in this Order only leads to pain and suffering for others, the galaxy, and for the Sith themselves, it's a never-ending vicious cycle of pain and misery.

True. In KOTOR II, look no further than Darth Sion and Darth Nihilus. Darth Sion has practically become immortal simply by drawing on his pure rage and hatred to keep his broken body together. However, the net result is constant pain and agony with no sense of joy and peace in the end. Darth Nihilus is essentially a slave to his own power. He encapsulates the very nature of giving in to the Dark Side to the extreme. The more you divulge yourself into the Dark Side (much like drugs or any form of craving), you become addicted to it very quickly. In Nihilus' case, he became so addicted, he cannot control himself let alone live without his hunger.

I tend to think that the Je'dai and the Grey Jedi (none of that, "there's no such thing", they were a sensible counterweight) had a pretty good handle on it. Go with the flow of the force, but do not just blind follow it or subjugate it. Both codes, as they stand, encourage followers to make bad decisions. Especially since the light side isn't inherently good, nor is the dark alway bad. Unless you find a balance in your life and way of thinking you will fall. Whether you fall to the light or dark, you're going to be corrupted either way.

Passion is powerful, but you need to control or direct it without completely denying yourself the very thing that makes you a person. Controlled Chaos is ideal for the Force, rather than complete control or wild anandon. I much prefer the Gray philosophy. Selecting only the light or the dark will lock one out of an entire half of Force potential. Jedi are dumb. Peace through warfare while using pacifist teachings and acting outside that very teaching. Preaching enlightenment while directly furthering counterintuitive practices. Sith are stupid. Ambition running wild and completely unable to compromise, leading to infighting and self-sabotage. They corrupt and destroy everything they are and touch, and think they're gaining power and longevity. Both want stability in the galaxy, and both are bad at it.

The sith seeking freedom from the force via immortality is absolutely mad, unthought out, blind in faith, and as someone that has expertise via experience with attempting to "break one's chains", that means that (if achieved) they're running in twoards an infinite amount of the biggest regrets and most tragic disappointments they could possibly endure , all because of an grave misunderstanding of how to obtain that freedom that they so desirechie and a massive integral blind spot in their philosophy. Firstly, there is no such thing as an immortal. You may live on for trillions of eons and conquered the assimilation of quintillions all for the sake of your cause, but immortal you shan't ever be. Have a body that defies your race's typical features against your age? Sure. Stronger in the ways of the force with unparalleled grace in your mastery of it? Yeah, ok. Capable of feats that seem to have been hidden from mortals only to be used by Gods? Good for you. Whatever. But you will never. NEVER. Find satisfaction, constantly being reminded, sometimes by your very existence, that you're shackles and limitations may have loosened enough for you to be able to breathe, but yet they undoubtedly remain, antagonizing you, mocking you for all of your failured efforts to escape, to know freedom. You will always posses limits, meet new walls, face more chalenges. You will always lack enough power to be truly, valiantly, completely, inexplicably victorious. Immortality is not it. It is on fact exact, the EXACT, opposite of all you fundamentally choose to stand for at the ready all in the name of your precious freedom, blindly as can be.. Death. Death is what you seek. Should your desire for real freedom from the force and all of any influence it has that you can not, will not, shall not usurp, but will continue to prepetuate your own torture in it's subjugation over any aspect of your existence, unless you of course your path of enlightenment is found to reach completion in it's end just as you do.
