FX5800 score in quake 3 is extremely impressive, 250fps at 1280x1024x32. I remember having around 30fps at these settings on geforce 2MX.

That looks like a heatspreader on that FX card. Makes me wonder if it's possible to de-lid and give it some extra help that way? I remember lusting for an MSI FX 5900 back then, with that big flower kind of cooler they had on theirs. Especially after the hell I went through with Radeon drivers on the 9800 Pro.

Instead of using Q3 Demo for testing (which is DX8.1) , try Doom 3 instead, and then see the results. I'm sure the Radeon 9800 Pro will outperform the FX card in a real DX9 test.

В свое время 9800 грелась как печка, стоковый вообще не вытягивал, купил медный от Titan с маленькой перделкой - тоже большого толку в закрытом корпусе не было. Пришлось сгондобить процессорный от Пня 3 и вентиль 70х70 3000 оборотов, три слота холодильник занимал, зато в Фар Край нормуль на высоких пёрло.

Had a 9800 Pro in 2004/2005 and was impressed how quiet it was and how good the performance was. Really can´t remember the noise level shown in this video. But the card is almot 15 years old in the video and the fan may start to fail. Bought it just in time for the release of Far Cry. ^^ Overclocked it to 9800 XT clocks and it was running fine for months. Then suddenly it started to show graphic glitches. Lowered the clock rates back to standard and it was working fine again.

Well ,i have a mobo based on both north and south bridges from Uli, and it has socket 939, and both PCI-E and AGP8x interfaces. The model is ASROCK 939DUAL-SATA2. It is nearly working, but it hangs after memory detection. Hangs on PCIE and AGP cards in the same place, and i can't even imagine - what this problem is(((( I dream about the reparation of my perfect 939 ULI combine mobo, and i belive - one day i will find the man who can fix it.

my first computer config was radeon 9800 pro and intel dual core Q6600 at 2.4 GHZ !! later i changed card to radeon X1900 GT . AFTER THAT RADEON 3850 X2 with 2x512 mb RAM . finaly my last videocard was ASUS GTX 660 Ti DirectCU OC.... after that mainboard died and i sold all working parts !!

@@Stermy57HW No son. The deal is price brackets. Not only did the 9800XT cost a lot more than any of the other cards they were available much later. Nvidia priced their FX5950 Ultra against the 9800Pro and they traded blows with the ATI card winning in DX9 titles, the Geforce winning in OpenGL and the DX8 titles had varied results. By the time the 9800XT was cemented and available Nvidia had their 6XXX series lined up, releasing just a few months later. Spending a little more on a 6800 or a little less on a 6600GT made the 9800XT obsolete as a "new" purchase. I got a 9800XT in exchange for a Crucial 9800Pro that died prematurely. Crucial were great for the gesture but I sold the XT in the Summer of 2004 to buy a 6800XT which I unlocked with RivaTuner to a full 6800GT. No comparison, my framerate in Riddick fairly doubled in max settings with the Nvidia card.

@@TheVanillatech I'm apologize but is not true. Radeon 9800XT was released in 1 October 2003, GeForce FX5950 Ultra in 23 October 2003. So last FX flagship is 22 days younger😂 With old drivers GeForce FX win against R300 only with OpenGL engine. DX9 or below ATI was better. With later driver ATI has reached NVIDIA FX OpenGL performance. FX series was and is awful. Nowadays is interesting only for collector purpose or due to 8bit Palletized textures and table fog support with better performance than GeForce 3 or 4 with AA and AF. And last but not least: 9800XT and FX5950 Ultra are flagship. No matter different cost exist.

That fx5800 is so weird with its heatsink directly touching the memory, probably way better thermals than using a thermal pad between the memory and heatsink.

Hi! Your result in the 3DMark03 is a very low for the FX 5800. With a driver 81.98 I have ~5800 marks with the San Diego 4000+ CPU (2.4 GHz) and FX 5800 at Ultra clocks (500/500 MHz). It means that FX 5800 (400/400 MHz) must have at least 4600 3DMarks, definitely not 2600.

I used original driver from CD which is better in 3DM01. This setup is quite weak - first s754 A64 + slow chipset. So yes still I can do more points with different driver. If you watch to graphs in my other video with all R9xxx on A64 FX53 you can see right/full score with this card. Anytime you can make lot of different views and results than this :-)

i had a sapphire 9550/x1050 series 256Mb with the design of the 9800 (red pcb and square-ish heatsink) but i never found my card on the sapphire website or ati website (that design and number) in theory was not a knock off or chinese hack, was legit... (also some software seen the DDR as 2 somehow)

Why radeon9800pro fail so much? even taking extra precaution of good cooler and fan. i bought it when i was young it was working perfectly, 3 months later i left the pc on all night and in the morning pc was shut down, and would not power on. Only radeon9800pro died, other components were fine.

ATI put a shim around the gpu die that was meant to protect against cracking the die. Probably, because of all the people cracking Athlon XP chips at the time. Hpwever, a lot of these shims are taller than the chip. And at the time ATI just chose to use a thick thermal tape that was prone tp curing and becoming dry and effectively insulating the chip to a thermal death. When i came across a Radeon 9500 recently, i had to pop it open to see if it too was in this league. After scraping off the old tape and using a metal ruler as a straight edge, it seemed this one was a rare exception where the shim was the right height. But then, i found the one board that a separate hd 2600pro AGP didn't complain in, and been using that because it's faster.

It’s funny that you had two faulty 9700 pros, I had a faulty one of those cards myself, they all would cook themselves, they were much faster than the geforce fx junk up to the 5800 ultra but I hadn’t had the fx cards go bad, mostly because their fans were 100% speed and they sounded like leaf blowers, good bad design by Nvidia, no thermal throttle on Nvidia have them an edge, I had to often put new paste.

Tyto karty mam vsechny, byly vlastne uz vsechny v jinych videich. Ja jsem tam dal na srovnani tuto kartu uplne nahodne. Puvodne mel byt R9700 ale ten byl vadny. Nevim presne, s pauzama 15-18 let. Poradek +/- mam, ale stejne objevuji veci co ani nevim, ze mam :-)
