Gekhman Silver Robot ballroom Dance

Garry and Rita Gekhman, U.S. Classic Showdance Champions (also 2nd in World Showdance); exhibition by request at Ohio Star Ball 2006 = America's Ballroom Challenge 2007: "Silver" Dance (for the record: Garry and Rita NEVER claimed to be doing "The Robot", or even being robots. They just call this their Silver dance. Interpretation is up to the viewer).

I saw this live when it happened in November, 2006. I've since watched the video probably close to 100 times. And now I've been taking lessons with Rita in the past month or so and she is absolutely amazing. Some professional dancers are great at the dancing and only okay at the teaching, but Rita is phenomenal at both. Seeing this and knowing it's her is totally different than just watching some amazing "anonymous" dancer is totally different.

Fangirl moment! I’m on my couch screaming at my screen, “I know those people!” I have taken workshops with Rita and I regularly teach out of Garry’s studio- Tyson’s Ballroom. He also coaches me and my students. Garry and Rita are both amazing! Side note: the theme was to choose “an era” dance and they chose The Future. Creative right from the jump.I love this routine so much! ♥️

So glad you appreciate this! For the record, this performance predates the DWTS version (also in my collection), which was said to represent The Future. I learned to dance from Garry and Rita. Terrific people. Regards to Garry.

That was AWESOME!!! Very creative way of incorporating the streetdance culture with ballroom and other more accepted mainstream styles. I usually watch these ballroom shows on PBS and wish I had seen this before. Wonderful to hear the commentators speak so highly of this. It only HELPS the different dance communities to come together and be as UNITED as we claim to be! Great job and much success. D0C

This performance was an exhibition only. However, they did win the U.S. championship in Classic Showdance, with this dance, in Miami in 2006. They also placed second in the world in Classic Showdance with this dance in Ukraine in 2007. They were also U.S. Classic Showdance champs in 2004.
