Fabulous work! I really have to get a gelli plate soon and start learning. I'm never sure if I have the right printer though? Mine is a Brother and takes cartridges of inks in black, cyan, magenta and yellow.. I wonder if it will work. Thanks for your videos! Stay safe.

Janice, you have an inkjet and it doesn't work with this process. However you can print with your inkjet and take it to your local copy center to make photocopies. Toner based photocopies work great with this process 👍

It really depends on which gel plate I'm using, but generally with a commercial plate I use Amsterdam brand acrylics 👍

No, the print does not have to be fresh. Maybe try using a heavy body paint

I was not successfull!Please help!I used Normal white paper (used to photocopy)and my family photos were photocopied at a local printer shop.Must it be laser printed? And can I I use any kind of acrylic paint? Because the photo didn' 'stay' on the gel plate, and when I put the 2nd paper to 'catch' the photo which was supposed to be on the gel plate, Zero was printed!!What went wrong?

Sure, it could be the paints. Often, heavy body, dark paints seems to do a better job.

Yes, I also print my photos on standard printer paper. There could be many reasons why its not working and its hard to tell without seeing all the steps in the process. But try to change things around. sometimes it can be just too much or too little paint 👍

By breaking you mean it is too soft? In that case add more gelatin or reduce the amount of hot water.

Its difficult to say Dawn without seeing all the steps in your process. Try to change things around, sometimes it can be something simple like too much or too little paint.

I've been having the same issue as others. I used laser printed black and white images, and the same exact paints as shown in the video, but my printed images will not transfer to the gel. I am so frustrated. I have a laser jet printer and I made a copy of a photo on my printer and put down a thin layer of acrylic paint on my Gelli plate and pressed the laser print onto the Gelli plate and got absolutely nothing. No image at all. It just took the paint off.

That's actually quite a common problem when you start, I had the same issue. It takes time and practice to get it right, so don't give up 👍 try changing things in your process

Ok, this is driving me nuts.... HOW ?!? How does the ink go onto the gel, but all of it gets removed EXCEPT where the print from the image? Can I do this with any B/W image? Does it have to be a laser printer? I would love to make something interesting like this for family and friends, but without knowing more I am hesitant to invest any money or time. I know the science behind it isn't important for some, but I would love to know. (My brain will not rest until I understand...)

I had no success with my ink jet, so I purchased a laser printer. I used thick paint, thin paint, printers ink, nothing has worked, I'm now the proud owner of two printers which are both useless for transferring images. I also used cheap and expensive paint, nothing. I'm really upset, was so looking forward to these images. I took it the paint/ink, then or the picture face first, it never leaves an image, when I pull away the paper the whole image is removed, there's nothing left on the gelli plate.

Hi Tapi, I understand how it can be frustrating and my advice is to do it step by step, change things around in your process, and remember it takes time and practice to figure it out. In fact it took me around a month to develop this process 😅

There could be a few different reasons. It depends a lot on paint type (dark colors, heavy body often work better), amount of paint and pressure. You need to play around with different combinations until you get it to work. It's not a difficult process but it take some practice (and patience) to get it right. I hope this helps 😀
