Every time I hear the Lost Dog SB.. I go back to my days in Martin County and Inez when I had to cross the river between Beauty and Lovely on that one lane bridge to go to work at the mine in Mingo up Marrow Bone. It was around 75.. 76.. I was always stoned.. and there was a tavern where this old girl made cherry pies. I'd just buy me a whole pie and listen to them hill jacks play while I ate. It was a scream and the corn liquor was the best you ever had. They say when you die.. you go back to the times when you were the happiest. If that's true.. I'll be back up that holler again. I was sitting here listening trying to figure out the cords by ear. First I thought it was in G straight to Am. But if you listen to the changes it sounds like rhythm in the cord of C. C then Em I believe then bounces between G and C with the occasional F toward the end of the verse. Not had a chance to try and play it yet but I feel like that should be pretty close. Could also be an Am instead of Em. Ben playing this definitely gives it incredible drive. Ben is a Hell of a rhythm player. As well as Matt sawing the shit outta that fiddle!

Amazing performer, one of the few people that sounds even better live. The recording doesn’t do his voice justice, he has an incredible bellowing sound. That and seeing Matt playing the fiddle live is a real show

Saw Matt open for Lost Dog Saturday 9/8 @ the Bottleneck in Lawrence, Ks. He killed every song he played, even the on the banjo. Never got a chance to meet him throughout the night. But what made my night was running into Ben and Ashley around town before the show started and getting the opportunity to meet two talented individuals face to face and they were so kind for taking the time to stop their tour of the town to bullshit with some fans. Hopefully we didn’t scare ya away from Lawrence forever. From the bottom of my heart thank you guys for not letting folk die. Sincerely, the guys you met on the down the street from the venue(glasses guy and brother with face tats). Oh and I can’t forget running into the great banjo player Patrick Watt!!!

There is another version of this song, that Katie-Belle Van Zandt filmed, with Matt sitting on the hood of the red truck that is visible for quick moment in the beginning of this film... I am filmed guessing at the same place, different time....there are far more leaves on the trees in this film... What a place steeped in Outlaw Folk Music history .. Absolutely fitting to have these two team up for a song there... I am hoping maybe you have recorded one of Ben's songs that they sang this day , still to be released?? please say it's so... please..

haha.. No No.. You are the Sensai, I am but the Grasshopper. Sometimes I get a little self conscious about leaving long comments on all of your videos....but I just can't help it.. And believe me when I tell you that each long comment is the abridged and edited version. I have become quite obsessed with listening to as much of this music as possible and learning about the artists and the history of this music.. I have found your channel to a be a very important avenue through the different suburbs of 'Americana town'. Definitely one the most most happening avenues through the darker side of town to be sure!! Or maybe to expand on the theme, it is an avenue through an outlying region, in the woody hills, where folk live in shacks, punks play banjos and sing about dope sickness and unrequited love, while rockin' in a red chair drinking mash and smokin' something in a pipe. there we go, doing it again, long comments... I just can't help myself... Thanks for all your good work Anthony... If the Australian Dollar was actually worth anything I would willingly and lovingly make a contribution to the channel.. As it stands however, I am time wealthy but coin poor, and any dollar I gave would only be worth 70 cents to you. SO my contribution at moment will just have to be my 2 cents worth of comments...!! [that's 1.4 cents after conversion to USD though] Looking forward to the aforementioned track with gleeful anticipation.
