Awesome video, thanks for sharing!!! Ive been looking into silversmithing and recently discovered metal clay!!!!! You can get this crazy clay in precious and non precious metal. There is a silver clay that you can set with just a blow torch, the others you need a kiln to fire it. Once the clay has been fired it can then be worked as a metal.

I wanted as I see Off Ya Rocka already has written, tell you about Silver Metal Clay. It can be fired with cz's and sapphires and diamonds with not so much inclusions. But you can easiliy build up your setting by pressning the stone into the clay, moving around just a little to cover up for the ~10% shrinkage. When the basic shape is done and the clay is dry you can carve out prongs if you like using a small carving tool. You can combine with a thin brush adding a small amont of water making the carving easier and/or to smooth the surface. In silver clay you can add wet clay on dry continue to build up a design. It must be completly dry before firing. It is better to make it a bit to small than big. You can mill the setting after it is fired and polish before you set the stone. Fine silver (999/1000) is a bit weak, but can be work hardend a night in a rotary thumbler. I like the look of your setting, but such a nice stone is worth at least a silver clay setting. 😍

I watch Tims adventures and was curious about what he calls duds can they be cut or there no value. Also his spinals. He doesn't appear to give them much value

I asked him a while ago and he hadn't decided. I have cut Victorian and Tasmanian black spinels, nice but are opaque. But a magnificent polish, I cut them in rosettes, came out nice.

You can cut duds, but they don’t look like much, so little value unless you like ripping suckers off on eBay, lol. Black spinel can cut a neat stone, but opaque, and typically small, so low value compared to the reds and blues.
