Unless you actually heard it explained from the writer or writers of it then a lot of times their okay with people having their own opinions about songs. I haven’t heard much about the band just that this was their biggest hit. The group broke up after the release of the album and there was some dispute over rights that was resolved but not without having hurting the chances of the band success.

"The Bop" was the name of a dance craze in the 1950s. As I recall, term "be-bop" (when it comes to music) originated with the jazz musicians, probably circa 1940s. It migrated into the early 1950s-60s rock-n-roll song titles like "Be-bop-a-Lula", "Be-bop-Baby", and into the lyrics of "Doo-Wop" songs with background fills like "Bop-bop-a-shoo-bop, Bop-a-shoo-bop".
