Let's be honest, thats because he's the exception that proves the rule. Mass shootings are common in this country, and the fact that one shooting among dozens ended with the shooter killed by a legal gun carrier proves basically nothing. The argument that "A bad guy with a gun can only be stopped by a good guy with a gun" only has supporting evidence if you include the shooters themselves as "good guys," since most shootings only end when the shooter kills themself.

Someone on another video left a comment which is disturbingly relevant to men who are unsuccessful and single - to paraphrase, 'the next warm embrace these men felt since they left their mothers arms as a child is the warm embrace of a rope'. Chilling but there are far more men who commit violence against themselves as opposed to others. We only ever focus on the worst, not the many others who tragically take their own lives or live a life of depression.

@@sleepyproduction7166 You know, in most of the civilized world, bad parenting just results in asshole kids who usually get ran over by life itself later on but they aren't an actual threat usually, but if yours is one of the very few places where bad parenting ends in mass shooters, maybe there are some other factors going on, like God forgive, easy to access guns that enables mass shootings.

@gabrokkerhun
@gabrokkerhun Жыл бұрын
@@f145hr3831jr Bomb attacks, especially successful ones, are notoriously hard to pull off, even terrorists who are more than qualified to carry them out will usually opt for other options and knives... don't think you're reaching when you're equating knife attacks to mass shootings? Come on now. You should strive for a healthy middle ground, American society is a mess so unlike in most civil places, even Austrian or French type of restrictions might be too much, but it's also very clear that the current setup is an unworkable catastrophe that spits out tragedies on a weekly basis the likes of which are once in a decade occurence in the rest of the 1st world. You shouldn't be digging into an extremist untenable position the same way gun grabbers do so.
@verindictus3639
@verindictus3639 Жыл бұрын
@@gabrokkerhun, I dunno, there are certainly parts of the world where bomb attacks are very popular. The US has had gun rights for centuries, with the laws being less restrictive in the past than now. But mass shootings only became common within the last half-century. It isn't just the prevalence of guns. Frankly, I blame gun-free zones. Almost all mass shootings in the west happen in "gun-free" zones. You can't deprive people of guns in the US, you can only ask them to not take guns into certain areas. But that doesn't keep criminals from bringing guns into those same areas, so "gun-free" zones are basically just "prime mass shooter target" zones that ensure civilians are defenseless against these types of attacks. End gun-free zones, and mass shooters have no place where they can be sure their victims won't kill them as soon as they start. And while the rest of the west may have fewer mass shootings, the ongoing threat of violent criminals and the fact that the governments are so brazen about violating their citizens' rights - and our own governments brazen, if lesser, attempts here - makes me think the current setup is better, for all its severe flaws.

I would argue that the whole issue with mass shootings is a result of three things: 1. The tearing down of the family structure. 2. The closure of dedicated mental health facilities. And 3. The rise of the 24hr News. The reason I say this is because, as we all know, most, if not all, of these shooters come from troubled or broken homes, all of them were severely mentally unstable, and they know that their names will be on the lips of talking heads for weeks. And their choice of targets guarantee that what they do will be all over the news.

One observation i did do myself recently. So a friend of mine, started to talk about some issues he has with two trans people who are part of his DnD group. Talking to him it becomes VERY apparent that both of these trans individuals has mental problems that goes FAR beyond merely being trans. I myself have background in psychology and I couldn't help but point out, that what people like those needs the most... is structure. They need a secure, structural day. This would be the most important thing for their mental health at that state. At a place where they will know what to expect and how to handle what is coming. But as they have been involved in the trans community, they have entered the community that is deliberately tearing down structures or any sense of security. It's the very people who needs these things the most, who enters spaces that deliberately works against that. The destruction of structure and expectations is in fact, really really bad for people with mental health problems, that's the OPPOSITE of what they need. And we can clearly see that all of these young people clearly lacked structure and security in their lives, all sense of tradition has been broken down, they have no idea where they are going, or how they are supposed to behave. This is REALLY bad for vulnerable people with mental health problems. So yeah... the best thing you can do for ALL of these people... Is indeed to re-introduce structure and set firm rules of what is to be expected or not expected.

@@chillstoneblakeblast3172 It's knowing exactly how your day is going to play out, what you are supposed to do, and what the rules are at your current place. Knowing what meal you're going to have and when knowing what responses will be the consequences of your actions. And yeah, though these people won't be able to take on a very hard job when being like that. Just having some resemblance of a goal and an idea of what exactly they are supposed to do doing the day while feeling like they helped with something, has proven itself very beneficial. So while they may not believe it, simple labor for a couple of hours a day would benefit many of these people a lot. Things you won't have to think too much about doing, but make you physically active. Such as laying bricks or cleaning windows or flipping burgers in the back would most likely be beneficial for these kinds of people. I will though say out of your two examples, the Christian lifestyle has the most structure as they don't change the rules and you know what to expect and what gets you punished and what gets you rewarded. Social justice changes the rules ALL the time so you NEVER know what to expect nor what the response to comments will be, which is extremely stress-inducing and bad for mental health.

Forgive me for not having the exact source, it was over a decade ago when I did this, and I lost that laptop about seven years ago, but there was a study in the 1990s that strongly suggested that the more you affiliated someone with a specific kind of group, the more they themselves affiliated with the group. This became especially strong when societies and cultures did it. When African Americans are affiliated with gangs, the only group that accepts them are gangs. When societies affiliate Muslims with Islamic extremist terrorist, they are more likely to join them. Look at what some of the people who joined ISIS had to say before they made the decision to head to Syria. Look at interviews with the likes of Wayne Brady and Dave Chappelle. Aside from their parents, the group most strongly opposed to them joining the gangs were gang members themselves. What am I getting at? When I was growing up in the 1990s, white nationalism was considered, by and large, a thing of the past and you were the crazy fringe dude if you thought any of that stupid stuff. It was dead and buried. Then it became the normal way of thinking that "white people were rasist" in college. Then that was how white kids were labelled in high school. Put bluntly, if labelling African Americans as gang members is bad expressly because it could lead them toward gangs and the same goes for Muslims and Islamic terrorism, then why are we doing it with white men and rasism, but expecting different results? Now, add in the fact that we know that broken homes cause increased criminality, bullying, and anti-social behaviors (and are well aware that divorce, irresponsible parenting, and the like are on the rise...a discussion for another time), and that gun-free zones are most likely to be targeted by mass shooters but are increasing in number, why are people in anyway surprised at what is happening? Is it sad? Absolutely. But if you have been reading the book society has been writing for the last fifty years, you saw the final chapter coming for almost 20 years. Society allowing the family unit's collapse, encouraging racial division, slapping labels on people based on immutable characteristics (yes, both sides do it), and so forth, are the problem, NOT guns.

In some things the left is 100% right and in others the right is 100% correct. In the T argument, Transitioning as medical procedure (contrary to just a lifestyle choice) is completely wrong, as suicidical ideation rates simply dont lower post transition, and attempts at making it mainstream only makes the quantity of potential victims that much higher. In literally no other mental illness we ever enable and reaffirm the mental illness, much less with surgery. Transition should only ever be available to mentally stable individuals, not to people with a dysphoria coaxing them into accepting ANY solution. So yes, as things have gotten massively worse in terms of teacher, media and social media grooming, Jordan Peterson took the very difficult decision to spearhead the battle against this dragon. There is no valud argument for banning guns in the US. The 2nd amendment is quite clear. The right to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. Keeping that in mind, Dev is correct about wanting a responsibly armed populus. This is something the right overwhelmingly agreed with you on. So much so that back when the right held more cultural sway (and in areas where they still do), firearm safety and proper procedure was/is taught largely from a very young age, and even in schools in many areas. People who grow up knowing proper gun safety and how to use it are people like Dicken. So with those things in mind, shouldn't the idea to be to bring back more widespread courses on proper firearm use and safety like was so common in decades past? Anything less seems to only make this problem much worse. This sort of thing was far rarer back then (it also has to do with the breakup of the family causing more deranged and mentally ill people, which fuels both mass shootings in this context and the gang shootings which make up the majority of gun violence in the US. Seriously, look at crime statistics before and after the welfare state, particularly in black majority areas). We already know how to curb this problem. As for my part I'm not sure which is better, we first have to figure out genuine causes. If it's the lack of connection causing it then yeah a little human contact will do wonders, but if there's something deeper and more nefarious polluting the psyche at large then forming large social groups with immutable dogma and intense in-group preference will only exacerbate the issues we have at hand. It may actually be healthier for society at large for these folks to be off on their own as an atomized individual.

Avoiding saying their name won’t change anything, because it’s our nature to pay attention to tragedy, the ones who were victimised and the ones who perpetrated it. Instead I think we should be helping these kids. I don’t believe they’re just random psychopaths, I think most of them are people that, because of a tough childhood and being always treated like shit for one reason or another, they got so black pilled that they decided not only it would be a good thing to end their own life, but to bring to the grave with them as many people as possible, as an act of revenge on life itself, as a “fuck you” to all the people that live happy lives and are ignorant of their pain. They are monsters, but let’s not pretend that the same monster doesn’t live inside each of us. Elisjsha did a great job by killing the guy, but I can’t help imagining a different universe, in which no one in that mall had to die because the shooter got the help that he needed to turn his life around

The moment you take your first innocent life you cross the threshold from mentally ill individual to fuckhead. Spreading the name of these nihilists is exactly what they want. They want to go out killing a bunch of people before committing suicide by cop so they can get their name plastered on the five-o-clock news. Instead of giving the fuckheads what they want we should instead focus on the victims and their families and in the cases like this the absolute CHADs who put the rabid dog down before it can hurt more people. You can say we need to focus more on the people on the social fringes and I agree with you, but don’t propagate the legend of a piece of shit in the process.

So much agree with you, here is where the "enlightened centrism" meme gets stupid, Dev is so obviously trying to keep appealing to his T friend(s) and audience. People need to understand that you simply can't negotiate and compromide with extremists.

Condemn me for what I'm saying, but understand that in no way do I advocate for this. There's nothing you can do to stop these, because the way to stop them is to treat people better in general and we're not going to even attempt that as a culture. Whether or not it's wrong for people to lash out like this (it is, severely), none of the reasons that we have for condemning these actions matter to the people committing them, and nothing you can do can make them matter to these people. They're not considering what we see as reasonable and they're specifically not doing it because that's the treatment they perceived themselves to have received. The only way to stop any shooter that isn't motivated by extreme mental illness to the point of cognizant disconnection from reality is to, for once, relate to them and make them feel like someone actually gives a shit about them. If we can't be bothered to give a shit about each other I don't really see any good reason why they wouldn't.

The kid didn't deserve that life, and he chose to take monstrously evil action in retaliation against it. He deserved his fate at the end, but the failure of the shooter's life wasn't solely his own - community, family, and every social structure in place let him slip through the cracks.

I've been binging on Thomas Sowell lately. He has one bit where he talks about the business of crime. Giving home robberies as an example, he noted that criminals in the UK and Canada are statistically much more likely to break into the premises when the owners are home than they are in the US. He asserts that most criminals actually do think logically, and realize the inherently higher risks involved with invading a home where the occupants are more likely to be armed. One of the benefits of selective service was that every able bodied man was taught how to responsibly use a firearm. Not that I support a draft, but you can't deny the benefits of having a large number of armed and trained civilians. See the Swiss as an example. I guess the only reason the government would oppose this is if they also happen to be the criminals and/or invading force. It's frankly absurd that our society hasn't enshrined self-defense as a fundamental human right. Crazier still that there are so many people who think you should not have this right.

This seems like a good video to ask something that I've wondered about for years now. Can suicide be a good thing? Murder is sometimes justified if only committed in defense of another or in defense of the self. Therefore suicide as well must also be justifiable, sometimes. That's only fair. Once on Twitter, I caught a glimpse of the conversation around suicide change. Someone had posed something dark and was surrounded by "it gets better" messages, except for some. It was that old "imagine that you haven't read your favorite book yet" style of message. The responding sentiment was: "imagine telling someone who wants to die to just consoom more product" So if another person from another broken home who lived a broken life instead simply turned one of the guns on himself and ended his own life, would that also have been heroic, knowing the damage he could've done to others if he hadn't? Because despite all the hotlines and friends in the world, nothing can stop a person from just jumping/hanging/shooting themselves *anyway* making suicide ultimately unpreventable. What would the criteria for a justified suicide be? How would you recognize it? Is this even possible?

I dunno. All of these shootings I've heard about since way back when Columbine happened makes me think there's got to be something else going on more than "Person with terrible life that thinks he's hopeless decides to go on a shooting spree because they want to die and be famous." There's got to be some aspect to them that isn't readily apparent. They have to know by now that whatever fame they get nowadays is very fleeting. If there was some sort of religious or political motivation behind these shootings I could see that being a big factor, but most don't have that. I honestly can't think of what it may be and I'd prefer not to entertain any Alex Jones type of ideas but it really feels like somethings missing from the reason why so many people are choosing to do it.

Hate to break it to people, but the lack of access to firearms wouldn't stop any of this. They would just use other tools, because that is all a weapon system like a firearm is, it's a tool. They would either use a car, knives, or even improvised explosive devices etc. Doesn't take anything close to a genius to make devices that do horrible things. Used to see them daily and they could set them off with a dead battery even. Ask the uk. They can't even buy knives with tips on them anymore but there are more stabbings than ever. The point is the people in charge don't want to talk about the actual problems that cause these things because they are uncomfortable and take alot of work. They are in it for the easy money not to actually work hard.
