Jen dives into the hot topic of gender roles. Does it matter if moms stay home with their kids, or which household chores husbands and wives do? She offers her take. She also points out that you’ll never keep up with a habit that requires a lot of willpower.

Can Jen run a women's retreat please. I will go. I don't care where it is, I'll be there.

Long time listener and first time commentor! I grew up in the Catholic ghetto with my dad as the homemaker and my mom a doctor with her own practice so this hit hard. My whole childhood was people telling me my parents were wrong and yet daily seeing how well it worked for my family and the joys it brought us. My dad and I are now avid listeners and I just gave him my copy of Your Blue Flame to help navigate his changing role as my siblings and I grow up. I don't have iTunes but if I did this would be my review. Jen's podcast has been there for me when I had to cancel my big wedding because of Covid. She was there with me when I moved across the country during the pandemic and she was there with me when I moved across the country again one year later. I have laughed, cried, and then laughed again while listening to this podcast as Jen always seems to speak the words sitting on my heart. She gave me the inspiration to dive in and set up a village when my husband and I finally settled in Austin and it was that village that has supported us through the birth of our first child. I'm excited to keep building my village and hope to one day run into Jen at HEB but let's be real she will be in curbside pick-up because grocery shopping is better outsourced!

Jen, when you finally make that podcast on the dystopian trajectory of our current secular culture's attitude towards maternity, I'm HERE 👏 FOR 👏 IT 👏! Also, new game for alcohol super fans: take a drink every time Jen says "podcast bro"! 🤣🥂

I loved listening to your thoughts on gender roles in the home. Thank you!!! I wonder if sometimes, a factor that contributes to the problem of women thinking they "need" to meet a certain image of "what a mom does" is uncertainty or fear about what they actually want to do in life. If a woman is afraid to dream big about her passion projects (because it's daunting, because she might fail, etc.), it can certainly feel way easier/more comfortable to not even try to pursue those and instead seek to fit into a certain role that may not be something she actually desires or feels called to do 24/7 (ie: playing dress-up with their kids for hours on end. I know some women love this, but not all women, and that's OK!).

My husband swears by atomic habits and it works for him because he’s very structured. I’m a much more flexible, easygoing person and adapt quickly to every situation. It’s just a matter of personality and character. Love your show!! ❤

My motivation or pleasure to get my ass to the gym is listen to a good podcast, like yours, or being immerse into a good audio book. It is very rarely about the workout and more about a quiet hour immersing myself in a good book.

I feel about astrology the same way I feel about personality labels--perhaps most people with the same sign are similar, but we can't define people by that. One of my friends immediately when she talks about someone she just met will spurt out the 4 letters she feels is their personality type. People are so much more than those 4 letters and we can't define people by that. The great thing that, both before and after my mom left, I grew up never being told "as a girl, you can do anything." It was just a "you can do anything you put your mind to," which my brother was also told. When I had interest in math, I wasn't told "we need more girls, go you!" My teachers just encouraged me. When I got into LEGOs and jigsaw puzzles and video games, my dad would get me sets or games I was interested in (though someone else got me a Final Fantasy game that featured all girls because they thought that an all female game would intrigue me when all I wanted to do was stab monsters with characters who didn't dress skanky). So yes, a lack of focus on gendered roles or interests is a great way to grow up!

Jen have you ever looked into ADHD? I have AuDHD and your approach to the whole habit thing is super relatable BUT it makes me wonder if it’s particularly relatable to me as a neurodivergent? I feel like neurotypical people tend to form habits more easily than me. You also mentioned that you hyperfocus. Just wondering

love your podcast 💝 it gives me so much energy 😊 just one remark: being catholic doesn't exclude being interested into astrology at all. of course you shouldn't rely on it like you rely on god, but take the holy three kings for example. one of them was an astrologist 😊 there was a three part conjuction of jupiter and saturn in pisces which led them to baby jesus 😊

also she (the first tiktok lady) meant capricorn in venus. you probably don't have capricorn in venus, it is just your sun sign.

I think you are confusing astronomy with astrology. Astrology is new age and against the faith. But astronomy is completely fine 🙂 which is what her and her father studied together.

Yeah, especially with how the stars have shifted since the astrological signs were named and the dates are all different from then. 🤣

i'm not confusing it, don't worry 😊 astrology is the interpretation of stellar constelations. and you need some basic astronomical knowledge for astrology
