They’re breaking the 180 degree rule. The guest camera needs to be on the opposite side, but then it would probably be in the way of the full studio shot camera, so then the full shot camera would need to be on the opposite side of the room, but then it wouldn’t be facing the set or the participants. What a bad set up.

The Richard Simmons reference had me rolling.. The reason being, my father who is not particularly aware of popular music of the last 50 years would attend the NAMM show each year with his company that imported pianos from Europe into the USA. One year a television producer approached him and said that they were filming a reality tv show and Gene Simmons wanted to be filmed playing one of their pianos at their booth. They asked him if he was familiar with Gene Simmons and he responded “Is that Richard’s brother?” He came in with his son and played one of their pianos as I saw a picture but seeing the show air Family Jewels it apparently hit the cutting room floor as they did air a segment of him and his son walking around NAMM that year.

Great interview and so was Paul’s. Two very different personalities that work and work well. They brought us entertainment based concerts and the hair band. Wannabe purists tend to talk down about KISS and their music abilities. KISS’ priority was a show, party and a good time. All of my kids first concert was KISS. I made my oldest son a Gene Simmons costume including 3inch heals, for him to go 2 his first KISS concert when he was 9yo. He was photographed by everyone including celebrities and appears on a poster inside one of the KISS albums “Alive IV KISS Symphony”(he’s next to the KISS emblem) On the next tour at 11yo he was front row and taken up on stage by “Machine Gun Fellatio” (support act) at the Rob Laver Arena in Melbourne in front of 14,000 KISS fans & they called him “Little Gene” he became a little star & could not walk more than 5ft at concerts without fans stopping to take photos with hun. My daughter was 5yo and was in a FULL Paul Stanley costume with 2inch heals. He was now known as “little Gene” & was asked to make appearances in his costume for fan memorabilia swaps in Melbourne. He ended up on the front page of our local newspaper in full makeup & costume. The Day Kiss arrived in Melbourne we spent the day at Crown Casino walking around in heals & costume my 5yo daughter also in her full Paul costume with 2inch heals & they got to meet Eric Singer and Tommy Thayer who were both AMAZING!! They stopped to have their photo taken with them & sign merchandise. Gene had not arrived in Melbourne yet, but my son had previously got to meet Gene at the “speaking in tongues” concern Gene did in Melbourne. Unfortunately Paul wasn’t as willing to stop & meet the kids at Crown casino but he did stop & wave at them. So by 11yo my son had met most of his favourite band, met his hero & dressed up as him. He had been on their stage & appeared on a poster inside one of their album covers & spent 4 days in a row in costume to meet them & attended all 3 nights of the tour. He had also appeared on the front page of the local paper in the makeup & costume. To this day my family are still HUGE fans and my daughter (now 24yo) attended their last concert here in australia 2nights ago!! Wish I could attach the pics of them in costume on here! 😄

Gene speaks the truth. I'm not an egotistical person, but I learned guitar, and bass, drums, and other instruments, by watching and practicing. I'm a multi-instrumental musician. I can play any lead guitar or bass solos, correctly, by watching a couple times. And I do not read music. I do not feel comfortable playing to an audience, I do it for myself. I guess you can call me hidden talent. But my point is, I agree with Gene, there are many famous artists, like Gene, that have no formal training, they are the chosen ones.

That's not exactly any news. Known for decades, and Gene agrees (the closest you'll ever get a regret from Gene I guess). The thing is that KISS has never been 'Gene and Paul writing songs together', in fact they didn't write more than 7 songs together from the first album up to Destroyer, and then not a single song until The Elder. They have written less than 20 songs together, and the album they wrote most songs together was Monster (!) with 5. Also after the Love Gun tour/Alive 2, KISS isn't really a group anymore. Lots of hired hands, studio musicians and Paul/Gene/Ace sitting in separate studios writing and recording songs. On the other hand: Gene has been the main man latest years since Paul can't do high pitch anymore. Way more singing for Gene live.

Glad I kept watching after the sssssttttttooooorrrryyyy (man that took long). Funny though, yes, I sing in the shower. I have many "songs" I "wrote." Lol. Music is in my veins somewhere. But it is funny to me because I know that even though I can sing and play instruments a little I've always felt I could be a songwriter. So, pun intended, that part struck a chord with me. Thanks you all. Keep up the good work. EDIT. did not know all that info about War Machine!

I got a lil chocked up. Just a lil. Hahaha When Gene did! On you interview. Cause of after working, well over 250 major concerts. For bands like KISS AC/DC Aerosmith Alice Cooper Cher Motley Crue Poison Def Leppard & many many more bands. As 1 of 100. But! 3 concerts later. For the, 1996 KISS Alive World Wide Tour Concert. At Saskatchewan Place Canada. I was now. 1 of 150 Local Concert Working Crew. + I was also. 1 of only 8 Local Concert Show Call Stage Hand Working Crew. & after being asked. To work w the KISS Sign. I was also asked. To help set up. Peter Criss' pearl drum set. In a real funny way. & later/early evening. After I was all done. Working Show Call. By removing, the opening act's band gear. I was then asked. To work w Gene Simmons. & w Gene's roadie. During the KISS Concert. & when we had Gene back stage. On Gene's mini break. I did a big! Big! Big! Big! Big! No! No! & no no! That I could easily been fired for. But instead. Gene took it. As a god thing. So cause of that! Instead of being fired! I was instead rewarded by Gene Simmons. That I'm the only! Local Working Stage Hand ever! To ever get! The leftover contents. From Gene Simmons' mini cooler. & I was told again in 2013/14. That no one! No one before 1996. & no one after 1996. Has ever had. The honor! Of receiving! The left over contents. From Gene Simmons' mini cooler. & all because! I did a big! Big! Big! Big! Big! Big! No! No! & I reminded Gene, of that. On 2022-12-10. When I met up w Gene. In Saskatoon Canada. & the story. Of that whole day. Is one very different. But very cool story. When I made KISStory! & if you'd like, to hear. The whole KISStory. Message Ross Rowlett on facebook. & ask away, Jacqueline & Howie. & I will tell you. A way way too funny KISStory! + If I remember correctly. My sister used to bring up. That fact. That my sister & I. Went to high school. With Shannon & Tracey Tweed. & we'd meet up. Before 1st bell. Most every high school morning. As I kind of remember. We were watching Thrill Of A Lifetime. & they announced if I remember correctly. They said Shannon Tweed. Was from Toronto Ontario. I do remember that! When my sister told the tv. That Shannon's from Saskatoon! Haha + I've stayed in. Tracey Tweed's home. In Saskatoon Canada. As a girlfriend of mine. Actually owns it. Hahaha. Great Show! Jacqueline & Howie & Gene.😇😀😃😄😁😆😅🙃🙂😂🤣

I had the honor of serving him dinner before a concert. He ordered a giant bowl of 3 different kinds of cereal, but one had to be shredded wheat, with skim milk and ice and the biggest spoon I could find. I thought he was joking. When I put it in front of him he grabbed my arm, pulled me closer to his face and said "tell me a Michael Jackson joke". Growing up a Kiss fan, it was the best/craziest experience I never thought I'd have. All my other coworkers at the hotel were saying how rude he was. They just didn't know him. I got fist bumped multiple times and before he left he told me I'm a wonderful human and never change.

9:28 As an East Coast Canadian myself, it's hard to imagine Gene in rural Newfoundland. And, trust me, he'd meet people there who wouldn't know him from Adam. He wouldn't be able to understand 50%, or more, of what some people were saying. Some of those cats are comparable to Brad Pitt's character in the movie Snatch. 😂

Howie - like the podcast with the great guests and stories, but PLEASE stop interrupting them and changing the subject so often that it ends up meandering. It's frustrating!

Merv wrote, and gave our city a Christmas song for our Christmas parade. He was working in Superior, Wisc., And my city was Duluth, Mn., which was across the bridge. To this day that song is sung every year, at the Christmas parade, or adverts for the parade, and sung by his voice.
