Nice work. I have a 22KW in Florida. A couple weekends ago I noticed a Tstat was off. Checked the float switch, low voltage fuse all good. I have no incoming 240. Breaker isn't tripped. Removed the panel cover and I have 240 at the breaker. I was stumped. Did a rat eat the wires in my attic but not short them? I had continuity back to the air handler so not that. Maybe the breaker can't carry current? I'm pulling at imaginary straws at this point. On the way to pick up a breaker I remembered the A/C's have load sheds. Sure enough the light is out on one of them. I bypassed it and we have power again. Turns out the Generac load sheds have known bad boards. The old ones are green. New boards are blue. The other thing that through me off was when I checked the contactor in the load shed it was pulled in. I am used to A/C contactors being pulled in to close. This is relaxed when closed. A bad board pulls them in to open. Learn something new everyday. They replaced the bad board under warranty so all back to normal.

Ron, great work, as always. I feel you about the engine part - my mechanic skills end at changing oil 😄Looking forward to part 2. And, a separate thank-you for all the time you spend filming and editing. I know what kind of pain it is. Sometimes it takes me more time to edit the video than the actual work itself. Thank you, thank you for that also.

Hey Ron, God bless you man, great videos. Help I have an issue with a generator with the battery because it is always dead I was reading about a neutral jumper there is no clear information. What I can do, thanks.
@electricianron_New_JerseyАй бұрын
The neutral jumper is for new units. If your generator is at least a year old you likely don't have need for a neutral but you should have T1 supplying 120 volts to charge the battery. That's what T1 is for.

Love your work, I’m electrician in Minnesota. Is SE cable rated for direct burial?
@rupe5311 ай бұрын
standard SE cable is NOT rated for direct burial. The stuff he is using here is available through Generac and is UL listed for just about anything, although not cheap. You make up the price difference because you don't have to run more conduit to satisfy code on low / line voltage in the same pipe.
@jessemackenzie651611 ай бұрын
Its not SE. Its TC specially made for Generac. It has N1, N2 ( sensing) 23 , 194 and T1. plus the feeders .Eventually they will be adding a neutral conductor to pair with t1 to satisfy the code.
@rupe5311 ай бұрын
@@jessemackenzie6516 good point about adding that extra neutral, even though that's splitting hairs. Of course, that means adding another connection in the terminal block. The bean counters will all have their panties in a bunch over that!
@GentechNorthwest-ue4oq2 ай бұрын
@@jessemackenzie6516 check with the supplier. They should have a cut sheet for you. That’s all you need to show the inspector.

Nice video Ron, who does the generator pad and platform? Is that usually the electricians job or does a GC handle that or homeowner? Are poured concrete pads the best or do you get the pre-made ones that you just lay down?
@electricianron_New_Jersey11 ай бұрын
It's really up to whoever owns the generator. I've done them in the past and I think they're really nice. A precast concrete pad direct from Generac is also a nice option.

I’m assuming you know these customers to take on a job out of NJ? Nice work Ron, and appreciate knowing your limitations. I never understood electricians having to repair gas engines in these units. @@electricianron_New_Jersey that’s what I meant. Just strange that they core drilled the foundation wall. We stay above grade to prevent any damage to the water barrier below grade.
