Tried it out. There is a new version of the script. Did not seem to work very well. I will try again later. Your work looks great. Thanks for your hard work putting the video together.

Thanks. There seems to be some general gremlins in the latest release of PI, hopefully it’s sorted nice and quick.

Interesting video thanks! But I think it would be better to put the Pixinsight window to fullscreen. It is hard to see what You are doing. The camera showing You at this point is not so helpfull. But again thanks for the tutorial.

I agree. I’ve been trying a few things the last few videos to see what I like and don’t like. I think back to basic is best.

Perfect looking forward to the next video. Had you split the channels and only working on the Ha ? Also is this used on a linear or Non Linear image ?
@PaulymanAstro
@PaulymanAstro 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks mate. The tool can be used on linear or nonlinear data. I am using it mostly for my initial stretch at the moment and still learning how to refine that on the nonlinear image. This example was only from my Ha data. The tool will happily work on colour data though.

Thank you for this tutorial. I read the thread on SGL from the person who wrote this script & as i'm still pretty new with PI it all went a little over my head. This video has really helped me understand the basics of how it works. I've added the script to PI & had a quick experiment with one of my images & the flexibility of this script is so much better than PI's HistogramTransformation. I look forward to your follow on video. I've also subscribed to your channel.

Thanks @paulyman Awesome vis and amazing content as usual - would be great if you could make a follow up vid outlining the recent updates to the GHS script to highlighting the changes. Would be most welcome!

Thanks. A follow up video is definitely on the cards, the new process is pretty slick although the script still feels more immersive to me with everything in the one window.

Mind Blowing actually! this video is a turning point in my processing understanding. One doubt comes in my mind: When working with mono cameras, do you combine the RGB channels before using this method? Then the luminance, how do you match de stretchs so they dont get too discrepant? Thanks!
@PaulymanAstro
@PaulymanAstro 2 жыл бұрын
I used the latest version in my Lagoon nebula speed run. I did exactly as you say, I combined my RGB channels while Linear and stretched the RGB using GHS, I compared the standard RGB stretch to the new Color stretch, which is the GHS version of ArcSinh stretching. I preferred the standard stretch for my data. I worked on the luminance separately and stretched in GHS. The great thing about this tool is how mathematically precise it is and the live preview allows you to view your stretches, you can also select specific regions of your image to see the resulting k values. So can very accurately match backgrounds or specific regions of the nebulosity using stretches.

Like others I have tried this version 2.2 I can’t seem to get the data to stretch. Yes the peak moves but the data within is not stretching it much at all not sure what I am doing wrong.
@PaulymanAstro
@PaulymanAstro 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Simon. The first thing that comes to mind to ask would be whether you are finalising the stretch by pressing the green tick? When you are working within the script the live preview in the window will update but nothing happens to your actual data until you finalise the stretch.

Thanks for the very interesting tutorial. My only criticism is that the PI screen it a little bit too small compared to the full screen we see. Considering most of the tutorial shows your profile, perhaps it could be removed and put back when you look at the camera.

Thanks for the detailed comment. I absolutely agree and since this video have adjusted how I present PI on screen. It now is centre stage with me minimised on the screen off to one corner.

I may be wrong, but when you are doing the preview at the end, the input box is still selected and it seems that the preview is still using the last value. You need to click away from the input box to apply it. eg, when you change from .7 to .5, the preview still shows .7 (you can also tell because when you hit the preview button the console doesn't open up on the left hand side to show its processing).
