there's a mod that solves no borrowing and suicidal ai offense in this patch: it simply makes defensive wins no longer reoccupy captured territory. This actually feels quite balanced because if defense reoccupy land, then defense has too much of an advantage if both sides are equal. Usually both sides ought to stay on defense as a nash equilibrium point. By not allowing defense to reoccupy, it rewards and incentivizes offense moves

Man this update has made it really difficult to figure out what to do in Grand Campaigns. I united Rome as Byzantium in Eu4's latest update but trying to figure out what to do with the entirety of the Empire makes my head spin. 1.5 has turned me into a smooth brain. Prior to I was able to make Cape Colony into the entirety of Africa, now I'm lucky if I beat the Danes as Prussia 😂

really like picking up generals with cruel plus a defensive trait for the pure infantry defender stacks. then you get a little kill rate in there without artillery. a couple of weird army things i've noticed: you can overstuff a unit with generals by merging. also you can fire generals without opinion loss by disbanding units

Did you know in what patch did they nerf Egypt? It used to start with 9.4M GDP, now it’s 5.5M with a way lower SoL. Ottomans didn’t get nerfed that hard so Egypt got substantially weaker.

In addition to MAPI, a few patches ago there was an update on the GDP calculation with an end product of all GDP being lower. (I think they stopped taking input goods in counting the GDP, but i may be wrong).

I encountered a problem playing as the US where my armies are unable to find a path to fronts even when there are direct land border connections. It seems to happen every time there's a revolt in the midwestern states being colonized. Disbanding and relocating armies didn't fix the issue. Just wondering if you've encountered this before and know how to fix it.

I feel like I responded to this but YT says I haven't. Generally wages can be really expensive, and the arms industries specifically are super efficient, so it actually might be a good source of stimulation for the economy when you get into late game.

Still no logistics. Sending an army to the other side of the world is the same as sending it to your neighbor. Armies can access fronts even if there is no access.

Thank you, really needed this. I would like to request a video about making colonies in africa. I am danish, and as such, often play as denmark. What i noticed in 1.5, is that having a lot of land in africa real hurts the SoL, and causes problems with migration. So i tried to make all the african parts to colonies, which really hurts the gdp of my small nation. Normally i would have huge parts of niger, south africa and congo. Zanzibar is harder to colonise now since portugal has rights to it. What parts of africa is best to make colonies, and which should you keep under direct control? Thank you if possible.

Hey! Thank you so much for the video, my armies are at least now doing better. One thing that I noticed when using your attack armies is that I would do 2-3 attacks that are successful, but then I start losing badly as I've depleted 80% of the manpower of the army groups. Is there a way to mitigate the losses or to make it so the manpower pool replenishes faster? I thought it might had to do something with the training method, but even after researching the next one ahead of time the issue still persisted. thanks in advance!

You can try reducing the ratio of generals that are attacking. Also someone told me that borrowing on offense still isn't working properly, so avoiding having small pushing armies might help. Also you can look for stuff like "Cautious Advance" that push slower too.

i dont hate the way the new army system works but i think it should either get more simplified in terms of buildings and usage, OR go whole hog with granularity (as long as it comes with a less wrist-wrenchign UI). What id love is a mix of the old system and the new one, where you build barracks in states that soldier and officer (and maybe other types of pops!) "Produce" a Force Limit you can assign units to in an area, so you dont have to break your head building individual regiments. (also an "Upgrade All" button in the Military Tab would be very nice) my least important gripe with it however is Lancers being so effective for that long into the game, as faster reloading guns should let Dragoons become much more effective and trench systems/field works turn lancers into target practice, not to mention Hussars and Cuirassiers

@@jcal9151 Whether an army is garrisoned in an HQ or at a front does not affect the Training Rate of the building associated with the units. An army at a front suffers 2% attrition. An army at a front also suffer from casualties from battles. So naturally an army not at a front will recover faster. The main thing you want to do for ensuring that your units and armies recover manpower is to have enough qualified Officers in the relevant states. A unit(barrack) has a ratio of Officers to Servicemen and cannot recruit Servicemen above the ratio, therefore you need qualified Officers to reach the full Training Rate (amount hired per week) of the building, since lacking Officers will prevent recruitment of Servicemen. It's important to note that aristocrats at subsistence farms do not get recruited to barracks, so you can subtract those qualifications, this is a problem for me in african colonies. The Enlistment Efforts edict also gives you an edge with +25% Training Rate. For example: You have 10 barracks, 10000 open military jobs. Your Training Rate is 200, you recruit 200 soldiers (Officers and Servicemen) a week. With the same barracks, and Enlistment Efforts edict on that state, you would recruit 250 per week (200 * 125%.) Assuming you have the same amount of units and same quality as your enemy and an even kill rate, you would eventually grind down your enemy. However if your enemy has 20 barracks and 20000 soldiers, then their weekly Training Rate would be 400 versus your 250 and they would grind you down. I hope this shed some light on your situation.

Playing as Argentina. This game is a complete mess. the dude in charge of this game should be not just fired, but jailed. I have 5 infantry units, tried to disband one to make room for an artillery unit, but the moment I disband a unit, the barrack degrades, so it has to be expanded again which takes about two years . Instead of building anything else I have to wait for this one cause I cannot build more things at once (in what reality a country cannot build more than a thing at a time? let alone in a game). Expanding the construction sector costs a fortune, it takes forever, has little to no positive impact, but bankrupts me. Opening trade routes for every product is crazy, plus they soon turn into loss so must be micromanaged. For what? Who even created this game? He never played Victoria 2, let alone loved it, V2 is such a fun game, but with very broken economics that could have been easily fixed in a new game if the provinces could have different RGO they could switch to automatically (or manually) if the marked demanded it, plus a few other improvements. Why Paradox couldn't hire a dude that even played Victoria 2 to build on that brilliant (yet flawed) game? This is not Victoria 3, its Sh*t1. Another thing again it takes forever to build something and just press minus and they are gone in an instant. I built some government building and realized they were bankrupting me, which is crazy to thing a government administration is some province on itself will deplete the budget of an entire country (WTH is this?), but was no way to fire the employees, to open the building for hire later when the economy will grow, but we have to press minus, building gone, later wait two years again to build this, instead of building a factory, farm or mine. And not even knowing if when the new administration is full won't drive me bankrupt again. It's absolutely impossible to understand what was on the minds of the dudes that created this game. But what minds? This is not even a game, but a fraud. Looks like a game, but there's more to do and more fun watching the grass grow. In Victoria 2 you could create armies move them around, with skill win against more powerful enemies, expand, build, nothing like this here. Complete insanity.

What exactly is the gameplay in this "game"? Clicking plus sings on buildings? There's actually no game at all and definitely not Victoria 3. Victoria 2 was a broken jewel, this isn"t even broken, there's nothing to break, just clicking some random stuff, mainly plus signs on buildings and staring at the screen wasting your life. And the most ridiculous things ever like recruiting units then having to stare at the screen waiting for barracks to be built for those units, even at max speed. Then any change of composition and those barracks have to be rebuilt. In all my life of playing I never saw anything such ridiculous. It must be a new generation of game developers, the kind that never played any games, so they have no clue what a game is supposed to be.

…Keep in mind one of the guys who made Victoria 2 had the spreadsheets for how they did things in the economy, and at some point after Victoria 2 was released he bailed and took the sheets along with him. Victoria 3 is the result of Paradox attempting to update Victoria 2 without that very important group of sheets - and of course it’s not a perfect game, but neither is every other game. If you detest Vicky 3 so badly, just go back to Vicky 2.

@@epiceevee325 Actually after playing some more and adding a mod that gives more construction points to the construction sector, V3 game is much more playable. I started to see some of its virtues too. I can see there are also many improvements to V2 although V2 is still the much better game, but broken like I said. For example in V2 once artificial dye was available I built dye plants and as I was the owner of those crowded dye producing Bengal provinces, all of the farmers remained unemployed. So I closed all the dye factories, put the tariffs to maximum, waited for months and still no demand for dye, none of the farmers got working in the dye RGO. Somehow my fabric factories were getting all their dye needs from some mysterious place and it wasn't from import. Then I payed attention the the numbers in production and trading screen etc and I couldn't believe my eyes. Totally broken for most items. Nothing adds up. Its so broken it's hilarious. Huge consumption of meat yet my meat producing provinces were unemployed, same for wool, especially for wool. Nobody seems to buy any wool although the pops consumes huge amounts, in RGOs there's nobody or close to nobody works in wool production. And it doesn't come from import. Fish seems to be broken too. And it's not about spheres or anything, I know how the game should work. Also wool should have been used in fabric factories or something. V2 is broken, unfortunately. This period is fascinating, discoveries, or sort of, colonization, diplomacy, warfare, research. Huge potential. V3 should be one of the best and best selling games out there, but unless they change a few things, it's just a missed opportunity. Anyway, Imperialism series is the other series on the same theme and is brilliant, but dated, could be so much improved too. So that's all we have on this Imperialism and Victoria series and they both left me wanting more or to have them improved. Imperialism games were better in the fact that they have randomized maps, which made them so much more repayable. One thing that Victoria lacks.
