One thing that I think you missed in your research was that the covenant had very little knowledge about how effective the scorpion tank was until after the events of the first halo game. Most covenant commanders had no idea how to deal with it and those that did fight against it rarely survived to tell their superiors about it.

Generation Films, just wanted to point out that the weapon displayed in 7:46 is not the MA5C. The MA5C is the Assault Rifle in Halo 3. The weapon in Halo Reach (displayed in the video as MA5C) is actually a MA37, a much less affective weapon than both MA5B and C models. Just wanted to point that out to avoid misunderstandings. I feel I should add something here; given how quickly the UNSC advanced through the series within 30 years, the fact that the Marines were able to so effortlessly integrate not only new systems but also equipment from other SERVICES like Grizzlies, Mastodons and MA37s from the Army. That is HUGE

Allen makes a compelling point. In many ways the Halo Marines serve the same purpose relative to the Master Chief and other Spartans that the Imperial Guard/Astra Miliraum do with regard to the Adeptus Astartes - they provide a human baseline for comparative purposes, both showing us how extremely capable the transhuman warriors of their respective universes are, and at them same time allow for a narrative avenue of demonstrating ordinary human courage in the face of overwhelmingly powerful opposition - it takes much more bravery to face a nightmare alien monstrosity/Daemonic abomination/improbably powerful super weapon as a normal human in body armour and toting a rifle (not all that dissimilar from contemporary assault rifle's and body armour) than it does to face the same threat as transhuman super warrior who is physically and mentally superior in every way, far better equipped with incredibly powerful, cutting edge tech, and is either highly resistant to psychological stress or (in the case of the Astartes) literally 'knows no fear'. We the audience find it much easier to relate to a sci fi soldier who, despite the various technological trappings of the setting, underneath it all is not very different from us, and like us is subject to all the many and varied weaknesses and flaws (unaugmented) flesh is heir to. If your focus is on a superhuman character or set of characters, you still need that relateable, human supporting cast, for context if nothing else.

I feel like you should mention how technologically advanced the UNSC is overall. Even the basic marine kit is rather advanced compared to what we think. Those might look like clear eye protection, but it provides a heads up display. Also, you probably should have mentioned the vast variety of weapons rather than just a couple of basics. Also, as amazing as the tank is, you may consider the Mantis as well, since it is in their kit currently. And it's something that they would 100% need if they were up against something like the Mobile Infantry's Marauder suits.

This. The biofoam that they use in the books is incredible. It'd revolutionize combat as we know it, if we had it in our modern world. It instantaneously stops bleeding, sterilizes the wound, numbs the pain, and coagulates so that the soldier can recover and fight back until he can get proper medical help. Their medical bays on a single ship are so advanced it can literally, LITERALLY cure cancer overnight (less than 24 hours). Their AI's are incredible, effectively doubling the efficiency and effectiveness of any combat outfit, and their body armor and weaponry is nothing to scoff at. Their MA5B Assault Rifle from Halo: Combat Evolved fired 7.62 caseless ammunition in a 60 round magazine at a rate of around 600-800 round a minute, and due to the caseless ammunition, were capable of carrying 600 rounds of ammo when fully stocked. To put that into perspective, that's like every single soldier carrying around a M1249 SAW as a standard issue weapon. Modern US military men only carry around a third of that ammo. Their HUDs, like you mentioned, come standard issue with all UNSC military combatants, making them incredible shots by modern standards. There's a section in a book talking about how insurgents in the Halo universe feared UNSC marines, because UNSC marines would be able to shoot them right in center-mass from so far away that when they inspected the bodies, they'd find a single hole going through each insurgent's heart-- a single entry and exit wound from a three round burst. They have handheld nukes, dual-fire rocket launchers, the iconic Pelican dropship (capable of VTOL atmospheric flight AND space flight), casual fusion reactors to power everything from their homes to their battleships, cloning technology, FTL travel, and have colonized close to around several dozen worlds. The UNSC in the Halo universe is truly powerful, especially after the events of Halo 4, but I don't want to talk about Halo 4 or 5 because that's wack.

@@doctorhunger921 Agreed. Although this vid was better than the disadvantages, it still undersells the UNSC. The best part of the UNSC is their flexibility and intensity (just like the real Marine Core). Their ability to use force multipliers quickly and efficiently is a real strength that only the Grand Army of the Republic can match or beat. Just an AI alone would cripple pretty much all of the other Marine Core's in this list. Elites are easily the strongest single unit is this competition and for them to give respect to the Marines is a pretty solid nod! I think it would have been good to focus a bit more on weaponry and vehicles, they use a variety of weapons and air assets/artillery/rapid attack vehicles all suited to specific tasks and can kit out a platoon capable of dealing with any situation. Take the UNSC at it's peak (Halo 4 and onwards) and you have a serious fighting force. My number 1 is the Clone Army, but the UNSC is a close second!

@@christiandauz3742 pretty inconsistent when it comes to weapons, that's due to them needing to balance them out though. In lore, think of the AR as any modern bullpup, but with a link to your HUD and what not. For marines wearing eye protection that HUD is similar to the one you see in the game.

Plus the Insurrectionists aren't much of a severe threat for them to produce "better" weapons and the weapons they used were just as effective. You can see that in today's social climate where most of the guns we have are old Cold War era guns (yes the M16s & M4s are old guns) but with slight "upgrades" but are still the same as the 'Nam vets used back then.

Then for the Colonial Marines they have motion trackers, but no IFF. And Warhammer... Well... Why give mere guardsmen something so advanced and expensive?

The Colonial Marines had an even more sophisticated one as the tank was able to monitor position and biological functions. As for Guardsmen it would depend on which planet the regiment is from and the Imperium's industry is so wonky that we have no idea what is cheap to produce and what is expensive. Also IFF isn't that advanced, we have them now and the Imperium is leagues ahead of us.

The reason why there were triggered people was because you were wrong on many of your facts about the UNSC Marines. One is forgetting that the Assault Rifle had many different variations. Most of the AR versions weren’t big and bulky like the CE version. All human firearms have different fire modes and they aren’t figured similarly for gameplay. And the UNSC do have dedicated machine guns called the SAW.

@@brockgundich just pointing out that he is navy. most people think he is a marine, i remember when halo first came out and there was a big debate about if master chief is a UNSC marine rank or a navy rank. the marketing team didn't know that he was navy, and referred to him as a marine on more than one occasion, though later on this got fixed. he didn't really act like a leader in the game, though as a silent protagonist he couldn't really do such.

The MA5B was actually loved by many Marines, so the switch to 32-round mags wasn’t that welcome. By the time of Reach and Combat Evolved, the 5B model was outdated, but Chief had to use it, since there wasn’t really another option. The MA37 was the main battle rifle of the UNSC during Reach. However, feedback from Marines is what actually led to the implementation of the MA5C and MA5D models, and the BR55 as a stop-gap solution until they could roll out the new models, though the major dislike most Marines had of the 37, the mag size, wasn’t addressed. Speaking of the 55, the Marines liked it too, so it just kind of stuck around.

Actually in Halo : Combat Evolved they say specifically the tanks are borrowed from the Army. Only Pelicans Hornets and Warthogs are Marine property. I guess you can count that as good cooperation across services.

I think generation Film's reasoning is that the Mobile Infantry might have power armour with nukes in the novels, but in the movies they are something of a joke (written as a satire of militaristic cultures), and even the novel version of the Mobile Infantry are still baseline humans under all their tech, and what is more baseline human grunts, not tier one elite operators. The Spartans, like the Astartes, are transhuman super soldiers who are physically augmented to the nth degree, with reflexes and cognitive processing so fast, along with incredible strength and other bodily capacity boosted yet further by immensely sophisticated armour, and extremely potent weapons effective at all ranges of infantry combat and more than able to peel open Mobile Infantry Power armour, that there is no comparison between them and the Mobile Infantry as overall weapons systems. Mobile Infantry soldiers can still experience fear and panic inside their armour, get confused by events, and simply not have the reflexes or brute nerve conduction velocity to react fast enough before they are killed when fighting legitimate, full fledged transhuman warriors. A hot orbital combat drop of Spartans or Astartes into a Mobile Infantry force would be a massacre, with the Mobile Infantry slaughtered before they could even take the safeties off their nukes, despite their powered armour, which would amount to little more than ready made coffins. You can't just stick a baseline human into a power suit and call them the equal of a transhuman, the comparison is hilariously unfair. And the Mobile Infantry can't wear their power armour all the time. Take a squad of Mobile Infantry soldiers out of their Power Armour and put them up against a Spartan or an Astartes, (as an example, what might happen if a Spartan Team of unit of Astartes Reiver terror troops infiltrated an Mobile Infantry base and took them at unawares) and they are as good as dead before the fight even begins. Heck, looking at the lore, a buck naked and unarmed Spartan 2 or Astartes warrior could kill a whole squad of them even if they were armed with assault rifles and body armour. As for the likes of ODSTs and Militarum Tempestus Scions, they are the equivalent of Special Forces; elite tier one operators who don't fight in the same manner as marines. Their standard approach would be to infiltrate a Mobile Infantry position and plant explosives on the Power Armour suits while they are rearming/recharging/refuelling, and the first the poor Mobile Infantry would know of it would be when their suits are blown to pieces and they find half their buddies dead before they could even get out of their bunks. Without their power armour, they are no kind of match for such vastly better trained and (in standard infantry combat environs) better equipped adversaries. The Mobile Infantry have only one trump card in the form of their powered armour, but that can only mask so many deficiencies with regard to other aspects of their capacity as warriors. To paraphrase a famous scene from the first Starship Troopers movie, incapacitate the Mobile Infantryman before he gets to his suit, or destroy the suit before he can pilot it, and you never have to worry about its tactical nukes.

We kicked ass on the ground because that was what we were used to. Its what weve been doing for centurys. Space warfare was not our forte. We only ever had the MAC guns being our one advantage in every engangment. The covenant just had better ways to destroy our space ships. Its like Germany vs Britain. Germany won all the ground engagments because they had superior tactics. But their navy was severly lacking and they lost all air superiority in the battle of Britain

CSMs are the highest enlisted rank and tier up from Battalions all the way up to the Army and Command levels, as well as in the pentagon. They do not groom Officers, they advise their Commander and make sure the rest of the enlisted do their jobs. The UNSC Military is modeled off of the US Military, not Canada.

One error with this, and the related flaw vid: The MA-5b was actually a Modified version of the MA-5 itself. It was modified for a higher rate of fire and to carry the 60 round magazine exclusively for use on the Pillar of Autumn and the Spartan team that was to deploy with it on their mission to capture a covenant ship. The variant was made, per Spartan specifications, for CQB inside corridors vs. Elites and designed specifically to chew through their shields along with the special ammo for that purpose.

As you mentioned the replacement of weapons due to feed back they did the same thing with vehicles . The M808B became the M808C became the M808S and the M820 Scorpion post war e.g. 35 tons of straight-up, 150mm HE-spewin', dee-vine intervention. Sgt.Maj. Funfact I learned in this comments section, in Reach you only see Marines at the end in the Pelican with Keyes. All the other soldiers in the game are Army personnel.

Remember that the Imperium is an empire of a million worlds, and fights wars on that kind of scale. @Generation Films actually 7:17 incorrect the covenant did not come to respect the marines as warriors but it was the Sangheli aka Elites that came to respect the human marines as capable worriers. It was also said that some Elites would actually prefer the human marines to fight along side them and began questioning why humans were never given the choice to join the covenant.
