For a long time actually. From 1976(finally got established as a top worldwide band)till 1981 were their peak commercial period.1982 took a '4 decades break' till 2021 that was the triumphant VOYAGE release. And that's just phenomenal.

Nobody does a sad/hurt like Agnetha. It's like her trademark even now. Probably the best example with ABBA is "The Winner Takes It All". It's also her favorite ABBA work. The sad/happy thing is typical ABBA. Benny (composer) said it comes from being from a country near the arctic circle. The Sun just goes away for 1/2 the year. Don't know if your trying to go in some order but Frida (redhead) had a big hit about a year later with "Fernando". Both girls are top notch vocalist. When they harmonize thats known as ABBA's third voice, and they could do it at the drop of a hat. Anyway thanks for the ABBA. I subscribed.

ABBA were definitely the master of the upbeat break-up songs!!! Besides "SOS", other great break-up songs by them are "Knowing Me, Knowing You", "The Winner Takes It All", "When All Is Said and Done", and "One of Us". Also, don't forget the songs that showcased the guys vocals, such as "Does Your Mother Know", "Why Did It Have to Be Me", and "Another Town, Another Train", where Bjorn takes over the lead vocals.

As a young teenage boy in in the early 70's and consumed with KISS, Cheap Trick, RUSH, Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper, etc., I still was floored by this song. This old 60 something old man still is. Amazing, the power of a great song.

a separate comment I love the dialogue that both have and how You decipher the spirit of the songs Just as the Bee Gees write the best love songs, ABBA writes the best breakup songs. "SOS" is one of their first hits of that kind (You will see more of this genre, such as: Knowing me knowing you My love my life The winner takes it all When all is said and done One of us) here the blonde singer Agnetha stands out in her ability as a storyteller and with a brittle and fragile voice (she has soprano tune) that transmits pain and emotion like no one else (the brunette singer Frida has other fantastic qualities that you will see in other songs like Fernando, Money money money, Super Trouper) You made in my opinion the three most important songs of ABBA "Waterloo" is the one of its international Baptism and the irruption of Sweden in the Anglo-Saxon market "S.O.S." It is the one of their Confirmation as an important and talented group, the one that returned Them to the world charts, and gave ABBA their musical identity "Dancing Queen" is their Consecration as a Super Group and their flagship song and pop anthem Three different songs, three masterpieces We ABBA fans are going to fill You with a lot of suggestions hahaha But if you can, it would be good if you follow the chronology and take the #1 and Top10 classics worldwide hits first. ABBA had nine UK #1s and 20 Top 10s, and all of these are excellent, and almost all of these have official videos. And then moving on to live performances on tour; ABBA did only three, only two were filmed, and their performances are memorable. And one final request If it is within your possibilities, could you enable the English/Spanish subtitle option in the videos? It would be of great help to follow You better, since I am Latin American again I thank you for the excellence of your work, I follow You very carefully I wish you an excellent weekend

Hi Eduardo, thank you again for such a thoughtful comment! We will definitely figure out how to turn on English/Spanish subtitles so that our subscribers in Latin America can follow along our video. Our apologies we haven't figured out how to do that yet! Following ABBA's hits in chronological order makes a lot of sense and is a great suggestion!

This is the song that hooked me on ABBA , SOS ! The classical piano sound, Agnetha's haunting heartbreak voice, colliding with the rock wall of sound crashing chorus...genius ! I agree with John Lennon and Pete Townsend, ' the greatest pop song ever written and recorded'.

Agnetha Fältskog sings the original version, in her native Swedish. It is on her solo album "Elva kvinnor i ett hus". When I was in high school, un upperclassman went on holiday to Europe, and brought me back the album. Before ABBA formed as a group, Agnetha already had Nº 1 hits on the Svenskitoppen charts in Sweden, at 18 years old.

@@generationgapreacts 🙂Yes, Agnetha is a true soprano, and Frida is a mezzo-soprano.....that's why their voices together makes a great combination for high and low vocal ranges. 🎤🎤 ♫♫♫♫♪♪♪♪♪. Agnetha and Frida worked hard in the studio. Björn and Benny were prefectionists, and very demanding, and sometimes after hours and hours of the girls' singing..... they would ask if they could (redo) sing the song again....except with an octave higher.

I'm so glad to see you return to react ABBA, and with my favorite ABBA song "S.O.S." has a story It was one of Their first recordings after the greatest success of "Waterloo" in Eurovisión, just four months later, in August 1974 But it waited almost a year for its release, in June 1975 at Sweden, September 1975 at UK and US "Waterloo" needed another theme to confirm the trend and it was not an isolated success or a stroke of luck ABBA's next three elections failed to stand out Until finally "S.O.S." have your chance to be a single, and broke the drought, reaching #6 in the U.K. and #15 in the U.S. being Their second hit in both countries at the same time, and six #1 and more Top 10 in several countries of all continents and after these, ABBA had 18 Top 10 consecutives in UK between 1975/1982: Mamma Mía, Fernando, Dancing Queen, Take a chance con me, Chiquitita, etc "S.O.S." in less than 200 seconds is a gem, a fantastic masterpiece! The transitions from the dramatic opening (a dingy piano and a cracking Agnetha voice) to a powerful rock beat with catchy pop chorus in the middle are brilliant. ABBA marked an era in many ways One was the musical leadership of its beautiful and lofty female vocalists as the center of attention Another was the use of contrasts, such as sad lyrics with catchy melodies and harmonies And their recording tecnique "wall of sound" gives ABBA more powerfull ABBA, as in its time BEATLES, left an unforgettable mark on several generations It is good music that lasts and stays alive ABBA recording between 1972/1982 have a wonderful series of 20 worldwide hits and after 35 years ABBA return to studio in 2017 and recording initialy two new songs and finally a full new album Voyage released in last November 2021 that is a worldwide success I think that the next reaction could be "Mamma Mia" or "Fernando" , both in 1976, just before "Dancing Queen" to appreciate the musical evolution of ABBA following the songs in chronological order Thank you very much for your honesty and sensitive in your reaction You did together a fantastic job I hope to see you in another video to ABBA My best regards to You from Buenos Aires, Argentina South América

It is interesting to note that many of their early videos were filmed in the parks around Stokholm. The visual efffects are all practical in those days too. Be it a floppy distorted mirror, a prism on the lens or just looking up at an angle. Agnetha's musical influences include women such as Connie Francis, who sang in that heartache sort of style. For a group remembered as 'pop' they wrote a lot of heartbreak or serious adult songs.

THIS is the song I accidentally pulled up that day on MTV (that whole day was one straight out of the "Twilight Zone"), waking from a horrible sleep There's this Blond Goddess, (obviously with the Blood of my ancestors, [*see note], singing like a new age angel. She did something to my Brain that day that only being a man can feel it, it's completely UN-describable, I will say, that, the higher your "T" hormones are at the moment the more others will know what she did. *_ "You Think. (*) Imagine you're a Viking, brought up in the Viking Code, but stranded on the Island of Not-Tall-And-Blood-Thirsty-Enough". That's my Look.

Looking back now I think how amazingly strong these four people were to have a music group of 2 married couples that then divorce but kept touring as a band. It had to be so painful at times after the marriages broke up to have to stand next to each other and sing love songs.

They have several interesting songs I would recommend to you. First there is "The Day Before You Came". They do something remarkable there: all the sadness is in the music, none of it is in the lyrics. The lyrics describe a very ordinary day and the two put together just breaks my heart. Then there's "Head Over Heels". While I was a music teacher I offered extra credit to any student who can sing it's melody flawlessly. Listen and you'll understand why. Last, but not least, there's "I'm a Marionette". You will wonder: is this still ABBA? Yes it is.
