louiseglasgow once you look at statistics for numerous different gun related topics you realize that gun control won't stop anything. The main problem is violence in general and when you try to take away civilians' rights to defend themselves you are making violent people more comfortable with committing evil acts because they know no one will stop them until police arrive and at the point the damage has already been done. So that's why this video isn't the best to make a judgement on this topic.

Modern-day protests typically don't lead to legislation reform. They are good are raising awareness by making news cycles, but that's really it. They start a conversation. Legislation likely won't be imposed as a result of the march. However, I understand that these students are emotional and want to do something.

Johnny Taylor perhaps typical protests don't cause change, but perhaps this *isn't* a typical protest . . 😏
@johnnytaylor21227 жыл бұрын
What's being protested? We already have strict gun laws and far more lives are saved as a result of the 2nd amendment than lives lost. This event is tragic, but you can't save every life. Nothing will change because the change they want is already here. If they're protesting a ban of the 2nd amendment, then it will be far more catastrophic than legislation currently imposed and to argue that the 2nd amendment should be rescinded is to say that you don't believe in human rights and that the government can redact any "right" granted to the citizens at will without push back (because we're now unarmed).

I remember when I was still in school. I had just come back from therapy which was across the street and I just remember the building being locked and the teachers refused to let me inside. Then this other student and I had to get into some stranger's car because it "wasn't safe" for us to wait outside of the building. The reason this happened is because someone escaped a mental institute and had a gun and was walking around near where the school is. Like.... I was waiting outside of the school for maybe 15 minutes because I had no idea what was going on. I figured it was just another drill so I could've been shot because no one wanted to fill me in.

I don't see why you need guns anyway! I had been thinking about this situation, banning all guns would be amazing but because of how many guns there are in the US, I think it would be pretty unlikely to be able to retrieve them all. Only military people need guns. If guns don't get banned, to be able to buy a gun, there should be a similar system to being able to drive a car. You can't drive straight away. Firstly, you need a provisional license. Secondly, you will need many lessons to practise and to learn all the safety rules about being on the road. Thirdly, when you've had enough practise, you take a theory test. You have to get a certain score to pass. If you fail, you take more lessons and do more research on it. Fourthly, once you pass your theory test, you can then take the practical test and you can't drive a car until you've passed your practical. When having a car, you have to pay for insurance!

Then, and only then can you APPLY for a gun. I don't understand how people can still defend the idea that guns aren't the problem and that people are. Like seriously, don't you guys have figured out or understand that school shootings occur way more often in the US than anywhere else in the world ? And you know why ? Because other countries don't allow people to bear arms, and especially no automatic weapons. I've lived in Europe my whole life, in different countries of it, and I've never have witnessed a single school shooting as dealdy as the one that occur in the US ! Not a single one ! Also, the idea of implementing more controls on who buys weapons, how can you seriously achieve that? You know that your mental health state can vary with time ? Like one day you're okay and maybe at some point in your life you'll be in a depression, and might want to take the gun you legally obtain to release all the pain and stress you feel inside. Well, nice one, you are able to make a lot of damage because you have the right to bear a gun. You guys should open up your eyes and realise that your second amendment and the way you absolutely want to defend it with your guts is completely insane.

More facts to take in (keep in mind the guns were purchased legally): -According to data from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), during the four-year period from 2012 to 2015, nearly half a billion dollars worth of guns were stolen from individuals nationwide, amounting to an estimated 1.2 million guns. The top 5 states with the highest number of thefts are: Tennessee, Arkansas, South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Alabama. The states with the lowest gun theft rates are Hawaii, Connecticut, Rhode Island, New York, and Massachusetts.

Your own analogy makes the point, gun CONTROL is needed.

I was scared for my life, everyone pushed all the desks towards the door to barricade it, and I held the teacher's large scissors in my hands just in case. As an Australian, i have never met anyone who thinks that the answer to gun violence is more guns. i feel sick when i think of the fact that if we had the same laws, this would be a fear for every time i go to school. i feel safe when i go to school because there has not been a single school shooting in Australia in my life time. We still have guns for things such as trap shooting, but they are so rare I have never been anywhere near a gun. You can protect yourself in other ways, you can still enjoy your hobbies, the only thing that is impacted is the access murderers have to their chosen weapons. Educate yourself about the statistics around this issue. For all those who think mental health is the issue- sure, fix that. But in the meantime, gun laws are proven to work. Mental health is important, but removing guns is easier than removing illness.

I’m sorry if I’m being offensive but the girl who said my previous quotation and said about it’s the person behind the gun, yes it may be, but if you take away the gun you take away the possibility of danger, the mentally ill person can’t do as big damage without the gun, therefore safer. It just makes me mad, I’m 15, live in London, do army cadets, I know how to load, unload, disassemble and reassemble a rifle, and we do all this without many injuries ever, in the last 100 years that my school has used rifles, the only injuries are when the bullet casing come out the chamber and it hits your hand or something and causes a slight cut, so if we can be trained at 13-18 how to use rifles in any way possible, then you can train anyone to do the same, and if they fail the test for it, or psychiatric test, no gun. But it doesn’t matter about the person behind the gun, if there’s no gun at all...

The UK/Great Britain is weird when it comes to guns and violence. The safest parts of the UK/GB have the least strict gun laws. NI allows hand guns and concealed carry, IOM and the Channel Islands allow hand guns and have never had gun crime. The UK in general has far far higher violent crime rates than most countries in Europe. Countries such as Poland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Czechia, Italy etc etc which allow civilian ownership of semi autos such as AR-15s (with licences) have violent crime and mass shooting rates far lower than the UK. Violent crime is caused by a combination of social inequality and lack of mental health care. Not just the guns/weapons you can own.

@taylorwhisler15526 жыл бұрын
I don't think many, if any people, are saying all mentally ill people are violent. But with a lot of the major school shootings, the shooters have had mental issues. So of course it's going to get talked about.
@caileigh94976 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree. By mentally ill what do they mean? ADD isn’t dangerous. Often times depression isn’t dangerous, anxiety isn’t. I support gun control not gun ban. I appreciate it when people say “danger to self or others” not “crazy” “insane” “mentally ill”
@mah1na6 жыл бұрын
It's not that they're saying all. But it paints a perspective that mentally ill people are scary, violent killers or typical "psychos". Fun fact on that btw: psychosis is an umbrella term for disorders that make it hard to tell reality from delusion. Schizophrenia does not equal crazy horror movie style murderer.

We have people struggling with mental health in Norway too, yet we have had ZERO school shootings, because the ones sick enough to even think about it don't have access to these weapons. Something needs to change.More strict rules about who gets to carry guns (VERY strict ones may I add ...), and better health care system to help those in need of it. Creds to all these teenagers fighting. I'm far away from the situation, but I'm fighting along side you.

My frustration is when people say it’s the people with mental health problems that’s killing people, then get those people some god damn help they need. The thing here that frustrates me the most are these people that are saying that we need to 'prevent crazy people from owning guns.' Not all people that are mentally unstable go around barking at trees and killing dogs.There is a reason that so many serial killers or psychopaths go undiscovered for so long -- it's because many of them know how to portray themselves outwardly to other people. They know the masks to put into place to hide themselves in plain sight. Many of our most famous serial killers were people that were considered extremely charming and polite, the last person you would ever expect to perform criminal acts. That's *how* they were capable of luring so many individuals into a false sense of comfort. This is why so many are drawn towards -- and end up in -- positions of power/persuasion: law enforcement, politics, medical fields, clergy, television, etc. Hell, just look at the number of pedophiles that work in TV, and are *still allowed to work in TV.* I realize this isn't about psychopaths in particular, but it does go to show that there is no simple gauge for mental health. They're not born with brands on their foreheads. Neither am I saying that *all* guns need to be taken away. I have no strong opinions one way or the other, and I know perfectly well that I lack the knowledge on both ends of the spectrum to be able to speak for one side or the other. But I do know *something* needs to be done, and that these conversations are extremely important to be having right now.
