I almost missed this because it wasn't in the "videos"-lineup. The rebellion seems a bit more interesting to me in terms of military than the Galactic Empire, though I suspect that the Sith doctrine did more to destroy the Empire than the Rebel Alliance on its own.

I'm actually the most interested in the Naboo "Security Volunteers." How the hell do you defend a planet with no standing army? Obviously they didn't, but what was the principle here for _avoiding_ the kind of war that came to them in Episode 1? What gave the Gungans pause against rising up and taking back the surface? Is it like Switzerland, where owning and training with a weapon is mandatory or something?

I liked Rogue One (the most of any major Star Wars film, actually) for that exact reason: It came about as close as a movie could to the actual functions, tactics, and results of the Rebellion. Nothing quite like a group of smugglers, spies, murderers, and well, t-words, banding together in a suicidal attempt to steal plans for what would become a giant planet killer.

Empire building challenge Guidelines 1. You are the head of this Empire. 2. Choose your capital. 3. Chose one Supreme Commander for your military. 4. You have five fleets in your Navy chose one character from legends or cannon as your Commander for each fleet and chose two Lieutenants for them. 5. Your Navy must consist of one ship for each class those classes being a Battleship, Frigate, Destroyer, Corvette, Carrier/Command ship, Troop Transport and a Gunship any ship from legends or cannon can be used your only limitation is you can’t pass the New Republic Era. 6. Your Star Fighter Core must be made up of a Regular Star Fighter, Interceptor, Multirole Star Fighter, Bomber, and a Recon fighter. Same rules as guideline number five. 7. Pick five special forces units any group goes. 8. Pick one special Capital ship for you and your Supreme Commander. 9. Pick one Force Sensitive group as your Secret Service. 10. NO SUPER WEAPONS 11. Ground Commanders and ground armies are optional.

You know that whole keeping the ideology of the Alliance in tact versus simply destroying as much of the Imperial war machine was on perfect display Monday with the Rebels episodes that formed In the Name of the Rebellion. Mon Mothma has a clear ideology that she wants to protect in order to gain the trust of the planets they're hoping to liberate from the Empire and bring into the overall rebellion, which is why a lot of her tactics involve carefully planned out missions and a lot of diplomacy. On the other hand, Saw's overall philosophy and tactics revolve around get intel about the Empire, get to the location in that intel, and blow the hell out of whatever Imperial base or ship is there without regards to the local population. His tactic I'm seeing, thanks to Rebels, is one that will drive more worlds to readily accept the rule of the Empire if the population on that planet believes the Empire will keep them safe from the extremists of the Partisans and the Rebel Alliance. Yes, you want to have gains against the Empire but those gains should not come at the cost of the trust you want the people of the galaxy to have in you and your cause. That's what I think is the major overall theme of the period between episode III and Rogue One when the rebellion was going from small individual cells fighting to free individual planets into a unified and cohesive paramilitary group.

The rebellion is supported corporations that hates the “Empire” nationalization programs ( referenced in Star Wars rebels). Plus many factions of the empire post Endor became parliamentary democracies like the imperial council in the Kir Kanos comics or Gilad Palleons faction. Not to mention Vader hated the idea of slavery from his ptsd of being one!

Think you guys could do a spieces vs souecies series? For an example, Ewoks vs Jawas.... Nor that you got all the laughing out of your system remember Ewoks were throwing head sized holders over their heads at imperial troopers and had managed to booby trap the area around the shield generator, that an apparently Stone Age species has come up with working glider technology sting enough to carry an Ewok and a payload of large fist sized rocks. The Jawas on the other hand learned how to operate sandcrawers, made tech capable of sending an energy volt capable of safely deactivating a droid and were perfectly adapted to their harsh environment.

One reason that has held me back liking the Rebel Alliance has been the fact that they lack a dedicated ground force. They have small strike squads but no large battalions for taking a holding planets. They really rely heavily on winning over a planets population to hold said planet (think of SW Rebels and how they spent many years whittling down Lothals imperial presence then winning over the population pushing the empire out) I get why this is The rebels are supposed to be a paramilitary group that uses guerilla war tactics so a large army doesn't fit that idea. But I think there is a way to find a middle group. The answer is Private Military Corporation. Basically the idea that a PMC group that operated during the clone wars and early imperial days that is similar in size to a Clone Legion or Battle Group. That the Rebel Alliance hires out to conduct the large ground battles that the Rebels need conducted. These individuals could also train Rebel soldiers as well. This could basically add a professional army for the Rebels without it contradicting the strategy of the Rebels. Also this can fix one problem with the New Republic in Canon which is the fact that as soon as the empire lost power the New Republic demilitarized leaving only 1 naval fleet and a large number of Star Fighter pilots to keep the Republic in check. This mentality of doing this makes no sense after the end of a galaxy wide Civil War. But it can be justified more if there was a Private Army that was friendly with the New Republic that the New Republic could just throw money at when they are needed to fight the battles that need to be fought.

@@neofulcrum5013 Agreed that would be a big thing that I think could win me over to the Alliance a little more. Which is why I suggested a PMC would make a great middle ground. This PMC group could have AT-TE's, actual full Armor like Clones, Stormtroopers, and old Republic troopers. Then they could again be similar in size to a clone Legion or larger being capable of Fighting a planet wide military campaign against imperials. (Or other factions in a Post-War New Republic era)

Another great video. I really enjoyed it! .. Just wanted to hear your opinion on this.. Did George Lucas plagiarize star wars? .. I heard someplace that Star wars was a rip-off of Dune.. Sometimes when i think back to all the main story elements of the original trilogy .. it seems very apparent to me that Star Wars is basically Dune.. they just scattered a lot of the events ... heck even Han Solo was a spice runner right?.. Luke is basically Paul Atreides etc, the big galactic worm in ESB and the Emperor .. I dunno.. I think at the very least it would be a cool thing to explore a little in a video... neutrally positioned of course haha.. heck i love star wars as much as the next guy :P

Allies through most of the war was the upper dog in the fight. They had better armored tanks weaponry and more equipment. The Germans was strong on a tactical lvl. As we saw in the battle of France where they crushed the seperior Allied force. The Rebels are more Afgani Rebels in the Afgan-Soviet War.

One thing that was understood during WWII but forgotten during the Vietnam War was the importance of propaganda and how it is used. It is vital that you remind people of why you are fighting and what your goals are, otherwise moral is going to plummet and people are going to wonder what the point of fighting is. In the case of the Rebel Alliance propaganda would be very important in terms of what is done. If the majority of people are willing to live with the Empire then you would have to exploit the terroristic act it commits against its people and throw it against the Empire. As the empire becomes more ruthless in their acts and the more the Rebel Alliances win battles people will start to support the Rebels. However, as stated here they have to be very selective of their targets, making sure not to hit civilian targets but Imperial ones only.

Eh, I'm not too keen on the real life comparison at the end. If the Galactic Civil War more resembled the war in Syria, and the Assad regime was the empire, the Rebellion was essentially be more like a leaderless cluster of factions that fight each other constantly, as they all posses their own goals. Eventually, one such faction, let's for example use the Dreamers, would become so powerful and destructive, the various factions and the Empire regime would band together to take out the Dreamers, the Empire being propped up and aided by the Yuuzhang Vong or something. And if the comparison was apt, the Empire wins at the end.
