See, the weird thing is that dromund kaas actually isnt in the unknown regions, but in the outer rim, but most references to it and the sith empire say they came from unknown space which is kind of on the other end of the galaxy. Makes me think that before the mandalorian wars, the outer rim was considered part of the unknown regions and only after the jedi civil war, explorers mapped out the outer rim and it no longer became unknown, while the real unknown region is still pretty much unexplored. Just my own theory on it.

They have been finding and losing planets and star systems for century's in the star wars universe. Dromund Kaas was lost over time along with alot of other force planets. Luke in the new movies was found on a lost planet with a previous history. In Reys timeline the star wars universe is the biggest has ever been.

I agree completely. You don't get a galaxy spanning empire or republic overnight. Earlier in their history, much more of the galaxy would have been unknown to them, that knowledge lost when previous civilizations collapsed, and such.

Palpatine could be sensing some long lingering effect of the Rakatan Infinite Empire - a dark side faction which had dominated the galaxy in pre-Republic times, before collapsing amidst the infighting so common among dark side factions. Or perhaps some surviving dark side artefact built by the Rakatans (like the Star Forge which supported Darth Revan's Sith Empire), or a storehouse of Rakatan dark side knowledge.

Allen my youngest daughter came up with an interesting theory after watching this video. The star Wars universe is in the milky way galaxy. When I asked her how she came to that conclusion she said WHY would the alien in E.T. start saying HOME HOME HOME when it saw someone dressed as Yoda. I love your idea that there could still be colonies or even kingdoms of Sith still out there in the Unknown Regions (hell, maybe in Wild Space as well). Considering how many Dark Side cults and Sith worshipping groups there are out there, like the Prophets of the Dark Side or the Acolytes of the Beyond, I personally think there could be some "true" Sith out there waiting to be rediscovered. I recently one of the ideas they had for KOTOR 3 was for the player character to follow Revan's footsteps after he went into the Unknown Regions looking for the Sith Empire led by Vitiate that had been hiding there since the Great Hyperspace War. Among their ideas was that the Empire was divided among a few chief Sith lords, who shaped the worlds, their slaves, beasts, everything to their will through sheer use of the Dark Side. Of course we later see this Empire in The Old Republic game and Vitiate's Sith empire ultimately more closely resembled the Galactic Empire of Palpatine. I'll admit, I think the Sith Empire ideas from KOTOR 3 sound badass, but I'm not sure how the Sith lords could become powerful enough to do that in the time span from the Great Hyperspace War to the Great Galactic War. Plus Vitiate was a controlling bastard, so I'm not sure he'd let the ruling Sith lords divide up the Empire into their own separate fiefdoms. However, imagine if such a Sith Empire or faction was still out in the Galaxy and hadn't been discovered until the era of the Galactic Empire or the New Jedi Order. I could see the Sith lords being powerful enough to shape things like that by then, and I'm sure they would seize on the opportunity to invade the Galaxy ruled only by a couple Sith lords (since they'd be isolated from before the invention of the Rule of Two) and the Jedi Order either destroyed or rebuilding.

I think I finally got my answer at how the First Order formed after the collapse of the empire, although rements kept rising not long after anyway, but perhaps the one that later became the First Order just kept hiding and stayed hidden in the Unknown Regions instead of being like sleeper cells elsewhere within the known galaxy.

I'm actually thinking perhaps JJ Abrams' original plot (or at least a suitable alternative) plot to the sequel trilogy would've been to have Snoke be a powerful entity from the Unknown Regions looking to conquer the known galaxy, and episode 9 should've been a showdown with Snoke in an Unknown Regions planet. They should make a canon animated show based off "outbound flight" with a star trek approach with an overarching plot involving Chiss, unknown region aliens, deep space horrors, dark side force apparitions, the remnants of the dead Rakata and Sith empires and Darth Sidious' bounty hunters (Like Durge who is on a mission to destroy the starship Outbound flight, making the character cannon and explaining his absence in the clone wars). They could set the first few episodes around the years between before and after the arrival of Anakin as a build up before their departure as they setup the events, introducing new characters and explaining why they left and why they're never mentioned again. They could even show Darth Plagueis and Palpatine conspire together in order to set up outbound flight before Darth Plagueis is assassinated as a little fan service.

Considering the resources available to any Galactic Empire it should be feasible to just hop from system to system, building a presence or at least a outpost in each. A concerted effort with a couple of hundred capital ships should be able to do it. And while that is a big investment, the payoff in new systems, resources and information, including the navigation data would more than make up for it in the long term. Especially as most of the ships should survive, and in fact form the core of the local patrol fleet.

Because the Clone Wars CGI TV show makes no sense and destroyed the original (now legends) lore of the clone wars. But Krell was prepared, the attack on the temple was not it was a suprise attack, they shut down all communication, escape routes, etc. And stormed the temple from every angle. There was also thousands of Jedi, Temple Guards, aswell as non-jedi guards etc. Almost the entire 501st legion was there who was a specially trained legion created by Palpatine himself.

Korriban and Dromund Kaas are in the opposite direction of the Unknown Regions. Although the area was "unkown" space at that time in Star Wars galactic history, it wasn't in the area commonly called the Unknown Regions.

Lately I get more and more inclined to go back and play The Old Republic, would be awesome if they released an Add-on that allows players/the alliance commander to travel into the unknown regions and create his own empire/republic whatever political system he/she wants to enact there with a bunch of new class story which then later loosely connects to a follow-up movie/TV series to Rise of Skywalker. Although, wasn't the Old Republic scratched out of canon or so? I'm not too up to date with Star Wars lore, in fact I barely know anything because it just missed me and is too much to catch up on wholly now (it really was the KotOR/TOR part of Star Wars that drew me in the most and remains my favorite up to this day).

The unknown regions were really just the friends Palpatine made when he took over the galaxy.

Hard to say for certain, since we know very little about this area of space. Hopefully it will be explored a little more in the upcoming pieces of lore, although I doubt we'll see a lot in Ep IX

I imagined he either was sensing the Vong, just like in Legends or perhaps he is/was sensing something ancient and powerful like Abelloth. Especially if it was powerful to hold his attention an perhaps even threaten him it would probably need to be something like that

What If... Palpatine built the Death Star to protect the Galaxy from an outside threat. Blowing it up was a disaster. The Rebellion are villains.

Thats what i think of when i hear about Yuzang Vongs attacking the entire Galaxy, that Luke & the Rebellion Destroyed the Galatic Empire that Galaxy had as best defends like the 2 Death star

I'd like to see a grey force using order. A gray order would most likely transcend the limitations of the Jedi and Sith. I wonder why dark side users never used light side techniques. In the interest of becoming more powerful, like windu did with vapaad
