Yord Fandar is the ideal image of what a Jedi Knight during the High Republic should look like. He is clean cut, disciplined and has an air of superiority and confidence about him. But, if we look deeper at the character, there's something hidden behind that confidence. Unlike other jedi in the order, like the much younger and more talented Jecki Lon, things did not come easy for Yord. This jedi knight clearly had to work his ass off in order to obtain his position.

Honestly after watching this I feel even worse that he died now. The guy did his best, didn't put others down, always took criticism on the chin, fought bravely and never disrespected his superiors. He was a model Jedi and the Jedi Order is weaker for losing him.

He also loved pointing his lightsaber at things like it was a cane, he should have worn a top hat and monocle to complete the look. It’s a meme how he always has to light up his saber at every opportunity, just so ridiculous and stupid. Also a scholar at every level with his knowledge of Star Wars and Anakin blowing up the Death Star. That host could’ve saved him from looking stupid and didn’t…and for that I’m grateful haha

It may not have been his choice. She was also left behind when retrieving Osha after the prison ship crash. But I do think he also consciously made that choice, too, since he took such personal responsibility for it. Maybe even relieved that he didn't have to bring her against someone he thought was dangerous a second time. I hope we get to see his padawan one more time, someone to remember Yord for the hero and genuinely good person he was.

I knew guys like Yord in the infantry. Very good, knowledgeable, disciplined garrison soldiers who handled their assignments without questions. Yet, while mostly competent, they were uninspired in the field. I was exactly the opposite. A very good, knowledgeable, inspired field soldier who achieved objectives and made suggestions. Yet, while mostly competent, a pain in the ass in garrison.They made rank while I avoided losing it. As we spent much more time in garrison, they were better adapted to the Army's structure and flourished, while I languished in boredom and beer. They managed in the field while I came alive. And both types of soldier are necessary. Kudos to Yord.

I keep wondering if yord brought his Palawan to the forest that day.... cause if he did, he was following orders after having a small part of his soul torn when she was finished. But his 1 one goal was to save the citizen as he was told to, someone in over their head. That wasn't for his safety I don't think. It was all for oshas safety

A lot of comments I've seen online about Yord had people write him off as an idiot, I didn't get that impression. I felt he was in over his head, especially given he was basically a newly minted Jedi Knight and therefore not as experienced as other, more seasoned Jedis. The fact he figured out how to use the helmet against its owner showed he was a lot smarter than a lot of people thought he was. He died defending the people he cared about, and I really wish he (and Jecki Lon) was still alive.
@Wezqu
@Wezqu Күн бұрын
I would say all of them who went to the planet even Sol were over their heads. Only ones who overcame that was Yord and Jecki. Jecki almost beat "The Stranger" in one on one fight until he pulled a trick with slitting his lightsaber into two and slaying her. Yord using the helmet against "The Stranger" shows he had good battle sense but he underestimated his enemies physical fighting prowess and got his neck snapped. "The Stranger" is not a master clearly. No darkside master would be losing against a padawan and only winning by using before unseen trick.

Yord makes me think of Captain Holt. Someone who does everything by the book because he’s already at a disadvantage and can’t afford having to give his superiors any reason to have a problem with him. Catwoman is the Nanny. CC the business partner who always gets burn by the butler is Vicki Vall or .. Supergirl. 2.) D&D/Star Wars gaming shop, .. Honestly Yords death was super surprising for a few reasons. First is that he was set up as a main character in the show so I was expecting him, Sol and Osha to survive the fight. Second is just the sheer brutality of his death. We don’t often see someone have their neck broken like that in Star Wars. Usually it’s with the force or something. Yord struck a cord with me and a lot of it was just about how he very clearly did everything he knew to do to be a good Jedi knight. He did what he was taught. How he was trained. He cared about the people of the galaxy, clearly. And that's what led to his death. He was a compassionate man who put others ahead of himself. He was a good Jedi knight, and in his death he was failed by the Jedi. Not himself.

And then Jecki. And I suddenly got how this show is going to go. It's not pulling punches, and Yord is the one that solidified that. He wasn't waving death flags around. I thought he would survive to the last episode, but no. I cared, and his death, like Jecki's, had meaning in the meaninglessness of it. Yord is one of the most sincere characters in the Acolyte, similar to how sincere Mando is. They both truly believe and live their values, and are willing to sacrifice themselves for those they protect, if need be. Yord is definitely underated and his death hits hard.

Wow! That was a very interesting analysis of Yord. I did not like the character and was not sad to see him go, but I never saw him in the way that you described. Now, with your insight, I have a different perspective on Yord and far more empathy towards him. Thank you for taking the time to present Yord from your perspective. I am now feeling that the Jedi lost a good knight that day.

I never understood why Yord was shit on so much by everyone around him or why Master Sol allowed it to happen and even participated in it. Or why Jecki, on her first mission, was allowed to take the lead even after coming up with weak plans and executing her parts in them poorly. I almost feel like we were supposed to dislike her and maybe even cheer when she died. There was some seriously wasted characterization developments with these two. Which rolls back to the show's problems .

Additional point: I'd also like to point out something I realized. "An acolyte kills without a weapon." Yord is the ONLY Jedi killed without a weapon so far. Meaning, in some twisted way, he was the truest Jedi of them all.

Yord in the Council - TPM is over before it even starts. "Master Qui-Gon, you report a Dark Side user you suspect to be a Sith lord? That sounds improbable, but we have to take this seriously. I suggest I put together a tactical team to assist you in your inquiries. Don't look at me like that, Master Ki-Adi Mundi, I know enough to take your opinion on anything and do the exact opposite."

The "crayon" struggle is relatable. After many years of saying it the first way I'm always correcting myself or hesitating to pronounce it correctly. I'm gonna miss both Yord and Jecki a lot. I think the last time I liked any completely new Star Wars characters this much this quickly might've been when Din Djarin debuted.

Yep. Yord was not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but he was doing the right thing all the time. Somethimes slower ont he uptake, but he for example was the only one to notice OSHA stealing away in the temple and followed the suspect - which then meant that he could testify to her being blameless in a very suspicious situation.

I love the view out the back window. brings me back to Nar Shaddaa. I love Yord's yen for his job, he cares about his craft and he's proud of what he's accomplished without ego. It's a shame he got lost because I feel like the High Republic Jedi would have benefited from his attitude and perspective.

Oh, now I am crying for Yord. I liked Yord. He was that by-the-book and bit of a dork Jedi. I also sensed that there was something beneath his demeanor. Thanks for putting it into words :) And just when you started to really like him, episode 5 comes along. I started to really like him in the scene, where he talked about the language he learned. Everyone learning Wookie and he decided to learn the language of the tracker. It felt like his one 'not out of the book' thing. Maybe it was something were no other youngling would have made fun of him, because if he's the only one studying it, he's the only one excelling in this lesson. I wish they were more episodes to get to know the character a little bit more, but I kind of feel like they did this on purpose. "You start to like this character? GoT is not the only show, that can hurt you!" More episodes building on characters like Yord, like you did, would have messed me up in the latest scenes^^

Thank you for this awesome explanation and in-depth overview of Yord. I liked his character more than I thought I should for him just being a generic rule following Jedi at first glance. This explanation helps to explain why I liked him that I wouldn't have probably figured out on my own. Definitely more sad about Yord & Jecki dying than I would have been if Osha and Mae died.

Dude, thank you so much for covering these characters in depth with your knowledge and added ideas. I was worried we wouldn't get any deep dives on Yord cause he's from the Acolyte and the internet decided we must hate it. Anyway, this was a breath of fresh air. Thanks, great analysis. I would add that I thought Jeckies death overshadowed Yord. I wish they’d split those deaths up and focus another 5 min on more character development, but regardless I’m a big fan of the episode, and the character of Yord.

Alan, great job at pointing out the amount of grace that Yord carried himself with! Until this video, I hadn't felt his death was anything other than particularly brutal. But now I feel a loss for the character that makes me sorry that the Star Wars Universe won't get to see him grow and become something more than a cool name for a fan club.

Yeah after watching this I have a new found respect for the character and greater sadness at his death. I kind of knew all the stuff you said but sort of mocked him for it as I didn't take the time to really think about what it took for him to become this character, what his life would have been like before we meet him. And that gave me a new found sadness at his death.
