In my opinion the Jedi's fundamental flaw is that they fear the dark side and attempt to eradicate it; rather than viewing the force as 1 whole and truly finding balance of emotion and all aspects of the force. It's like thinking anger is a singularly negative emotion. If you're angry about some injustice and you use that anger to enact solutions, then you have used anger as a gift. It matters how you use anger, but pretending we can suppress anger or any other emotion is a fools errand.

@DrewLSsix7 ай бұрын
@@HotraiderI doubt that, he didn't have the experience to decide the jedi had done things wrong, he would have tried his best to uphold the ideas of the order as they were, that's why Ben was an easy target for Snoke/Palpatine, and why Luke didn't have the wisdom to handle his vision. Rey on the other hand might just be able to do that, I'm jot a huge fan of the end of the OT, I feel like they once again ended with the implication of the status quo being restored, with the jedi texts being saved and Rey adopting the Skywalker name. But her own lived experience with the dark side and her connection to the sith, along with her having risen above the darkness, I think she has the perspective necessary to teach young jedi that they possess both light and dark, and that inner balance is important.
@cloudmaster1827 ай бұрын
The thing is they started from a normal, understandable place. Feel your anger, but let it pass, and then act and make decisions from a more rational perspective The problem is over time, they moved away from that and gradually became more like u described. It went from "anger can be a path to the dark side, so control it and let it pass" to "if u feel anger you're probably gonna turn" so everyone pretends to never feel emotions, and then they ignore those emotions, and gut feelings, which, like u said, is the problem

I don't think Vernestra is corrupt and I don't think she knows what really happened on Brendok. I do think she's going to make the same mistake Master Farfalla made by being too impatient and rash, when he learned Darth Bane was still around he tried and go to destroy the Sith immediately instead of warning the Jedi Council of the threat, which ended poorly. Because one aspect of Vernestra's character from the books that seems consistent during the Show when she's 100 years older is that she tends to not ask for the Council's permission when she thinks something needs to be done, she goes and does it and then debriefs the Council afterwards...only this time sadly I don't think she'll get the chance to make that debrief.

I've read all the High Republic materials so far (well, I'm about 80% through the current book, so almost), and I'm not surprised at Vernestra's character in the Acolyte. For one thing, she's 100 years older and we don't know what her life has been like in the decades between the books/comics and the series. And another thing, she's always walked a line between outlier and by-the-book, and some of those facets are at the forefront in different situations. She's never been the warmest character out there. During the conflict with the Nihil, there was at least one traitor in the Senate (it's implied that there are more but we don't yet know who they are), so it's not surprising that she doesn't want Jedi business shared with the Senate.

The Jedi in the High Republic are basically Vought from The Boys. It doesn’t matter what crimes the Jedi may commit, it only matters if it affects their image. The reputation of The Order is more important at the Force at times where Jedi can do no bad and are essentially superheroes. Even Anakin in TPM believed Jedi were unkillable superheroes that exist to fight all the wrongs, but the older he became the more he realized it wasn’t as cracked up as what he used to believe.
@PaulusAlone7 ай бұрын
I would argue that it’s a generation raised on the generic slop of Marvel superhero films that now see everything through the eyes of a corporate superhero Iron Man lens rather than from the viewpoint of an independent and sovereign citizen? Too many now see the world through politics of identity and corporate mandated DEI and ESG requirements that have replaced a normal persons common sense with their corporate hive mind. This is why a corporate monster like Disney with monster serving employees like Leslye Headland write their version of the Jedi Order as being Vought like ‘bad guys’ full of the same nasty corporate type shenanigans that they themselves understand all too well? You write what you know and Leslye Headland unfortunately knew a certain Boss Weinstein and thus projects THAT onto the Jedi Order while trying to find excuses for the lesser evils of Mae and Osha? She wants to blame the corporate monster while excusing her part in it and thus the morally ambiguous tone is set?😅

I think that's a bit too harsh. The Jedi are still good people, albeit flawed. I suspect if they learnt whatever really happened on Brendok then they wouldn't have taken kindly to it at all and would've made the four Jedi answer for it.
@IggyStardust19677 ай бұрын
@@Mr-Rinn But isn't that the key to this, if you look hard at it? Such a scandal getting out, even as far as the Jedi Council, would be seen as a "black eye on the Jedi Order". There's an old adage, "Two men can only keep a secret if one of them is dead." As it stands, Sol is the ONLY Jedi left who knows what happened "that night". The other three have been permanently silenced. There is still a lot to be discovered in this series, and only 3 episodes left to learn them. The funny thing about the whole "corporate monster", is that George Lucas himself went from "independent film maker" to "corporate overlord" in just a few years. "You either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become a villain". He even stated so in one of the OT documentaries (about not trusting corporations to becoming one himself).

2:33 the 3rd episode had one of the most overlooked lines: "What will the Jedi do when they find out how you created [the twins]" I don't think this was meant to mean that the witches did it themselves. This I think was meant to align to canon when Palpatine told Anakin that "only one has achieved that power" - PLAGUEIS. the witches were in cahoots with the Sith / Plagueis at this time, and he helped them create the twins, for his own purposes.
@KMoney12197 ай бұрын
My take is the opposite. Mother Aniseya manipulated the force with dark side Magick to create the twins. Qimir is not the master, but an apprentice (or secret apprentice) of tenebrous that proceeds plagueis and this is where the sith got the idea of manipulating the force to create/preserve life

You said it near the end, the true reason the Jedi fell, they pledged themselves to Republic and to Democracy. They don’t listen to the will of the force as they did before Revan’s time. Now they worry about politics and not the will of the force. I believe it’s Legends now but somewhere it’s mentioned that no decision was ever made by the council unless all members agreed after mediating together and deciphering the force’s will. They forgot “The force is my ally.” And that’s why they fell.

I don’t think that Vernestra is inherently evil, but I do think she’s a bureaucrat and is very interested in keeping the Jedi in an elevated, privileged role in the republic. She’s chaotic good. Which means that she’s going to be fine breaking some rules, and sweeping some facts under the rug for “the greater good”. Which at the end of this series, her real crime will be hiding any idea of a Sith return so the status quo can continue. However - her knowing the truth will likely move the Jedi into a more conservative approach to the force leading them to the dogmatic nonsense that culminates in their downfall in episode 3.

It's funny. When young Vernestra was struggling with her choice of whip, I found it completely ludicrous, the idea that the shape of one's magic light thingy might tempt one into the Dark Side. Well, maybe she was in fact struggling with some stuff. Then again, maybe what this really shows is that recruiting children into cults as child soldiers is not the best idea. Don't let monks raise your kids, folks. Monks are very good at ale. Monks are very good at meditating. Monks are very good at Aristotelian logic. But monks are dubious childminders at best. Vernestra Rwoh shouldn't have been anywhere near a battlefield at the age when her career as a professional killer of evil things began.

The biggest problem with this though, is that each force user is essentially a walking bomb; If the Jedi don't train them, someone else will, and who knows what would happen?

@@phillipschuman4307 The Jedi don't hunt down all Force-Sensitive Children. Nightsisters, for instance, are not taken but allowed to stay. Wookies, and the Guardians of the Whills, are also allowed to stay. And as I said earlier, these children are walking bombs, you want something in the light side that is training them.

You're such a sage, Allen; wise well beyond your years. Glad you've got a platform to keep your voice in the mix.

I like that new set, and your dismissal of the toxic fandom was awesome. Abeloth is the scariest horror in Star Wars for me. I'm not throwing shade at your picks for scariest horror, I also have not read all the EU/Legends novels. There are probably thousands at this point. I really wish Ben Skywalker was a thing and Mara Jade was a thing.

Nah you’re right abeloth is definitely up there

Well here is the issue. its not the toxic side of the fandom that hates the acolyte. Generation tech is basically filling in blanks that the creations of the show themselves would never fill. he's projecting onto it. Also 1000% they made that girl that power cause girlpower, and nothing moer. She was a mary sue.

Finally a Star Wars fan that doesn’t cry about everything. I’m officially subscribed and won’t watch any other Star Wars channel.

Thanks for thinking for yourself and not just hating on this show because it seems to be the popular take.

My perspective is that you may be the last good SW content creator on this platform. Many turned anti-woke, anti-Disney. It reminds me prequel era Jedi Order, blinded by their ideals, being dragged into fabricated conflict, falling into trap. Thanks a lot for your positivity and openmindness. Coming from someone who didn´t enjoy much of the Disney era SW.

can't wait to hear qimir take of his back story that he will share with Osha.. Both are tragedies of jedi ruled... remember its like eye for an eye, tooth for an tooth that gives Rwoh to fear something in her past that child mind will grow as beacon of hope to end her life ...its instrument of vengeance that lead to chaos

I've been following the High Republic and wondering how the heck VR changed so much, so this is really food for thought. But my fave theory WAS that Yord would see the error of his ways and, at heart, I've transferred that to Vernestra

The Jedi really aren't acting like monks because if they were then they would be guided by the force and not politics. We're all heroes in our own story and compared to most I've had a fortunate life but there are highs and lows along the way. During my fifties I experienced trauma that had me thinking about killing another human being and I hated it . To put it simply I could choose the dark side or resist it and when your enemy has no empathy and tries to destroy what you love/value it's difficult to remain true to your values.
