I have felt like Jacob wrestling with God preparing for this lesson. First , Rebekah should be nominated for Mother of the Year award for teaching her son to lie , steal , deceive and dishonor his father. I guess I just struggle with Jacob being a Mamas boy. I guess I don’t think enough dads are teaching their sons to be men and the women are having to raise the sons . My take away is Gods plan will be accomplished and my God can use broken people to make straight lines. I keep thinking that if I was Esau coming in “about to die”, I would of kicked Jacobs butt and taken the stew. Just really having a hard time with this lesson.

You said Palestinians, I think you met Phillistines which I may or may not have spelled correctly. Love your lessons.

Hi Mike. I taught my SS class today using your video as my guide. A question came up that I couldn't answer and I hope you can help me. You made the statement that the two boys had grown up hearing the story of God telling Rebekah about the younger serving the older and I repeated what you said to my class. One of the class members said that she could not find anything in the Bible that says that Rebekah ever told the boys what God said about them and asked where it says that in the Bible. Later after class, I tried to find in the Bible where Rebekah told her two sons what God had said to her and that they grew up knowing the story. I didn't have any luck. Can you shed any light on where you found that Rebekah did tell her sons about her conversation with God? I need to be able to share that information with this classmate, as it appears that even though Esau "despised his birthright" and sold it to Jacob for a meal, Esau didn't know that God had told Rebekah that he (Esau) would serve Jacob, his younger brother. I really appreciate your clearing this up for me. Diane in NC

Hi Jim. Your class member is absolutely correct. Scripture does not explicitly say that Rebekah or Isaac shared God's message with Esau and Jacob. I need to do a better job of separating my opinion from what is explicitly stated in Scripture. If we aren't careful to do that, it becomes a slippery slope that will eventually lead to trouble. Please convey my apology. As far as my opinion on this matter, it comes from a general understanding of how God's promises were shared and passed down to the people of Israel. This was before the Torah and all of these stories were passed down orally until Moses wrote them down. In my opinion, God's message to Rebekah wasn't kept as a family secret. But that is just one person's opinion. Now that I've corrected that - you can have a very productive class discussion.

@@mhoward1138 Thanks very much, Mike. The ladies in this class range in age from mid-70s to 90s and are a joy to teach. I expect I learn more from them than I teach them many times! I agree with your understanding of these Scriptures and I will pass along your words. Your weekly videos are a big help to me. Diane
