Edom was forced into Judaism by John Hyrcanus (Maccabees 135-105 bce) is the only such recorded case of forced conversions to Judaism. The Bible doesn’t, the author used extra biblical sources in that instance. I cannot even imagine how old Shem would’ve been when he met Rebecca. However in Hebrew myth and legend it doesn’t matter as Shem is a reincarnation of Adam, and his soul keeps making an appearance time and time again. Shem will manifest again in the coming Jewish Messiah.
