I don't think Elegant is really playing Luigi to his full capability. Doing nothing but grab, fair-zair, and down-B makes it so easy for someone like Nicko to just wait and watch, and then dismantle you in under ten minutes in grands. Elegant's punish game is amazing as always, but his neutral is absolute garbage and I really think there's more he can do than just desperately spam the same 3 inputs for a whole game until he's 3-0'd.

Shulk's worst matchups are against non-sword characters: Snake, Palutena, Mega Man, Pikachu. Basically characters that are either fast enough to weave around the hitboxes Shulk is throwing out, or characters that neutralize his zoning game with zoning of their own. But Luigi's slow mobility and short hitboxes do make it very difficult for him to get in.

@@bardw.1542 This is a bit shallow of an explanation IMO. It's not outspacing Shulk that beats him. It's preventing him from putting out his large hitboxes and those characters you put out beat him three ways: 1) Grenades shutting down his stupidly wide hitboxes (cuz Snake is a special case) 2) It's more consistently stuffing out Shulk's horrible startup frames and bad mobility at a safe distance than simply just zoning (if he had better frames and movement, Palu's a lot easier of a matchup, hence Marcina and Chroy having a better chance than Shulk) 3) Preventing typical usage of Monado Arts (Shield Art is a death sentence against a Pikachu doing its vortex. You use Smash instead to escape. The rat has a better time contesting you with counter edgeguards than the rest of the cast and he can also easily gimp your recovery, with or without Jump art.) As for Mega Man, I can't say it's a losing matchup at top level because the Kameme-Kome matchup is less a character matchup and more of a player matchup disadvantage with Kameme just having better fundamentals. Not to mention all of his projectiles except for a thrown Leaf Shield can be neutralized by any of Shulk's sword hitboxes.

That's actually a better comparison to how the matchup goes IMO since I'd more or less rate both players being on the same level than the Kameme-Kome or even the Kameme-Nicko record which has been historically very much one-sided (considering Kameme is regarded as one of the very few contenders who can actually beat MkLeo). There's actually a handful of good Shulk players but they're either not as active, compete at the popular stages, or their sets are rarely streamed. I do know Tru4, Uncivil Ninja, and Ben have VODs up in KZbin and they're still grinding. Switchfest 2019 in particular had a good number of Shulks in the event (they were being noisy as hell too during the event hahaha) and matches on-stream.
