I've recently treated mine to a GRX groupset mated with Tiagra shifters, keeping it mechanical. Cracking bikes 👍

Beautiful ❤ I am lucky enough to have the 2022 CDF 853. It's the only thing I need haha.

This is a good example of sustainability and protecting the environment when you repair/rebuild versus replace your current bicycle.

That's one point I can feel good about now. I've had lots of carbon but not anymore. My bike is titanium, the bars, stem and seatpost are titanium. The wheels are aluminum. I'll stay as far away from carbon as is possible on any future builds or upgrades.

Some years ago, I bought a Giant with 11 speed 105. Passed the frame on but used the group set on many different builds. I recently bought a used 105 gearset for $250 Canadian (150 pounds?) that will last another 10 years. I use 10 speed with friction bar ends on vintage frames.

Yes good option and means the GS will last longer. Thanks for sharing

The best upgrade I've made to my 2015 Croix de Fer is a carbon fork. It is such a workhorse, perfect for commuting around Bristol this time of year

Why are the shifter sticking up in the air?
@veloworks9266Ай бұрын
The shifters are placed in the same place as the old shifters as this is the customers preferred position. When working on any bike we don’t change shifter or saddle position unless requested.

Sadly it's becoming more and more difficult to keep an older bike going. Both Sram and Shimano seem to have effectively abandoned anyone who wants to have a fully "mechanical" bike like this one. I believe all their groupsets are going over to hydraulic brakes and only 105 is non-electronic (and even with that, it's 12 speed). Will you be speccing Microshift Sword when the legacy Shimano stuff runs out?
@veloworks9266Ай бұрын
@@jonathangreen7111 hi thanks for watching and the comments. It’s not entirely accurate what you are saying because Shimano have recently bought out Cues which are mostly mechanical. Also, we believe in the pipeline there will be drop bar versions. Have a look at the Cues groupsets as they are a great option.

@veloworks9266 But all hydraulic disc brakes as far as I can see...

Nice video and totally agree about sustainability. Sustainability is really important in all spheres of life but to me definitely in cycling. We all go on about N+1 but upgrading an existing bike may sometimes be a good option. I was considering options for a dream bike and then realised I already had it in my 9 year old Brompton and I upgraded it to make it even better and created my dream bike which will see me out. I have a Genesis Longitude mtb and a cheap but surprisingly good road bike, so all angles are covered and really I have no reason to buy anything else apart from maintaining them and upgrading anything that needs replacing.

I swear, the argument I keep getting into with people is about carbon wheels verses aluminum wheels. I am against using carbon wheels anymore. I have had a few sets and I still have two sets, all have been disc brake. My latest three wheel builds have been with aluminum rims. I really can't tell a difference except that the aluminum rims are cheaper so if I had to replace a rim it would so much easier and cheaper than a carbon rim. The aero claims are a big reason I don't like carbon rims. For me it just means I am going to have to fight turbulence to keep driving in a straight line and maintain control of my bike. The aluminum rims I've built are actually lighter than the carbon wheels I own one set being the Campagnolo Shamal Carbons and the other is from BOYD. Aluminum was good enough for many many decades now all of a sudden these noobs want argue that it isn't any good compared to carbon. They are wasting their words on me I'll tell you.

Hi Raymond, thanks for sharing. Due to marketing in the bike industry you can find some cyclists have a very one dimensional view of cycling and therefore believe one way is right e.g carbon wheels, 1x groupsets etc. Carbon wheels do have their place but so do alloy wheels for many reasons including the ones you’ve said 👍
