Thank the heavens above for British rock!!! How brilliant all these British artists have been over the decades. Travelled to England from Australia in 2012 and walked the streets knowing that l was in the country that produced much musical finery. The English should be so proud of it's musical history. For me it's definately the seventies, especially the Glam Rock era. Rock on England, you rock and l breathed the air that they all breathed.

Remembering my late father and the time we were together here, I was about 3 years old and he took me for a ride in his Chevette on the lawn of the University of São Paulo, in São Paulo Brazil. He was younger than I am today and Genesis your favorite band! Sweet eternal moments! I'm glad that in 2020 we were able to be together at Phill's show in São Paulo and I was able to cry like a child just like Dad, as we both remembered the same moments! He passed in 2022, and this song reminds me of him as a young man, lovingly caring for his first child! These brief moments in life are worth eternity! Love u dad!

I hear that and I am immediately transported back to 1978, and it doesn't seem that long ago, and yet it's nearly 40 years ago. Incredible amount of time has passed by. Unbelievable. 1978 was a time of no computers. No satellite TV. No mobiles. There were only three TV channels in the UK. And VCRs were too expensive to buy so you had to watch TV when it was on. The biggest radio station in the country was Radio 1, and Grease was massive. And I fancied Olivia Newton-John. Ha ha.

We are from the lucky generation, the one where the world of music was at it's creative height. Grease? Sure if you want it, punk, rock, concept, disco, it was all there! Amazing days. This song & Reading festival in 1978, the memories are coming with me to the afterlife.

Stay with me My love I hope you'll always be Right here by my side if ever I needed you Oh my love In your arms I feel so safe and so secure Everyday is such a perfect day to spend Alone with you I will follow you will you follow me All the days and nights that we know will be I will stay with you will you stay with me Just one single tear in each passing year With the dark Oh I see so very clearly now All my fears are drifting by me so slowly now Fading away I can say The night is long but you are here Close at hand I'm better for the smile you give And while I live I will follow you will you follow me All the days and nights that we know will be I will stay with you will you stay with me Just one single tear in each passing year there will be I will follow you will you follow me All the days and nights that we know will be I will stay with you will you stay with me Just one single tear in each passing year I will follow you will you follow me All the days and nights that we know will be I will stay with you will you stay with me Just one single tear in each passing year

The lyrics were written by Mike Rutherford. There is a tendency to think that songs, lyrics especially, are written by the lead singer but this was not always the case with Genesis; especially after Gabriel left. Most Genesis songs were credited to the band as a whole, no matter who wrote them, though from "A Trick of the Tail" to "Abacac" they were credited to individual group members.

@@filevans The reason why I'm pointing this out is that a lot of people erroneously think that Genesis was basically a backing band for Phil. I'm sure Phil and Tony made contributions to this song, but it's essentially by Mike, words and melody (Mike WAS a great melodist too!). Now a song like Please Don't Ask, for example, is mainly by Phil Collins.
