I bought a top of the line ‘22 3.3t Sport Prestige AWD. I have to disagree with you about the styling, as I think it is one of the best looking cars on the road. The power is amazing, it has a terrific sound system, and the interior is absolutely stunning. If I had to complain about a few things, I would say that it needs interior ambient lighting, and it is slightly difficult to get in and out of. Otherwise I am absolutely in love with it and chose it over a TLX Type-S and BMW M340i.

I almost picked this car when I was car shopping too. Great power - intoxicating, even, and super nice stitching in the interior. The style is unique but perhaps not my cup of tea. I see these on the road a lot and think "Wow, it's unique." I ended up with an IS 350 F Sport instead, mainly due to the seating position and the feeling of solidity in that car. Yeah it's slower than the G70, but it sounds better and is the only NA premium sport sedan these days. But I still think about the G70 sometimes - it was really a close call.

TLX is heavier, slower and FWD based - not in the same league, except for the price. Q50 is ancient and at this point it's rather a living reminder of what a waste Infiniti has become ('11 m37 owner here). S60 is kinda similar to TLX, except it's more of a luxury rather then sports product. Gulia is the only real comparison here, but to get that QV you'll have to go almost +50% of G70 price. You'll get much more performance though, but that's in AMG/M territory.

i had one of these as a loaner when I had my GV70 in for routine maintenance (I LOVE my GV70, your review was completely on point), and the one thing I feel like no one mentions is how low the G70 is. I've never been in a car where I sat lower than this one. I'm 6'3", I put the seat as low as it would go and my eyes were eye level or lower than the mirrors on cars. Not trucks, but I'm talking pulling up next to a BMW and your eye level is their mirror. It was amazing. The only car I parked next to with the same roof height and mirror height as the G70 was a Mini. Everything else this car was lower and you'd never know it just by walking by and looking at it.

@@layne4376 "Is It A Driver's Car? A car might be executed well, but if it leaves you with a sense of "meh," is it still a good car? Most people would say, "Yes, of course." And we agree. But sometimes that isn't quite enough to satisfy, especially when we've come to expect a level of personality from Mazda products. Instead of feeling alive and on its toes, the 2021 Mazda 3 Turbo feels sedate. The brake pedal is mushy; instead of initial bite coming right near the top of the pedal's travel, you find an inch or so of travel before the binders affect much deceleration. This dulls the driving experience and lowers confidence in the car's reflexes. True hot hatches have sharp responses and feedback to tell you they were developed in part by beating them within an inch of their mechanical lives, so as to to make them as engaging and entertaining as possible. But that's not present here; in fact, it feels like a thick layer of latency-exaggerating rubber has worked its way into the Mazda's nooks and crannies.” MotorTrend on the 3 turbo 😆😂😂 "On the whole, the Sonata N Line is truly excellent. In fact, the result of all the work Hyundai and its N Line team did is so impressive that anything less than a BMW M3 or Audi RS5 would have the devil's own job of shaking you loose on a twisty bit of back road. You can't say that about a Camry TRD. So is this hot Hyundai hot enough? For most, the answer is an emphatic yes. We just know it's only a few parts and some N special sauce shy of something game changing.”- M/T Bro the Mazdas AWD system still provides less grip on a skid pad. I was between this and an IS350 because I care about reliability and longevity and this is the best it gets for roughly ~$53k. Also, I didn’t want the negative brand stereotypes of BMW, Audi, Mercedes etc. I was coming from a 2013 Infiniti G37, and this car is faster, smoother, looks better and feels very much more planted. Two years ago, I almost bought a G70 manual. It wasn't selling, so the dealership discounted it by $5000 off MSRP, which brought it down to about $33,000. Unfortunately, they were about $600 low on the KBB on my trade in, so I walked. Two years later and I still regret it! Not as quick as the V6, but I think it would have been fun.

@TestDrive - Would you rather prefer this G70 3.3T over the IS500? The G70 seems to be the only alt comparable to the Lexus IS (in the sense that they share similar dimensions, sharp design, similar pricing (more value and tech in the G70 of course) both RWD based, near equal reliability, and both Asian). Would be nice to hear your perspective on it. Like many, I've narrowed down my choices to these two but wondering if the IS500 is worth the hype and the extra $6 - 7K it warrants for the V8. Thanks!

As a previous 2017 is350 owner and current 2020 G70 3.3t owner. The Lexus is better built, feels higher quality, and more solid. The Lexus dealer experience is worlds ahead of a Hyundai dealer. Ventilated seats and power are better on the G70 vs is350. The lane assist on the G70 vs my is350 is much better, G70 almost drives itself, pretty cool. I'm actually quite surprised you guys found the TLX the closest non-German competitor to the G70. I found them to be similar in nominal power, but they drive very differently. The TLX felt limited by its FWD platform and felt very boaty in daily driving, especially with the monumental turn radius. The SH-AWD is able to pull things together when you absolutely throw it into a corner, but it's really not a nimble car in tighter driving environments (urban) or at 50% throttle input. I suppose a mountain road is where you're least likely to notice a difference. I actually think the IS 350 AWD is the closest competitor. G70 has the better engine & transmission by far, but they're otherwise close in price, sound excellent, and offer rear biased AWD. The target buyer is just deciding between the reliability & impressive styling of the NA V6 Lexus platform or the better value of the new kid on the block, with little interest in the expenses that come with the German options. The IS is a much more nimble feeling car than the TLX Type S, however, at the expense of straight-line speed. The super-aggressive auto upshifting of the TLX also makes the paddles borderline useless for anyone who values them. It's at least defeatable in the IS with traction control off.

I test drove a '22 GV70 3.5. I found in comfort mode there was too much lag in engine responsiveness which was overcompensated for in sport mode. A step between comfort and sport would be nice. Definitely a much larger lag win sport than on a BMW M340i.

I just purchased the Sports Prestige in Siberian Ice. I specifically chose that color because I couldn't get the limited edition matte paint, which i've learned was a pain in the ass to maintain without any convenience. Kia has the stinger in their "Ceramic Grey" which is much closer to that porsche color, but I think Genesis wanted to have their own take of the Porsche Grey color, but added a bit of blue. I really like the siberian ice color, (which is my color) but my biggest gripe is that it's almost all there. In my MK7 Golf R, everything was perfect. Climate controls were easy to get to, interior was super plush, the design of the interior was quite amazing. The Temperature read out was clear and obvious regardless of infotainment, and the cubby can be covered so you don't have to see a mess. In the Genesis, they gave you a HUGE cubby for nothing but your phone, and you can't cover it up. The climate controls are displayed on the infotainment, and you need to engage (move it up and down) to display it, but if you're reversing, you have to manually disable the cameras to see it. The "touch lock" feature is almost there, you just have to be there for a little bit longer. on my golf, it worked 100% of the time with just a slight touch. I'm not a big fan of the genesis interior design, it's just mediocre. The materials are excellent though.

Had a '22 G70 2.0 for a short time. Very nice car. What's lost here is the manufacturer angle. At least in the midwest it's horrible. No real Genesis stand alone dealerships. Lumped in with Hyundai. Zero premium experience and their website and customer service is equally bad. The concierge experience is non-existent and takes weeks to get th simplest service appt. Could not get my title from 'Hyundai Finance' so had the dealer buy it back from me. Great car, horrible sales and service and nothing premium except the price.

This is not the Prestige trim due to no Brembo brakes nd no LSD. I think all upper trims G70s should come with the 3D gauge cluster!
@TheRedRaven_
@TheRedRaven_ 2 жыл бұрын
I actually opt for not having the 3D cluster. Test drive a GV70 with the 3D cluster, you will find a little strange black box jutting out of the cluster with two red dots, it just doesn't flow well with the cluster, looks like it was implemented last second. Once they implement that eye tracking software flush into the cluster, then I will complain.

Getting a fixed suspension system right used to just be how you made a good handling car. I think this whole adaptive damper thing is mostly a sham. I can understand certain applications of it, but I think it's become a crutch for the auto industry.
@SeanyMacks
@SeanyMacks 2 жыл бұрын
It's not a sham at all. It allows the suspension to be firm and controlled when you are having fun but comfortable when you are just cruising.
@DarkHelmet1976
@DarkHelmet1976 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure what you mean when you say "sham." Are you suggesting adaptive suspensions don't work like the manufacturers claim they do? Are you arguing that an adaptive suspension (like all-season tires) necessarily make compromises that lessen top end performance? And how is it a "crutch?" In what way have automakers become dependent on this feature?

Nice review. Torn between this and the Lexus IS. Both around $48K. Both not that great with the back seat space - but then I prefer a 2 dr and the only 2 dr GT that is available and comfortable is the Lexus RC. The only RC currently available is 350F which is close to $60K. Too bad Stinger done and by the time I’m looking for a new car in early 2024 there will be no new Stingers.

I'd rather get a Stinger (before '22) now and wait till they update or release the 2nd get G70 - I love the look, but don't see much point untill they update the engine options to other Genesis models (2.5 and 3.5) Even based on dual injection alone. 2.0 and 3.3 are basically legacy engines, regardless of how good they are, just makes no sense to pick them right before they are replaced with new ones. So I'd say not just yet. With how fast Genesis is moving, the engine upgrade shouldn't be long.
@Tsand4

I agree with you somewhat. They def should have put the 2.5 in base G70. But the 3.3tt is butter smooth and is a beast.the 3.5tt only makes 10hp more it makes like 23lb ft tq more. The new motors do have port injection too which really helps with carbon buildup. But when tuners get a hold of them they’ll really take advantage of the port injection.

@@rosgoncharuk2403 All ICE is legacy and especially with Genesis. The 3.3T is a beast and isn't going away in the G70 until it goes electric in a couple years. Then the 3.5T will be gone too... so your point is kinda moot.
