My father just had a heart attack & passed away and I'm sitting here balling my eyes out missing him so fucking much. He was one of my best friends and im so grateful he was my father. He introduced me to music since I was a day old. Led zeppelin played in my house everyday. Genesis, pink Floyd, Hendricks were his favorites but he loved all of it ...he loved life, everyday was beautiful, he loved my mom more then anything in this world and spent 49 years showing her everyday. ❤ I remember him telling me almost everyday that he loved her more then the last. He would read me lord of the rings when I was a kid and taught me to drive in his lap and fish and ride my bike, he was such a good man. I hate that people grow up without a dad. Breaks my heart💔 I love you Dad I'll make proud big man. Rest in peace Papa

Legendary! My favorite Album to be honest! Such an iconic track, and album overall. Extremely underrated, and filled with emotion. Every track has a story to tell, and that's what makes this album so great. One of my favorite all-time Genesis songs, and one that brings many memories. They'll never be anything like Genesis, or Phil Collins, Truly one of a kind. Been going years listening to this, and it never gets old. Legendary. "No Son Of Mine" A track that is truly iconic, with such/interesting lyrics, instrumental and emotions, a great start to the premiere of the album, and one of Genesis' most legendary hits. A Masterpiece, and Phil's greatest goodbye to Genesis. 👑👑👑

Lyrics to this icon of a track; 👑👑👑 Well the key to my survival Was never in much doubt The question was: how I could keep sane Trying to find a way out? Things were never easy for me Peace of mind was hard to find And I needed a place where I could hide Somewhere I could call mine I didn't think much about it 'Til it started happening all the time Soon I was living with the fear everyday Of what might happen that night I couldn't stand to hear the crying Of my mother And I remember when I swore that that would be the Last they'd see of me And I never went home again They say that time is a healer And now my wounds are not the same I rang the bell with my heart in my mouth I had to hear what he'd say He sat me down to talk to me He looked me straight in the eyes He said You're no son, you're no son of mine You're no son, you're no son of mine You walked out, you left us behind And you're no son, you're no son of mine Oh, his words how they hurt me I'll never forget it And as the time, it went by I lived to regret it You're no son, you're no son of mine But where should I go And what should I do? You're no son, you're no son of mine But I came here for help Oh I came here for you Well the years they passed so slowly I thought about him everyday What would I do, if we passed on the street Would I keep running away? In and out of hiding places Soon I'd have to face the facts We'd have to sit down and talk it over And that would mean going back They say that time is a healer And now my wounds are not the same But I rang that bell with my heart in my mouth I had to hear what he'd say He sat me down to talk to me And he looked me straight in the eyes He said You're no son, you're no son of mine You're no son, you're no son of mine When you walked out you left us behind And you're no son, you're no son of mine Oh, his words how they hurt me I'll never forget it And as the time, it went by I lived to regret it You're no son, you're no son of mine But where should I go and what should I do? You're no son, you're no son of mine Well I came here for help, oh I was looking for you You're no son, you're no son of mine oh You're no son ha yeah, ha yeah, ha yeah, ha yeah, ha yeah You're no son, you're no son of mine Oh, oh Oh, oh Oh, oh Oh, oh Oh, oh Oh, oh Oh, oh You're no son of mine (oh, oh) Oh, oh (you're no son of mine) You're no son (oh, oh), you're no son of mine (oh, oh) Oh, oh Oh, oh Oh, oh You're no son of mine (oh, oh) Oh, oh Oh, oh Oh, oh Oh, oh Oh, oh Oh, oh

The track didn't age well at all... all I can hear is the overly loud, gated-80s-reverb snare drum. But thanks for posting the cryptic lyrics. Anyway, sorry for the honesty. I do like Phil and Genesis a lot, but felt they were relying too much on past musical gestures on this album and not reinventing anymore as much.

Absolutely. I was a kid first hearing this album from my parents and this song always struck me. Hits even harder now. It’s funny how the chorus has an uplifting tone musically, but is somewhat a depressing lyric from one point of view, but in another way its also relieving as the dad is a pos and I wouldn’t want to be his son anyways. Very traumatic music video they made. What makes this traumatic is at the begining with the tick tock of the clock. I barely remember watching the video growing up, I was about 5 or 6. I often saw the video on VH1. Since I was so young I didnt really understand the meaning behind the song. I would remember split second pieces of this video but couldnt think of the name of the song. One day about 10 yrs later I herd the song playing on the radio in my parents vehicle, it kind of spooked me a little. After that I forgot about the song. Then yrs later I found the music video on here so I decided to watch it. Man was that a mistake...The song started with that tick tock immediatly I started to cry. To this day I get depressed if I think about this song.

Yes it's a great album but for me their early albums were much more consistent, no boring tracks like Dreaming In Your Sleep and Hold on My Heart.

@@keithjones7390 I definitely respect your opinon but I don't agree. I also love the earlier stuff like the Knife , the musical box and that killer track which goes by the name of Supper's Ready as well as their huge masterpiece The Lamb lies down on broadway. However, there were also tracks that were better than others there as well and Hold on my heart and driving the last spike are by no means boring!
@keithjones73902 жыл бұрын
I didn't suggest that Driving the Last Spike was boring, it's one of the highlights of the album. My thoughts are that the later albums were just a little big patchy with some weaker songs than those on the albums such as Foxtrot and The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway.

"Well the keeeeeeeeeeeeeey to myyyyyyyyyyyyyyy surviiiiiiiiiival" "Things were never eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeasy for me" "I didn't think much abouuuuuuuuuuuuut it" "till' tstart'd ha-ppenin' aaaaaaaaaall the time" Some of my least favorite voice inflections in Genesis, yet, i think that there's a bigger problem, the chorus part shouldn't sound that "epic" is weird, and i say this because i imagine that those are "epic" chords, but in reality they sound closer to "happy" chords, and Tony Banks knows about this, yet that part sounds too happy for me, its like the father is happy to call his son "not of his", its weird. I don't remember being this harsh on any other song in this journey, its still a fine song, i just feel like it checks certain Genesis marks but misses other basic stuff that i don't get how that even happened, even weirder is that they didn't stop playing it in its entirety after its release, there has to be something more to this song besides the cool "elephant sound" as a gimmick or special thing, there has to be a weird chord, hidden melody or something, there's always something more.
