There are a lot of bands i love a lot but go through stages where i give them a break. With Genesis, i never get tired of listening to them. And i am not even familiar with everything they did. It took me years to really appreciate this album because if i am not getting into Wind And Wuthering, then never mind i'll go listen to Foxtrot for the zillionth time. It was only recently i properly listened to Cul de Sac from Duke and now it's one of my favourites.

Fifty thousand men were sent to do the will of one. His claim was phrased quite simply, though he never voiced it loud, I am he, the chosen one. In his name they could slaughter, for his name they could die. Though many there were believed in him, still more were sure he lied, But they'll fight the battle on. Then one whose faith had died Fled back up the mountainside, But before the top was made, A misplaced footfall made him stray From the path prepared for him. Off of the mountain, On to a wilderness of ice. This unexpected vision made them stand and shake with fear, But nothing was his fright compared with those who saw him appear. Terror filled their minds with awe. Simple were the folk who lived Upon this frozen wave. So not surprising was their thought, This is he, God's chosen one, Who's come to save us from All our oppressors. We shall be kings on this world. Follow me! I'll play the game you want me, Until I find a way back home. Follow me! I give you strength inside you, Courage to win your battles - No, no, no, this can't go on, This will be all that I fled from. Let me rest for a while. He walked into a valley, All alone. There he talked with water, and then with the vine. They leave me no choice. I must lead them to glory or most likely to death. They traveled cross the plateau of ice, up to its edge. Then they crossed a mountain range and saw the final plain. Still he urged the people on. Then, on a distant slope, He observed one without hope Flee back up the mountainside. He thought he recognized him by his walk, And by the way he fell, And by the way he Stood up, and vanished into air

A lot of my life's memories starting at age 15 are in these Genesis songs. Just about all their albums. As a professional musician myself I have such deep appreciation for their musical abilities as Instrumentalists. Their song writing is just impeccable. Tony Banks is so underrated as a keyboard player, and composer, especially since he and Mike Rutherford wrote the majority of Genesis music. I had the privilege of playing and recording with their long time touring drummer, Chester Thompson. What a great guy, and great to hear the inside stories from him about Genesis. I've known Chester for about 20 years now.

Wind & Wuthering represents a great leap in quality in the music of Genesis, it is of a complexity ahead of its time. In fact, who listens to it for the first time, it seems to him from the 80s and it is from 1976, released months after A Trink Of The Tail, close in time but very different. It's closer to another super album, Duke which is just from 1980.

This album was my bedfellow for my entire undergrad studies in the late 70's. I'm sorry but who but Collins as an artist brought life to Judeo-Christian and classical intellectual tradition in song and reflection. His musical prose soars without being haughty. This album captured the totally assessable Gospel as well as the great chasm that separates God from mere men. Collins dares us to believe, that we must beleive.

After listening to the CD version (no improvement of bass quality so it's probably the acoustics of this room), I realized another thing with this song I have listened to for what? 45 years? At the end when he sees himself vanish into air, he would realize that he's now leading their enemies to a fight against the army he deserted at the beginning. Such a deep song yet presented in such a way that it's deceiving and you don't realize it all until you really spend time reflecting on the lyrics. So interestingly depicted. Typical Genesis! Bravo!
