Saw them last night in Manchester. Very emotional seeing Phil looking so physically limited but their performance was amazing. First saw them as a 19 year old on the invisible touch tour in 1987 as a student. Brought back great memories. True musicians and Nick Collins is a credit to his Dad. 🥰

Been going through looking at all the clips of the 2021 show. Musically, the band are awesome as usual. It brought a lump to my throat, Phil Collins air drumming while watching his son performing. I know they have done this for the diehard fans, for the crew and as a final closing chapter. But this is a bittersweet farewell. So sad to see Phil Collins like this. They didn't have to go out and do this tour. Seen Genesis live several times in the last 45 years. They were one of the best live bands in the world. Personally, I could have done without this tour. My memories would have still been intact. Thanks for a lifetime of music which will forever remain close to my heart.,

I don't go to a Genesis concert (or anyone) to see them 'prancing' around on stage. I go to see and hear them play their instruments and specifically in Phil's case to hear him sing. As long as his voice is still strong (and it is) then it's all good. I mean, they said it themselves - they can't dance. :-)

It doesn't sound bad, considering phil's health issues. Let's appreciate the fact that the band are trying to give it a last try with Phil on vocals, perhaps as a way for him to retire in style. Who knows, maybe they are doing this as a fun way to end an era in the band's history.

Why didn't they pick songs with long instrumentals like One For The Vine, Dance On a Volcano, The Lady Lies, Keep It Dark, Duke's Travels, The Brazilian, The Musical Box, etc. instead of playing the same stuff as on the last tour totally exposing Phil's dead voice the whole time?
@keviniles87483 жыл бұрын
I'm guessing because they didn't want Phil just sitting there with nothing to do for long periods. Since he can't play drums during the instrumentals like he used to it would be awkward for him to just be there in the chair waiting.

@@C_J__ Totally agree - see Hackett's band three times now. Doing all the old Genesis stuff. Thought there Second Out gig was the weakest so far. I thought the first set was best - really excellent. The Seconds Out set lacked a certain fire, enegry and aggression. It was a bit too safe sometimes. Great drummer but I felt was holding back. Same with the singer. Great on the lower register tunes but higher more aggressive tunes lacked the passion - Gabriel and Collins would normally give.
@neilkendall98573 жыл бұрын
As much as I love Genesis, this just doesn't sound right with the keys of the songs dropped so low. Some of the keys are as much as 5 semitones lower here. A shadow of the group they were in the 80s and early 90s, sadly. Rather than doing a tour and butchering their classic songs, I'd rather they make a new album or some new singles. At least in the studio, they can perform some trickery on Phil's voice to get it sounding right.
@keithyoung42903 жыл бұрын
Yes - its painful to watch Phil Collins like this. They should have stayed at home and just made an album. Phil is normally the life and soul of any show. I feel sorry of the other members of the band. This is indeed a rather sad, tarnished farewell. Full credit to Phil's son for doing a grand job on the drums. I loved Classic Genesis. I'm sorry, it really hurts to say this, I appreciate that PC has been through some issues, but in fairness, They did their Farewell Tour 13 years ago. Its not the Genesis I fell in love with and spent from the age of 15 following, 40 plua years takes it toll on us all... I don't run up and down roofs anymore, because I can't....I manage a rock band that can play, perform and put on a live show that puts this to shame. But it's genesis and its PC so let's hope in the end they can retire and leave us with the memories of them in their day... Either with Collins Genesis or In my opinion Peter Gabriel's Genesis.
