Does Ground news have a non-US mode/Netherlands/Ireland/European mode? I'd hate getting bombarded with even more US news then I already am, and I'd prefer not to have a bias detector which just goes from right wing to extreme far right wing, that would be pretty useless to me even though it's the main draw.

Hey this is a completely random question but I was watching some of your videos and you bring up the point of the Bible being interpreted many ways as evidence against God's existence? I was wondering what method of communication you were talking about that would be interpreted the exact same way for everyone, because I don't understand how that would happen

When asked how to get to "hell" in Zoroastrianism, "sexual sins" are mentioned, and then the first thing used to describe this vague concept is sex outside of marriage - not rape or sexual assault. A lot of religions seem to get their priorities wrong when it comes to sex and relationships.

Uh no. Zorostrianism at first had no place to go after death and instead you had to do good things, help others and have "good thoughts" so you would be remembered by others and then supposedly abrahamic influence creeped in and at this point if you had commited bad deeds, had bad thoughts and harmed others, you would be eaten by demons/ turned into one or something to that extent. I've lived in Japan for nearly 20 years and never fail to find it fascinating how most Japanese people say they are not religious at all, despite all of the Shinto and Buddhist rituals and ceremonies they do throughout their lives, even in every day life. Even many of the superstitions and beliefs (such as not wanting the head of your bed to be facing north) are rooted in religion. Also the whole idea of tsukumogami, where literally anything (from rocks to trees to swords to brushes) could potentially become a kami if it gains enough "spiritual energy." I'm an atheist, but I really love the general mindset toward religion here and diligently go to shrines on New Year's (and other times) to ask for good luck.
@utenatenjou2139

IHMO, I see this as western's idea of religion vs Japanese regarding rituals. Religion rituals can be considered closer to traditions, yes it rooted in religions. Giving example, like I you a believer of Abraham religion you don't participate with pagan's activities. In reverse term, being an Atheist in Eastern society doesn't' have a dogma that you DO NOT participate in religion traditions. (Note: this can be viewed as Half-ass, hypocrisy)

Alright look if you're a committed and honest Atheist you would denounce a meaning of life look a meaning of life is something that goes along with religion it's not provided by Atheism. A Atheist saying they believe in a meaning of life is like me as a Christian saying I believe in reincarnation or like a Muslim bowing to a statue of Bhudda just don't go together or even make since so if you're a real legit Atheist not only should you admit that as a Atheist you don't believe life don't mean anything but act like it my scriptures tell me faith without works is dead but it also says without faith it is impossible to please God. I mean if you are a Atheist not only admit you don't believe in a meaning of life but also act on it meaning you don't care about food , love , family , bedding , health , safety , medical care , hygen , sanitation ect. Also you wouldn't care if you're sick or healthy. When it comes down to morality Atheism doesn't have that yes there are Atheists that have there own morals but let's be honest Atheism is silent on what is right or wrong or okay meaning as a Atheist it's not right or wrong or okay if you donate clothes to the homeless or spit in a homeless person's face because they disgust you or say hello to someone you just met or punch in there face because you find them repulsive or tell your spouse you love her or commit adultery on a daily basis. I consider Atheism to be a form of rebellion and denial. Atheism has no rules on love , family , gender , violence , marriage , faithfulness , lust , sexuality , reproduction , witchcraft , expression ect so yes Atheism/Agnostism is disorder and confusion no accountability. As for a afterlife it exists because of the anatomy of the body is spirit , soul and body. The body is carnal it gets ichy , sick , hungry , smelly , thirty , tired , ect it's carnal able to see , makes sounds and be touched. the Spirit is you. You are not your body or your soul your a spirit being your soul is your thinker , chooser , will , filler ect. When a person dies they can't see or hear or touch of think or eat or drink or anything like that why because there spirit and soul is absent regardless of if you're buried or cremated your spirit and soul leaves after you die either goes to Heaven or Hell a place you can't take a mortal body. There is One God existing in three persons not three Gods but like a way of life or way of existence like this God is not like matter like electricity , fire , heat , stone , ect. God is someone we all have a relationship with even many Atheists curse God out as well as say oh my God. Okay Jesus is God lower case g okay let me explain God yes God is a spirit unseen to the living everywhere at the same time. Okay let's define what a God is a God in a religious context is a deity capital God. In some contexts a god lower case g is a person who is very gifted and talented. God choose to manifest his presence in the flesh and form a person you see the reason why Jesus is god but he was able to die on the cross is because when a person is in the flesh it's limited like this generally speaking God can't die but the flesh can. When Jesus was on earth he did great works preached the gospel , cast out demons , heal the sick , raised the dead , ect it wasn't his flesh doing it. It was the Spirit of God working in the body doing it. Jesus said i do nothing of my own meaning it's not his flesh and blood doing it. It's the spirit of God in him. You see God is not limited like we are God doesn't need to sleep or eat or drink liquids or learn or grow or sweat or use the bathroom so God can do things we can't do God is not limited by location or reality like we are. It was the same Spirit that raised the body up from the dead to show the world they can have hope in God. The Holy Spirit is the mediator.

There is no equivalent of hell in Finnic mythology, but the conditions in the Finnic afterlife, i.e. the underworld, are like in hell, but according to Finnic mythology, the dead actually like it and feel cozy and comfortable there. They sleep on a stone in cold, dark and damp rooms and the food is spoiled and the beer is swarming with worms, but they have forever lasting and never ending feasts in the Tuonela hall. The downside is that you have to spend eternity in the state and conditions you were in at the time of your death, for example those who drowned are wet and those who burned have burns and etc, but it is proof for the ferry maiden of Tuonela river that you are dead (otherwise, no access and no entry). However, this may be influenced by the view that no person is good or bad, but that all people are gray and morally vague.

I appreciate Dan pointing out the tension in the LDS soteriology. One thing he didn't mention is that outer darkness is often spoken as being reserved for someone leaving the faith. It's used as a manipulation tactic to either keep Mormons in active membership or shame those that have left. I'm not saying this off-hand; these are things that have been told to me by family and friends after I left the faith.
@MDaggatt
@MDaggatt Ай бұрын
This is might be biased because I'm in a very liberal area and fairly young, but I was taught that outer darkness is for anyone who had an undeniable testament of Christ and still chose to leave the faith and speak out against it, so basically only an apostle or prophet who then chose to leave and become anti-mormon could go to outer darkness.

@@fireblossom9618 Back in the 16th century when Christianity was introduced to Japan by the Portuguese there was a huge number of conversions to it especially in the south. Whole clans like the Satsuma converted and the central government became so alarmed that they initiated one of the most vicious persecutions of Christians in all of history - it made the ancient Romans look like amateurs! People thrown into volcanoes and all that but Christianity went underground and in the process metamorphosed into a different religion. Then Japan was opened up in the mid 19th century and missionaries came back this time mainly American, British and Protestant. Catholicism continued however and the center of Catholicism in Japan was the southern city of Nagasaki - yes the city obliterated by the A bomb that actually was dropped right on top of the Catholic cathedral! Very easily you can enter other homo sapien's brains due to peoples being parallel-perpendicular universes, and change the past, present, and future by hopping between cultures. In addition, using backwards long jumps makes you go faster in time from your perspective, of which your perspective is what the speedrun is about, not others. Paradoxically if you want to waste time you can infinite bunny hop forwards for going back in time, and going up from gravitational centers of mass goes within the future and falling downward reverses time. Make sure you avoid being completly still because that will make time be slower for you.

I really appreciate that you pointed out that it’s about ritual milestones, not belief or official/institutional affiliation. If I had to point to specific Shinto rituals that people can be “born” into, it’s the first shrine visit (hatsumiya mairi) and coming of age (shichigosan-sai). Shinto did invent weddings, and even funerals, MUCH later on but Buddhism still has the latter on lock. 😅

Regarding Tyr and Frey being considered minor gods in the Norse mythology today: Some archaeologists and historians who work with this period have argued that they might have been more important during an earlier period or that perhaps most of their stories just didn't survive until today. In Denmark at least, Tyr seems to have been a very important god at some point. Tyr gave name to tuesday (tirsdag in danish) and some city names seem to be derived from Tyrs name as well (Thisted, Thise, Thy). Frey also gave name to friday (fredag in danish) and thus may also have been more important at some point. I tend to agree with those who argue for this as it seems - to me at least - that tuesday and friday would not have been named after those two gods if other gods that are more well known today were also more important than them.

One of *my favourite versions of divine after death punishment and reward,* is that of the 18th century Swedish Christian sect Swedenborgianism, based on the divine revelations of Emanuel Swedenborg. It's 40+ years since I read his revelations, so I won't go into details, but essentially, you continue to *"live on" in afterlife with a ADHD version of the personality you had while living.* So a warmonger "live" on in constant war in afterlife, a person that lived a hollow and artificial life, "live" an even more hollow and artificial afterlife, if you were a shrew, you are an even angrier persion in afterlife, and if you lived a good and productive life, you "live" on as an even more good and productive person, with an even more fulfilling afterlife. *What make his revelations hilarious,* is they depict how a lot of actual historical, and mythical, persons live on in afterlife, it's pure comedy. *Many of the persons whose afterlife are depicted, was contemporary people that Emanuel Swedenborg had met in life.* It's often pure schadenfreude. Many of the persons, whose afterlife Emanuel Swedenborg depicted, was part of the contemporary Swedish nationalistic propaganda. So the religion was shortlived in Sweden, since it criticised a lot of national "heroes". There have been Swedish attempts at revival, many of less serious nature, but as far as I know, there are no practioners in Sweden today. But, the Swedenborgian religion, at least until the 1970's, continued to have some popularity in some parts of Africa. Supposedly because it resembled local pre-Christian beliefs and practices. If you are forced to convert to Christianity, why not convert to a sect that share similar beliefs as those you already have, and has religious practices similar to those you already practice.

I guess that's the hellish part. It's in Aomori prefecture, where no foreigners go, but I highly recommend it. It's called Osorezan (恐山), or Mount Osore.

Former Mormon here. That drawing ( 7:36 ) isn’t the one he’s referring to and the places emphasized in this drawing are the top and lowest kingdoms in the three degrees/levels of heaven which come into play after the final judgement. This drawing is a bastardized or just incomplete version that’s missing the Spirit World on Earth. Mormons believe that at death, our spirit passes through a veil (which prevents mortals from seeing spirits) into the Spirit World-and this exists all around us on Earth (when the veil is thinned, mortals can see spirits). Those who die who are righteous, who already know and accept the restored gospel (as taught by Mormons) are in spirit paradise. Those who don’t meet all 3 of those criteria above go to “spirit prison” to either be taught the restored gospel for the first time (or maybe given another chance to accept it) OR don’t accept it wait it out until their designated resurrection time (of which there are two main resurrection events yet to come-one at Christ’s second coming, and one at the end of Christ’s thousand year reign, right before the final judgement.) Or if just unrighteous and stubborn about remaining, that’s the same thing as not accepting it. Those who are unrighteous and knew the gospel and accept it in mortality, must suffer for their own sins; Christ’s sacrifice doesn’t pay for their sins. I don’t defend it, but I did once believe it thoroughly and knew all the explanations for most any question this fascinating theology may elicit from non-members, as we would refer to those outside our group (our Jew-vs-Gentile-equivalent moniker).

I guess Dan is a really good example of how analysis skills and critical thinking skills are not the same thing. You can have incredible skills in reading the text and taking in the finer points, comparing and cross referencing like Dan does, and still be a Mormon.

I grew up mormon and Dan was right in the fact that everyone seems to blur the line of how to get into outer darkness. From what I was taught, you had to essentially "meet god" or received a full confirmation of god/the gospel (eg. Prophets) and then entirely reject it. They would often provide Judas as an example of this They taught me it was essentially impossible for me to qualify for outer darkness. Even if i became a serial killer I would be sent to the lowest degree of heaven (telestial kingdom)

I'm reminded of Skyrim where the Dragonborn could probably sell their soul off to all the Daedric Princes... and then probably walk into Sovngarde when they die if they're a Nord...

Apparently this can happen in DnD. Gods can and will fight over you if you fit into multiple spheres of influence (the god of your work, vs a god you personally worshipped, etc) typically whatever god you were "closest" to would be the winner, but it honestly made me want make a character who worships all the gods whenever applicable
@stylesrj
@stylesrj Ай бұрын
@@myheartismadeofstars Well, there are some gods that demand praise and worship without being a devout follower of them. For example, I don't think Umberlee demands every sailor be her priest or disciple, etc. but she does demand that people respect her powers. Otherwise I don't think any Paladin could travel by boat... And now I wonder if that could be a character type... the Paladin so devout to their god they refuse to respect any other and are enemies of the gods of natural disasters accordingly...

Something that Jackson Crawford left out was that certain ways that you lived could have you end up in certain Gods' halls (according to some sorces). For example there is one story in which Odin is trying to tease Thor that he receives the common working man in his hall whereas Odin receives kings and warriors. There's another examplaining how actually half of the battle slain actually go to Valhöl with Odin whereas the other half go to Sessrúmnir the hall of Freyja in Fólkvangr .
