I'm a garage door guy. I've installed a lot of these Genie wall mount openers. I installed 3 last week. I prefer them over the Liftmasters. The shuddering is the opener sensing cable tension and making sure you don't throw a cable off of the drum. Since you have a high lift door, I would just remove the cable keepers. Since you have a little more than one door section hanging down below the radius, there is sufficient weight pulling on the cables. I install pusher springs on all my standard radius installations. Doors are going to float a little side to side. There are those little white spacers included that are to snap onto the bottom rollers to help center the door in the track. I would erase the wall button from the memory and reprogram it. That might solve the issue of it not working every time. Also, the tube the springs are mounted on is called a torsion tube. Your original Craftsman photo eyes would have had led lights also. I suspect someone replaced them with newer sensors in old brackets, and the lights were now on the back side.

Good video ! I also installed one. But I ran into a problem that I couldn’t solve. The door goes up well. And it moves down first with small jerks, and then evenly. The 2 torsion springs are adjusted correctly according to the instructions. The door is easily lifted by hand and remains stationary 3 feet from the floor.

A kind suggestion to like kind of garage door openers. Problem? We need as tight as we can provide to couple the collet at the end of a 9 or 17 feet torque pipe and not crunched it. Solution ? Insert a short section of solid rod (acting as a backing rod) into the torque pipe with matching ID to OD. This will prevent over pinch that 17 ft torque pipe.

That is a great idea. If mine ever slips, I will do that.

The new belt drive ceiling units, especially those from Genie, are incredibly easy to install. I did it myself in about an hour, including installing the new rail front bracket and modifying the existing angle struts to fit the new unit (I have a very low garage ceiling 😒). They are also very quiet. Unlike the old Liftmaster unit it replaced, I cannot hear the new Genie running, even though the garage is attached and separated from the house by a 2x4 wall. The real advantage of wall-mounted units is the lack of stress on the door since they turn the shaft instead of having to laterally get it started.
@FixItScotty Жыл бұрын
My main reason for the wall-mount unit is because I will be installing a 4-post lift in my garage and I want it as close to the front of the garage as possible. I just don't want anything on the ceiling hanging down more than a few inches. But if the new belt drive units are low profile, easy to install, and quiet, they may be a great option for many people as well. Thanks for the comment!

I didn't need the bottom sensors installed when I set the up and down limits. I installed the sensors after that in order to test the remotes.

Do garage door installers put in receptacles and reroute wiring? Or do I need to hire separate people? I have an overhead with receptacle near it but am looking to go with a side mount but there are no receptacles in that spot.
@FixItScotty2 ай бұрын
It may depend on the installation company, but I would imagine most would tell you to get an electrician to add a receptacle near the spring shaft before they can do the installation.

I’m having trouble setting the down limit. I also don’t see the LED transmitters on. Everything is wired right. I have no idea what the problem is.
@FixItScottyАй бұрын
If the LEDs on your sensors aren't lit up, I would think there must be an issue with the wiring. Review how I did it again starting around 12:30. Make sure the wire isn't broken (maybe it was stapled too hard). Make sure you have pushed the stripped ends into the "Safety beam" holes on the main unit like I described using the small screwdriver to lock them into the connector.

Page 4:20 How may we identify what drum we have when the drum has tapered diameter?
@FixItScottyАй бұрын
It wasn't clear to me.... I tried both the 4" drum setting and the "larger than 4" setting. It seemed to result in a subtle speed change. So if you have a tapered drum and aren't sure which of the drum setting to use; I just tried out both settings and picked the one that worked best.

Really appriciated for the this video. very helful. I have a question, is still required to have torshion spring ?
@FixItScotty7 ай бұрын
Thank you! To answer your question, yes. The torsion spring lightens the total load of the door considerably. So whether you have this type unit or a chain drive, they are not capable of lifting the full weight of the door without the spring.

That's a great question, but since I don't install garage door openers professionally, I can't answer it because I have no experience with other models and brands. Great question! And great timing. I just got the homelink in my wife's car connected to this yesterday. The instructions in Toyota's user manual were entirely incorrect. Use the homelink programming instructions from Genie and do the option to program from the opener, not from another remote. That worked for me.

What is the point of the cable keeper?
@FixItScotty Жыл бұрын
My understanding is that they keep tension on the cable which can help prevent the cable from slipping off of the drum. They can also stop the door from opening it gets too close to the rail (like if a roller came off).

Mine takes longer than 20 seconds to open or close
@FixItScotty6 ай бұрын
Mine isn't very fast either, but 20 seconds seems quite slow. I would try disengaging the door opener and try lifting the door open and closed yourself. If you struggle greatly, it could mean your spring isn't tensioned properly or there are issues in the track or rollers. Although unlikely, you could also be on the wrong drum setting on the door opener.
@borisov280643 Жыл бұрын
, Sorry, I missed that. And also sorry for my bad English. I’ve studied German all my life, but unfortunately they don’t speak it in America. And at 80 years old, learning a language is a little difficult. Let's return to Genie, from the point of view of elementary physics, it is easier for the engine to lower the door than to raise it, but it is when lowering that I hear the engine working with tension, the door trembles and only after a couple of seconds it works smoothly. If this happens to you too, then it means it’s a manufacturing defect. Yes, you can live with it, but it’s still unpleasant.
@FixItScotty Жыл бұрын
Your English is fine. I wanted to be sure I understood your problem. Yes, the motor trembles when the door is at the top because if there is a problem with the spring, the weight of the door could be too much for the motor. The door could fall suddenly in that situation. That tremble is to test the door weight to make sure it is safe to lower it. But I agree, it is very annoying to hear.
