Genie Screw Drive Limit Switch-Repair/Replace

How to replace and possibly repair the limit switch or travel limit switch on a Genie Garage Door Opener. Found on Genie Screw Drive Openers and Overhead Garage Door Openers. Same limit switch used for over 30 years on Genie Screw Drive including Pro models and Home owner models, Blue Max, Intellicode, over 20 different models dating back to the 70's.

Thanks for posting. Garage repair guy just left and quoted me $165 to replace switch. I decided to do some research since it seemed pricy and the entire garage door installed cost me $295. I am in process of ordering the switch and if successful, will gladly send you $40 for taking the time to post this. Thanks again!

After doing some research and trouble shooting, and watching your video, I decided the limit switch was my problem. Ordered a new one on eBay for $17. Fixed it in a minute and a half. Only obstacle was, the new limit switch did not come with a screw, and the old one didn’t fit, so I found a new one in my stash box of that type of stuff…and that’s it. Done ! Thank You for your video.

Thanks. I've been fighting with my Genie for 48 hours. It's a PRO82 with no force adjustment dials. It wouldn't close at all, not even a budge. Cleaning the limit switch didn't fix the problem, but repositioning the switch did the job.

My limit switch failed because the little spring inside snapped. I fashioned another out of a paper clip and it has been an expedient repair, but I am buying a replacement assembly to have onhand for when the paperclip fails

2019, directed me to my 'bad' 24454-R switch, but like the video shows, I used sandpaper and cleaned the contacts! Works great.. thank you! (where may I send a few bucks$?)

Thanks for the helpful video. Quick question, the spring on my switch broke which lead to snapping the carriage. I've cleaned the contact points on the switch and tried to manually push the metal together to complete the circuit and stop the garage, however it keeps going. Any advice on what is the issue? Could the switch be internally broken?

Is there a way to get a longer wire to extend the position of the switch? My switch works fine, but I need to move it forward about half an inch. My current wire is not long enough for me to do this.

Wait hello… my wire is hanging down. I have no idea what it be attaches to? Help! is that a live wire? I had to pull the manual cord during a power outage. The power came back in. I’m trying to Re engage the chain nmmm pull… I hear it running but it’s not pulling. There’s a wire hanging down. I don’t know where no it goes. Or what it does. It is right about the manual pull cord. Anyone help me?

Genie 404 (the Monster lives!). Garage door stopped closing correctly (wouldn't stop) so I purchased and replaced the switch. Didn't fix anything. Swapped out good switch (opening stop) at the down position and moved new switch to open stop position. Garage door opens correctly, but still won't stop at the closing stop switch. Troubleshooting 101 says I need to replace the down switch wire, but I'm asking if there's anything I should checking?

Hey my limit switch is working as far as stopping the door. But it won’t come back up? Any suggestions? It’s like the limit switch is saying no. If I loosen it and adjust it back to where the switch let’s up, the door comes right up. Then it stops too far because the switch is back too far. It’s almost like it wants to hit the limit switch then release it to come back.

+G S Overhear Systems My limit switch works, but it gets hit by the top of the door instead of the carriage, causing the door to remain open few inches from floor.. I tried moving the limit switch, but that closes the door too early or too late. Any suggestions on how to fix that?
