Why a Genie Screw Drive Garage Door Opener?

My folks are still using the Genie screw drive opener they installed in the mid-70's. Still works great, even in Wisconsin winters and a heavy 16' wood composite door.

@@GenieCompany Hello, I have a Genie Excelerator opener with a screw drive. But unlike this model at 1:10, it says to lubricant the screw drive periodically. Is there a different design with the new model?

@@charlies.5777 Hi Charles - We did have 2 different versions of the excelerator. So if you have an older version, then yes, lubrication needs done periodically.

@@GenieCompany Thanks for your help. I believe that white lithium grease is what I need to use, BUT is it OK to use a spray version on the screw OR do I need to use a different form/version of the white lithium grease!??

I have been installing doors and openers for over 22 years. The PMX 500 was the best opener, even if it was a pain to repair. The screw drive of that era was more a special missions operator. The rail was great for cut downs. The small head was awesome for nit only cut downs and with the wire connection in the front made wiring in tight spots easier. Will genie ever make a special mission screw drive? This model's head is too long for cut downs and the rail makes more work for the installer. Genie or liftmaster at least its not a linear.

My grandparents’ Genie G5000 Screw Drive from 1993 still works perfectly. I’m thinking about getting a 4064 when it dies.

How much flex is normal between the opener motor body and the rail? Mine seems to have alot despite all the screws being tight so I'm going to reinforce it with custom extension bars.

Can the Genie replace an old Chamberlain screw drive opener?

You will need to replace the entire opener, and use everything that comes with the new Genie.

If you purchase a DIY model they work up to 8ft high garage doors, If you are purchasing from a pro dealer and having them install, they can work up to 14ft high residential garage doors

Genie says they have a lifetime warrantee, but will require your receipt to honor it. Good luck with that after 15 years. Ask for the part number to replace parts? Sure, but a motor driver board will set you back $170... more than a brand new garage door opener kit. Major thumbs down to this company that pretends to stand behind their product.

Except when you slide the 2 ends in the connecting piece and they don't stay locked tight. Sliding back and forth, leaving a gap. Seems too wiggly. Will not be buying a 4th when I need my next opener, unless you all make it more stable like the T rails were. And the push connections for the wiring, if you run thicker wire for longer distance to house, holes are maxed out. And where is the video on replacing the carriage when all the wiggling eats the teeth.

Please ensure you are using the clips and collars that hold the sections of screw together prior to using the channel connectors on the rail.

Not a good product. Mine quite working after 6 months.

Mine has 15 years on it maybe. Its noisy but I have not tried anything yet to soften it up.
