My 1997 Craftsman garage door opener just went up a few days ago. Called a local company for replacement and installation... quoted me a price of $800.I went down to Lowes and picked up the Genie 750 for $200. Watching these great tutorial vids on KZbin gave me the confidence to tackle the project. I worked on it alone....it took a little while, just took one step at a time...but I'm happy to say the new Genie garage door functions beautifully and is quieter than ever. Thank you for these videos.

I also just tackled this project. I installed the 750 1 1/4 hp version and it was a chore having never done it before and being a perfectionist it took about 5 hours with having to build a stand to hold up the motor (no second hand to help) and measuring and cutting and drilling and such... it gave me a great swell of pride knowing I did it. Thanks for the video tutorial.

Thank you so much for this wonderful tutorial. I (female) was able to install this entirely on my own. The only criticism I would give is not covering the final piece of programming the door. The "click here to view the programming" video does not work. Thankfully I was able to find the video and got this piece done pretty quickly. All in all I completed the project alone in about 2.5-3 hours.

I have a Genie Excelerator since January, 2002! I am about to go to Lowes or Home Depot to purchase a new Genie. In Savannah, Georgia we are having a problem getting anyone to install the opener. H. Depot said they do not have anyone and I do not think they are stocking the doors or openers any longer. Apparently, they are going to be mail order only. Hope I can install the new one by myself! This was extremely thorough, the only thing I would have told you to do different is to explain the wiring a little better. I understand on the wall console that you could switch the wires around and it wouldn't matter and that you ended up putting them in number three and number four slots. But that's not obvious to everyone. I repair electronics and the average person would struggle with that piece, I promise you. Just a quick ,"the wires go in slots 3 and 4 and it does not matter which wire goes where" would have made a world of difference for some people.

We had a lightning strike surge that fried our garage door opener. Replaced the opener and added a single-plug surge protectors between the plug and the outlet.

Run the wires from the control console directly to the power head which is a quicker route. Don't need to run wires to the garage door, then back all the way to the power head.

Note that sometimes you can't program anything because the buttons won't necessarily reach the microswitches on the circuit board. To resolve this issue, just remove the case and push the microswitches directly. The Genie tech gave me that advise and then I could program the 7055. When I went to the Lowes site to comment on this, I noted that someone else had already commented on this issue. This could be a design/manufacturing issue. Good to know there is a work-around.

Husband and I just installed 2 Genie 7055 TPV. First one the openers don't openn the door, we can open the door through the control console, but the wall and handheld remotes don't work. We can hear a slight "click" coming from the console. We've tried relocating wires, etc. When I program the remotes, the light sequencing on the console unit flash, but the openers don't open the door. Could the board be bad? On the second unit, first time we opened the door, the turnbuckle got jammed at the console. Now the gold threaded piece on the belt is bent. Can we get another belt?

At 11:36 you say twist the two wires together and insert them into terminal point 1 on that terminal board. But it looks like you have 3 or 4 wires and are inserting them into terminal points 1&2. Which is it?

Hi Casey - The beams can be wired together, then up to the motorhead therefore you would have 2 wires, if you choose to wire both beams directly to the motor then you would have a total of 4 wires. The other terminal are for the wall button wiring.

​@@GenieCompany OP is right. Look at 11:40. It looks like whoever made the video relied on the script. Because all the wires are white they stuck them all together. It appears that what is missing in the script is to split the cables, and twist the two faintly black marked white wires together, and the other white wires that don't have a faint black marking together.

Does the bracket for the chain/belt drive have to be at the dead center of the door? My current set up has the rail about 1/2 inch right of center and I was wondering if that is what is causing my door to drift to the right. Thanks

The video mentions "never use an extension cord", but why the genie garage opener cord is so short? I never had a problem with old garage door opener's cord length. Now I just bought a genie 7705, and the cord is shorter. Genie cannot reach the power outlet forcing me to use an extension cord.

Hi - You would need to call a garage door company, for more details on your garage door. The springs carry the majority of the weight of the door, leaving the opener to assist the door in movement. Door should be properly balanced (when you open the door half way manually it shouldn't slam to the ground) Our garage door openers vary for weight on residential garage doors. The 7055 will work on residential sectional doors up to 500lbs in weight

Greetings, I cleaned sensors, bought two new different remotes, erased all memory... indoor button works fine all the time. Both new remotes must be pressed several times or it works on the first time and then not. Wires seem to be fine even when I wiggle them sensors do not flicker. How can I trouble shoot the geniue motor? Installed 2004. Thank you.

This may sound like a dumb question and I apologize, but does the turnbuckle have to go into the carriage assembly? I have everything hooked up, and the door opener runs, but it doesn't lift the door. That's the only thing I can figure, but I see nothing in the instructions (unless I'm missing something) and I see nothing in this video (again, unless I'm missing something).

Apparently you close the safety release just after you install the metal piece to the door. It must clamp onto the rubber belt at that point.

Similar but different, the 3120 has a professional C-Channel 1 piece rail assembly, this model comes with a 5 piece tube style rail assembly. Overal programming and setting of the limits would be the same.

People are you using coat hangers to disengaged the trolley, from the door, and open up your garage door when you're not around. Putting the trolley backwards, keep somebody from you using a coat hanger to disengage the trolley and open up your door. It's brilliant, that it's backwards.

The written instructions and this video are misleading on the tension of the belt. I tried two belts that broke off by tightening the belt at 1/4" above bottom of the rail. The design of the attaching rail pieces is flawed - they do not form a straight line while tightening the belt. It is impossible to hand tighten (like the video shows) to the 1/4" measurement because the connecting pieces form a curve instead of a straight line.

There are some different factors that can effect the speed of the garage door opener, for example the door weight and balance. The opening speed on this garage door opener opener is normally about 7" per second.

The MAIN thing that would raise questions is the wiring. I have old wires that worked on the old opener, but they don't match the manual or this video. When he gets to that part, he says "as shown" instead of.explaoning anything at all, and his fat fingers are directly obstructing the view.

It has been for me too difficult to get anybody from Genie to answer a phone call and to get relevant support online. Maybe I have to conclude by not looking again at something with the name Genie on it. Not simply always, it is not at my command" The support I am speaking of is related to an incomplete box of a garage opener with missing parts that prevents its installation. Have you helped in getting the missed parts? Neither Genie. I called them yesterday, pressed one to get a callback, I'm still waiting, and today, the same story, nobody picks the phone and they want for me to press 1 again.

Help. I have installed Genie 3055 as described but the door won't operate from wall console. I have checked and rechecked the wiring. My garage is prewired and had a Genie operating opener previously. I have it wired at wall Console white to W and red to BW. At unit white at Terminal 4 and Red into Terminal 3. Any suggestions.

Picture the opener installed up in the air. You have the belt/chain tightened to whatever tension you stopped at. Gravity is pulling the belt/chain down so it will sag in the middle since it's being held at the ends and the trolley should still be down by the door end. Now measure that sag and adjust until it is 1/4" above the bottom of the rail. That is how I interpret that.

This video is great for everything, BUT the wiring! Follow the installation sheet that came in the box, and you'll ge tit right the first time! The wires could be marked better, too. Stripes are barely visible. Mechanically this video is dead on!

Not sure what I did wrong. I installed it then went to program it. I pushed the button to make it close. The door begins to go down but when it is close to being shut the rail starts to bend up then the door automatically opens back up.

Easy to install garage opener, nightmare to program 2 remotes, wall keypad and garage wall opener. Remotes will only open garage door, closing is not working. Wireless key pad, opens garage, does not close the garage door. Garage wall unit tap to open, but you have to hold the button down to close. With the unit being half operational, and 4hours trying to program, I’m tempted to file a formal complaint with genie and return my product. Instructions suck, customer care is useless. Online instructions are pitiful. Oh claiming the remotes are “pre-programmed,” is an outright lie! I give this unit 1star!

Hi - This means you either did not install the safety sensors that are required for wireless devices to close the door properly, or they are not functioning correctly. For safety reasons, the safety sensors are required for the garage door opener to work properly

If the remotes open the door, but don't close the door, the remotes are programmed. As per your other comment, the wireless devices you are referencing do not close the door. This is a result of the safety beams not being installed, or not aligned after installation. This is a typical response if the required safety sensors are not instsalled.
