THANK YOU for making and posting this video. Nothing was working for me, used a hanger to clean the holes under the rim, replaced all the tank hardware and did the CLR soak, twice, nothing. It was the lower flush jet that was calcified in my case, once that was dug out, I put in the drano and let it sit in the bowl 10 minutes and it's been flushing better than it ever has since. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. Saved us $$$$$ for new toilets (2 of them doing the same thing at the same time).

I've checked plenty of sites on this subject. Yours was the best by far. Timing the flush is a simple but brilliant test of the power of the flush. Finding those holes feeding water into the toilet & cleaning them of sediment with a wire hanger absolutely worked. Thanks so much.

Really worked, instead of using the screwdriver, I used a 2 1/2 inch flat nail, after working it a little, I saw able to push it in all the way, felt like small rocks. I flushed it and a dark grey cloud puffed out and it flushed great, many thanks to you.

I can not thank you enough!!! I used CLR. I taped up the holes under the toilet bowl rim, poured CLR in the overflow. And over an hour later, (got caught up with housework and forgot all about it), WHAMO! Another 5 second test graduate! Thank you! Thank you! I’m off to tackle the other bathrooms. Thank you!

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! Our toilet had been flushing like crap (pun intended) for almost a year. Flush and the water would just swirl around 90% of the time. Even 2 squares of toilet paper and no other waste wouldn't flush. 10 minutes later with a few test flushes and the toilet flushes with lots of force and empties completely. Thank you sir for your tip! You saved me money on a new toilet and I didn't even have to leave the house.

Your English is remarkable -- much better than most of the people who post videos on here! And your explanations are very clear and thoughtful. I have watched a few videos like this, but this is the only one that even mentioned or showed the siphon hole! I never even knew it existed. Very helpful -- thank you! Did the video get cut off? It played the full 6:45, but it seemed that the ending might have been cut off.

As others here have said, you just saved me a ton of $$ not having to call a plumber! Thank you so much. I also cleaned the small rim jet holes. Watching your video was so helpful. Everything is working fine now. :-)

Use of the duct tape to block the rim holes was exactly what I needed to do to use muriatic acid effectively to thoroughly clean the rim channel and exit holes. The ability to retain the acid in the channel and the holes for 15 minutes or more allows much more calcium to be dissolved than simply allowing the acid to run unobstructed through the passages. I wish I knew of this technique twenty years ago. The results are terrific. Many thanks. Use a name brand duct tape because it holds much better and longer.

Sorry ... I'm not totally understanding. If you use duct tape to block the rim jet holes, then distilled white vinegar or muriatic acid to dissolve the scale, can that damage the porcelain finish?

What I did . . . Use a sponge and bucket to get all water out of the deep hole . . . Comet Soap Scum remover (previously, only used on the shower) - 2 applications, let each sit for 10 minutes, be sure to have fan running - this loosened some of the brown crusty stuff - I got my white plastic kitchen spoon (now in my toolbox, primarily dedicated to this task), used the non-spoon end, and was able to get more of the scaling, all the way up to the back, use other end of the spoon to get that, the plastic does not scratch like a hanger, or razor does . . . I thought the brown scaling was from the porcelain losing it's coating, but no, that is scaling from hard water, so, like with my water distiller, use 1 Tbsp of Sulfamic Acid dissolved in some water (4 cups, heat it on the stove), enough to fill the hole, that will de-scale the jet also . . . Now I have to try one of the enzyme based drain openers . . . Do not use a solution of lye in the toilet, besides bad for the wax ring, it doesn't need it, because it's a big hole - I use it on the tub drain (3 Tbsp in 3 cups of water for 30 minutes MAX), works great - be careful with lye, heating and cooling of glue in the ABS P-Trap can weaken the glue, that's the downside, only use as needed, not on a regular basis - only use enzyme based on a regular basis, if you want to do PM . . . Get a TubShroom stainless for the bathtub drain, raise up the lift bucket all the way to disable it

I could not find our siphoning hole until I tried to poke it. Which brand is your toilet without siphoning hole? Is it a very old one that take more water (not the low flush type)?

@@GeniusAsian my toilet is at least from 1960 American Standard (Robin's Egg Blue color) hangs on the wall should it have a syphon hole? My toilet has been constantly starting and stopping running and it has been flushing very very slow and clogging constantly. I have well water with high iron content. I put Iron Out in the tank a few months ago hoping that would fix the problem of constant running but it didn't affect the problem. I clean the toilet with Works Toilet Bowl Cleaner that cleans rust and calcium . What do you suggest?

When you say "this does not work", what did you mean? Did you have 12 seconds or 5 seconds? Also if it the "main" hole problem, we have another video for you: kzbin.info/www/bejne/poO0nJ6Dh5aVa6s

When I poured into overflow tube, mine only came out from the siphon and not the rim but when I flushed, water came out of the rims also.

The rim holes are not 'jet holes'. The holes are for washing waste away from the bowl sides. The bottom hole in front of the drain hole is the 'jet hole'. It needs to be cleaned of deposits to make the toilet flush well. Removing all of the water in the bowl (not the tank) and filling the bowl with vinegar or CLR or other products do not work. You have to hand scrape the deposits out. I use a 10 gauge solid copper wire to not damage the jet wall sides. Muriatic acid might work, but I will not use it due to the danger involved. I will try to make a power tool to scrape the deposits out. If it works, owners can use it to prevent dishonest plumbers from selling/installing new toilets. My 10-year-old toilet works as good as new.
@GeniusAsian
@GeniusAsian 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I find the word "jet" confusing. Instead of saying "siphon jet hole", I would rather say "siphon hole". I find "rim holes" and "rim jet" clear, but I agree the plural form of "jet holes" could be confused with the singular form of "jet hole". Another function of the rim holes, the water jets are angled in a way to create a circular direction of flow. This vortex makes for a more effective flushing action. Yes, let us know if your power tool works. Agree if you call the plumbers, not only you have to spend more money but also it may cause more of your time calling and waiting. Thanks.

Thanks this worked but my toilet doesn't have the siphon in the bottom. mine was a set of two holes at the upper front of the bowl. I stuck my finger up there and it felt like a piece of factory junk stuck one of the holes. i pushed it over and it moved out of the way. I flushed and it worked perfectly. I don't know where that junk went but I know what happened now.
