Hi Steve, good review. I´m between Genmitsu l8 vs falcon 2 pro, what machine do you recommend me to buy ?
@SteveMakesEverything2 ай бұрын
Between those two lasers, I'd would lean into the Falcon 2 Pro

No worries! Thanks for coming out. Unfortunately I drew your name for Daniel’s box and you weren’t there ☹️

@@SteveMakesEverything Yeah I saw that when I finished it later 😥 I had to take a break from the screen 🤕 Felt so bad leaving like that and was enjoying the discussion so much! Daniel is awesome and sending me something anyway 🥰🤗🙏🏼😇 Have a wonderful day!

How come you have your speed on 7000 and above? For me, anything above 300mm/sec doesn't do anything. For instance, to cut a 2mm plywood, I have to set the Speed to 8mm/sec and Power to 100%. I'm sure your setting are correct and I'm definitely missing something big here. This is my first laser cutting experience, btw.
@behnamrasooli88013 ай бұрын
I have the 20W version and I'm also using Lightburn.
@SteveMakesEverything3 ай бұрын
Well for starters, with the 40W version has quite a bit more power, so you can move a lot faster. But for cut tests on plywood, I will max out at around 800mm/m for cutting. For engraving the maximum speed is a lot higher and you should see a difference in speeds if you are engraving. For cutting plywood I would typically use 600-700mm/m (6-12mm/s) which is about the same as your settings.

Hi Steve, does your x1 rotary tool have a 4 pin wiring harness? I ordered the ikier r1 as it seemed like a really nice unit, it advertises 99.5% compatibility but the harness options are all 6 pin....Yours appeared to connect directly in....
@SteveMakesEverything6 ай бұрын
The end that plus into the stepper motor is always six pin, but the other end of the cable is typically 4 pin
@vadadofthr33576 ай бұрын
@@SteveMakesEverything odd, the two cables that came with the ikier were 6x6... ??, back to the manufacturer it went... easier than rewiring. thank you!

Steve, do you happen to know how to switch out the 20W module with the 40W module. I purchased the 20W L8 3 weeks ago and and I ordered and just now received the 40w laser module - but even though the 40w slides easily into the base unit, the laser is bigger and there is no way that the little red tightener for the 20w would fit it. Any Ideas as to how I can get it installed?
@SteveMakesEverything5 ай бұрын
I haven’t see. The 40W. Erosion of this laser but it should be a simple process to just turn the latch of the laser mount to release the module and then slide the 40w module lit and tighten the latch. Are you saying it doesn’t fit?
@drogersusa5 ай бұрын
@@SteveMakesEverything Yes, the 20w is 2 1/2" square and the 40w is closer to 3" square
@SteveMakesEverything5 ай бұрын
@@drogersusa It should still fit. There's a dovetail that the laser module slides into.
@drogersusa5 ай бұрын
@@SteveMakesEverything Steve, it slides into the "dovetail" very easily, but it is a 1/2" larger than the 20w laser - so the little lever that you use to tighten the 20w laser in place is to short for the larger 40w, leaving nothing to tighten the 40w laser in place.
@SteveMakesEverything5 ай бұрын
@@drogersusa Ah, that seems like something the company should be addressing. Have you asked them about it?

From the cut test, it seem the dot size is very large. Is it true?
@SteveMakesEverything6 ай бұрын
No, it’s comparable to other lasers. I tend to use a larger interval, which will make it look this way, but it’s faster

L8 vs Falcon 2 Pro, any strong opinion ? Thanks.
@SteveMakesEverything8 ай бұрын
I assume you are looking at the Falcon 2 Pro since it's a closer match. If you are looking at the Falcon 2 then I'd pick the L8 because it's safer. The L8 is faster, but the work area of the Falcon 2 Pro is better (I mean the bed not the size)
@ICouldCareless477 ай бұрын
I just picked up the 40w version. I have a 10w ortur, but yea I want to do alot of thicker cutting wood. and the 10w just wont do it. exelent for engraving.

@JadeHare1 1 minute ago The camera is crap, the calibration is so difficult and innacurate~
@SteveMakesEverything5 ай бұрын
Hmm, I didn’t find this camera better or worse than any other camera I’ve tested with Lightburn. LB support on its own isn’t great for accuracy, and calibration for any camera is the same. If you want deadly accurate camera output then use the Wecreat Vision, but then you are also ditching Lightburn.

I just wouldn’t go back to a diode ever !
@SteveMakesEverything9 ай бұрын
It’s not generally a case of one laser vs the other. Each type of laser is adept at certain things. You aren’t cutting 20mm wood with a CO2 laser without turning it into charcoal and you won’t cut the thinnest piece of paper with the most powerful fibre laser. There are definitely places where a diode laser is the best tool.
@CreatureCribs9 ай бұрын
@@SteveMakesEverything I agree, I just wouldn’t go back to a diode laser as it’s terribly slow also I don’t really need to cut wood at great depths, with the dot size I have different focal lens/ compounds lenses which give great or even better dot sizes.
