Louella recently rescued not one but two adult flying-foxes out of large aperture fruit netting thrown over a lime tree.
We know that things are tightening up out there when limes are on the menu but fortunately both Harry and Henrietta will be fine following time in care.
Louella has replaced the dangerous large aperture netting with wildlife safe Hailguard so no more bats will be caught in that tree.
Mr Harry is such a gentle boy and there is not a doubt in my mind that he knew we were there to help him escape his imprisonment in the netting.
Never use any netting you can poke a finger through as it is deadly to wildlife.

Yeah that bat was a smart little guy smart enough to calm down and let the gigantic alien help him. To me It seems like science fiction like as if a human got stuck and in trouble and a huge alien being appeared picked him up gently helped him and then released him... Humans can tell other humans about what happened. I don’t think bats do very well at telling stories that might get them crucified anyway.

Well, given the background, i would say it had been a little bit since they brought him in from the rescue location, so he has realized that, if we wanted to kill and eat him, he would have been dead by now. So, he would have calmed down to let the rescuers work. That, or he has been in care before, so he knows the drill.

@@sineporfa9053 actually, that is where you are wrong. creatures can always tell whether or not they really are in danger, given time. for example, snakes and lizards. they react in their defense modes if you try to hold them, but, given time, they will tend to calm down when they realize that they are not dead yet.

@@ronadpaugh44 There isn’t rabies in Australia, and this is an Australian bat species. Less than 0.1% of bats carry rabies, not every single bat on the planet does. Batusi Nights Well yes, I wasn't saying that wasn't the case, and more than likely is, but I was just speculating or actually wondering really if he could be a prior rescue and remembers. They save so many and hard to know those that are encountered again. Many intelligent animals even those considered vicious, get calm when they realize they are being assisted. I think that's instinctual. I've seen animals seek humans out and ask for help when you'd think they'd attack or run. It's quite amazing.

My god what an adorable little guy. Sometimes I'm so amazed at how many creatures we can have a trusting and understanding relationship with. It's really mind blowing when you think about it. Even bears, alligators, and crocodiles have had a human in their life they've been affectionate towards and trusting. Hell, you can even find videos of eels in the sea coming out of their hole immediately and start swirling around and playing with their human once they see them! It's incredible. Some ape swimming down and creating a freaking BOND with an eel meters below the ocean's surface... We've even got species that went down a completely different section of the evolutionary tree and they've paired so strongly with us that their entire evolution has changed with (and I still recognize because of us) over thousands of years. Dogs don't look each other in the eye at all yet they do with us. My own pit, Luna, likes to just look you in the eyes for long periods at times when you're petting her. Freaking BIRDS have bonded with some lucky humans time and time again that were completely wild until whatever circumstances led them together. It's just really positive, fascinating, and spirit building to witness the scope of human compassion. That, and understanding too. Without our ability to recognize that other beings live their own lives we wouldn't be able to understand they likely hurt too and we can ourselves in their position and know we'd want help. Sometimes I hear about the gross stuff that humans *are* capable of doing to animals, hearing what these damaged individuals inflict upon the world. But then I see stuff like this and realize that's only individuals and there's so many more out there spreading compassion and even helping the ones who were hurt and teach them we're not all bad.

@@Ruthless9o7 -- This is an unfounded opinion-- based on the relationships dogs have with strangers and dogs they're not around all the time. A study from Japan (April 2015) reveals that when dogs stare into the eyes of those they're bonded to, the activity causes the humans to release oxytocin into their bloodstream. The oxytocin levels in the urine are increased and dogs can smell this. By making those they're bonded to feel good, dogs end up feeling better. Besides this, dogs will stare into the eyes of their owners in expectation of a treat.

It's amazing how wild animals will accept help from humans, sometimes even come to humans for help. I love the YT videos showing whales holding still, while divers cut them loose from illegal drift netting or from the netting used to protect some beaches from sharks. Thanks for uploading another great people-helping-animals video. It's nice to see people doing right, like MegaBattie ❤️️❤️️❤️️❤️️

I've always disliked bats, I guess due to the fact they sleep upside down, live in caves and some suck blood, but after watching this, I think they are actually really cute. Now I feel bad for having disliked them. I'm glad you found him and were able to help.

Elsa Majority of bats don't suck blood. It's only one breed I think that does. I may be wrong but still. Alot eat fruit and some insects. Anyway they are very cute.

A lot of animals seem to have unpredictable behavior towards kindness. For example, most turtles upon just holding them still for 10-20 seconds will just go calmly limp and stop struggling, since they likely realize at that point that you aren't trying to kill them. Contrast this with foxes who can sometimes be hostile, sometimes go to humans for help and be gentle, or sometimes be paranoid to the point of running away even after being helped.

If I lived where bats and flying foxes were my entire yard would be dedicated to a pond for them, plants and trees for feeding them, housing them and no people allowed. How can anyone be so unfeeling to put nets out? No amount of firut on a tree is worth the suffering of even one animal in my mind. I am so glad you and people like you are there.
