Suranne plays Lister so compellingly, I literally am under her spell. Haven’t really seen a performance done so well in a long time. Half the time I’m barely paying attention to the show, I just can’t take my eyes off her!

absolutely phenomenal piece of television so far. the writing, acting, set design, and overarching plot are all fantastically woven together to create something far more enticing and compelling than the run-of-the-mill period piece. plus, the chemistry between suranne and sophie is truly out of this world. bravo hbo and all involved!!! keep this one coming.

Bravo the *BBC* and *Screen Yorkshire.* Fuck *HBO* constantly trying to take credit for British shows like another 12+ American companies. This is 1 of at least 9 British shows on *HBO* this year, which are actually British shows, commissioned, funded, produced, and owned by British networks, yet *HBO* is trying to take all the credit, when their only involvement was to throw a bit of money at those British networks so they can be labelled "co-producers."

This is the 5th British show at least, in 2019 alone where *HBO* have tried to claim the sole credit, even though the British networks were the ones who originally commissioned, funded, produced, first broadcast and own the shows. *HBO* like most American TV companies, usually come in as late co-producers, or as distributors only for countries outside the UK, then try to claim all the credit. 1 - *Gentleman Jack* is a *BBC* show. 2 - *His Dark Materials* is a *BBC* show. 3 - *Chernobyl* is a *Sky UK* show. 4 - *Leaving Neverland: Michael Jackson and Me* is a *Channel 4* show. 5 - *Brexit: The Uncivil War* is a *Channel 4* show. Some more upcoming British shows which *HBO* will no doubt try to take all the credit for when they air in the USA include: *The Hunt for Jihadi John* by *Channel 4.* *Years and Years* by the *BBC.* *Catherine the Great* by *Sky UK.* *The New Pope* by *Sky UK.* There's no doubt other British productions in 2019 which *HBO* will try to claim all the credit for.

They claim the credit because they financed it ,bought the rights or the BBC agreed to this for distribution. If you want to be angry then be angry at the BBC, they are the ones letting this happen because of money. They dont give a shit about the UK public, it's all about the bottom line. They are not taking credit, its business, they paid to have it first and the BBC said yes.

At first i was like “yay another Anne Lister series”, then i started 1st ep and I was like “Yara Greyjoy? Is that you? King’s Landing hasn’t been good to you at all”, then by the end, I was like “I can’t get enough of Gentleman Jack. I WANT MORE!”.

At first I was like "Yay another *West Yorkshire* series, set and filmed in *West Yorkshire,* by *Sally Wainwright* who like *Kay Mellor* who's also from *West Yorkshire,* sets and films most of her shows in *West Yorkshire".* Two years later I was like "Why did decide to start writing/filming/producing/directing *To Walk Invisible, The Detail* and *Gentleman Jack* before you had finished *Happy Valley?* Hurry up for fuck sake." Three years later I was like "Finally, now you've finished the Canadian show *The Detail*, and the two shows which are partly filmed in my city, can you get back to filming *Happy Valley* series 3 which is also partly filmed in my city?" Only one of my city's locations for the first two series of *Happy Valley* has been revealed, but apparently there's more hidden away in the show. Whatever they are, they're not the usual locations used by film and TV productions, because if they were I'd have been able to spot those locations straight away like I can with *To Walk Invisible* and *Gentleman Jack.*

I’m going to get the books this wonderful lady Transcribe from Ann Lister‘s journals. Did she really dress all in white and dance at the Queen‘s birthday party with another lady? Has anybody else read the books yet? Do they know if this is true? It just seems to go against her character trying to fit in as a social Lady of society.

On UK Soil she's such an Icon. When starting out she lost the part of Charity Dingle on the UK Soap Opera Emmerdale, played Karen McDonald on Coronation Street The UK's longest running Soap Opera that will celebrate 60 Years next year. She's like the Julianne Moore of The UK who also got her start on The Soaps playing Two Characters Frannie Hughes & Sabrina Fullerton on As The World Turns.

Poor thing, she was very pretty but she had heavy dark hair growth , almost side whiskers, by the look of her photograph. She does not have the hard look of the actress who portrays her. She was certainly smart, titled and entitled. I can't wait to read the book.

Personally I think it might be the shading? I've seen a different portrait of her. But it also might be that they just didn't paint that. There aren't any photographs of her, just paintings, which always have some artists interpretation, art style. So we'll never really know, I guess

I would say most of it is true considering there are some parts of the diaries still needing decoding and they are getting exclusive content of it as soon as it is decoded. Anne's major plot points are all true. She REALLY detailed her life.

Yes because there can only be one version of a story allowed ever . the other one was OK but tried to cram her entire life into 90 minutes and a lot of what made she interested got left out they included a lot things that don't actually happened and made the most important thing about her which that she actually married Anne Walker and their adventures together was Afterthought.

Better? Nope. This is so much more true to the history. It seems that you have a problem with more butchy lesbian characters. In The Secret Diaries of Anne Lister her character was a lot softer, a lot more conforming to the gender stereotypes - in the way she moved, reacted, was clad and looked. In this new series went so much heart and deep thought and preparation. If you'd care to watch all the interesting interviews about how this came to life, how they modelled her character and how much thought went into everything you'd see the difference. The movie was flat in comparision to this.But well, as it's only about stereotypical looks for you, no sense to argue with misogynists.
