They used the 4th wall as a way to convey her direct diary writings, as they didn't want to just show her writing in the books. So, she is talking straight from her diary to the audience. A brilliant idea. So, it's not just using the 4th wall as a "humor" thing, but a way for her to speak from the diary.

That's because she sees women as worthy of respect, as equals, not as some creature to be 'won' and conquered, then discarded after the 'act' is done... Men too often see women (esp. young, pretty women) as purely sexual objects, for their gratification (emboldened by our male-dominated society). And the more shy you are, the more aggressive they are. Horrible.

I find it amazing that she stayed true to her Christian faith--even going so far as to take communion and swear on a Bible to solemnise her marriage to Miss Ann Walker--while being a die-hard lesbian. I like people who can remain true to their faith and convictions while being gay. It actually had me thanking God that there was a positive example of a gay Christian where the person wasn't internally tortured or struggling to reconcile their faith while also holding true to their sexuality. As a gay Catholic, myself, who holds the same convictions as Miss Lister and the selfsame integration of faith and sexuality, I just feel happy and gladdened to have this identifiable role model for myself.

And people in Listers time thought that the youngsters were ruining english as well. It's been a thing since writing that older generations complained about the younger ones. Just look at language change with awe: how we can mold and make something everyone uses our own. To fit our needs, circumstances and circles. It's ingenious how many different ways we can string sounds together and still make sense. Language change is an awesome thing, and shows just how inventious we as a species are. Also about the nobody got time to draw things out: we do, but only in writing. Chat messages are way longer and so are letters. Chat messages because of ease of use, letters are we tend to use them more spareingly and put more effort into it. Quite interstign actually. Since younger people send longer text messages than older people.

Anne Lister was just too much visiting Ann Walker's Aunt, it was like she was "asking" to Court her.
