I'm firmly in the camp of "you can dress super casual if you want and not be judged". Like, if someone wants to wear sandals and cargo shorts in the summer, go for it. Maybe not to work, I love my cufflinks but still, if you're in rural PA for example, wearing a suit into walmart would look just weird. Dress for the environment. The only hard line I think I have is "no sweatpants outside the house" haha. Clip on ties are a requirement for some jobs, to make sure you can't get strangled and such.

The word “peasant” means something different than a medieval pauper to younger people. The problem is going overboard with it. A haversack, belt pouches, fishermen's vest or surveyor vest would do. Objects weigh more below your center of gravity. Another problem the more storage space a person has the more items they are never going to use are put in the storage space. I and other bushcrafters have earlier in our hobby have been guilty of this. I do have a few cargo shorts and cargo pants compared to my regular outdoor shorts and outdoor pants. When I do wear them I'm not carrying a haversack but a backpack and keep my wallet, keys, multi-tool, a Bic lighter, maps, base plate compass, pencil, and a small notebook in the cargo pocket.

On the one hand it allows people to be whoever they want and do anything they like, as in chase any career path and not hold back on fulfilling their dreams; on the other hand, it also makes people stay extremely stagnant and stop improving. I see so many people use this "be yourself" as an excuse to stay stagnant as they won't admit that they're too lazy to make a positive change in their life, and it also makes people not change or improve their social behaviour for the better, some people are very annoying and expect you to deal with it under this "be yourself" nonsense. A better saying would be: "Be the best version of yourself."

Actually i have an idea for a video: how would blue collar workers dress dapper? Usually dressing up is associated with white collar workers but how would other do it? Not the best example, but Peaky Blinders style was somewhat dapper although they were not really workers.
@edennis85783 жыл бұрын
What do you mean? Blue collar workers can't really dress in a dapper way on the job; it isn't practical. Off the job, why would it be any different for a blue collar worker as opposed to a white collar worker? As a woman married to a man who started as a blue collar worker and is now in management, you dress for the job when you're doing physical work, but dress as a gentleman when you want to off the job. My husband favored tweed blazers for every day when we were out and about. We live in a small college town, so outside of weddings and funerals, a suit looks out of place 99% of the time.

I've not seen the show, so do not know what their social status is. The fashion I have seen from the boxset stills looks typical working class. No white socks??? What do you wear with sneakers? Sneakers are not dress shoes, and while there is nothing wrong with colored socks with sneakers, it is a bit dressy for sneakers. When not at work or at an affair, I'm always in sneakers with white cotton socks. In jeans or shorts, it is the same, sneakers are among the most causal shoe you can wear. Trying to dress up sneakers is a waste of time. If you want to go dressier than teh sneaker go with a causal loafer, or deck shoe. Don't try to dress up a sneaker with dressy socks. The style looks confusing. If you are going dressy why wear sneakers? Sneakers are athletic wear. For sure, all of the hosts have really lightened up in the last few years and it’s much more enjoyable. Really enjoyed the slight outtakes and humor in Preston’s last video, and the contrast between Raphael now and even 3 years ago is stark. Keep it up gents!

Lloyd has gotten better at producing better looking shoes! I live very close to their original location and we got our wedding footwear from them. I swear they also have nice models. 😅

My brother, when he was getting into the style of clothing, he would never button the top button of his shirt. I did not like that look at all.

A button down shirt with a tie should always have the top button buttoned. Without a tie, the top button should not be buttoned; a totally buttoned button down shirt without a tie is traditionally a manual-laborer look: farmers working in the field, ditch diggers, and prisoners on a chain gang.

A vest is really not compatible for those if us who conceal carry. The vast majority carry strong-side "inside-the-waist-band" (IWB) with holster hung from the belt. With a jacket, a shoulder rig might be viable (if generally undesirable - less safe, slower presentation), except most shoulder rigs need to be anchored to the belt so the frame quickly separates from the holster. Appendix carry (AIWB) would also be blocked by the waist coat hanging over the top of the trousers. In the 20's and 30's, "vest pocket" guns were popular. Perhaps a vest could be modified to carry a micro 9, j frame, or a micro380.

Take it from a Brazilian that this country knows nothing about classic shoes. Everywhere you go you see pirate shoes meant for dressing up. Not a single traditionally worldwide classic shoe like oxfords are to be found. That’s why he talks about squared toe shoes. They’re everywhere here. They’re just plain hideous.

I think your video on skin tone is one of the most underrated out there. It helped me figure out why certain dark Colors like navy green looked kinda off on my skin while other dark ones didn’t.

These 19 rules are still good. But I agree that you could improve at some points. For some rules you end with an "it show you don't know what you're doing", which really isn't helpful. It's better to tell what the problem is, what you want to achieve and how to get it. Rule 10 about ties is a good example. For some items, like cargo shorts, I would acknowledge that they are appropriate in some situations but a stylish man changes clothing when the activity is ended. Also for some items I would agree that they can be stylish, but they aren't appropriate for classic menswear, e.g. mirrored sun glasses.

Mr Schneider I am watching lately a rerun of Hart to Hart where you see Jonathan Hart sporting nice clothes but one accessory he wears often and that is the neckerchief. I know it's not classic accessory of the 30s 40s but yet out of curiosity what do you think about it?

I'm really happy a channel like this can be self-depreciating when appropriate. It was very well-handled. I'm also really happy to see a dapper gentleman who is clearly not afraid of tiny tie-knots. It's the type I've always tied, but in recent years I was worried it made me look a little stingy. I do like the look of a larger knot, not as large as a full Windsor, but it's reassuring to see my old type was never really bad. Watches... yeah. I've thought about wearing some crazy watches because, when I was a kid, I always wanted a computer watch, ;) but attention-grabbing is risky and status symbols... well, I have to say status symbols can be so gauche! XD

Really interestinh video. I find myself surrounded with people doing almost all of these mistakes, mainly: On turkish weddings everyone "dresses up". Sadly, that means wearing way too tight trousers/suits, wearing belts with wests and wearing a 2 in 1 tie and pocketsquare. I understand people don't have the money to buy custom tailored suits or dozens of pocketsquares. But I would say it is better not to wear something (in this examples don't wear the west and pocketsquare) than to wear it wrong
